That's kind of weird. But makes sense under this scenario: Did you order like right when they put it up for pre-order? Because Apple's normal free shipping is two-day, but it's not a guaranteed service. I was going to, but got called away and didn't get back to my computer until the next day; by then my shipping method was priority overnight, a guaranteed service, which should mean ship Thursday for delivery by mid-afternoon Friday.
So it's possible the first orders taken were set up for normal 2-day free shipping when they should have gotten priority overnight as a special case for Leopard. Ergo, they can ship it today so you get it Friday. But since it's not a guaranteed transit time, they really can't, as FedEx can drop it next Monday, or Saturday at their discretion, and still fit the terms of service. Then you're mad. So Apple took the orders that accidentally got 2-day service and shipped them yesterday, figuring 3 days max transit is a safe bet -- it almost always is -- but you will almost surely get it in 2 days, and of course that's Thursday.
If I'm right, it's the benefit you get from ordering before they have all their ducks in a row! ;-)
Oh, edit: I remember this happened with people who pre-ordered Tiger in the first half day or so. They got it a day early.
I bit the bullet and cancelled the Apple UK Store order (still dowing shipping on 26th) and left my Amazon order with express delivery which is allegedly dispatching today for delivery tomorrow!
Costing me about £18 more but not the end of the world - as long as it arrives!
It's supposed to *arrive* on the 26th. My order says, "Ships by: DELIVERS ON OCTOBER 26TH" although it's slated for priority overnight, that just means they can ship it anyway they please so long as they meet their promise that it arrives on the 26th. Are you *sure* your order wasn't phrased that way. I called Apple before I ordered to see if it was going to *ship* on the 26th or *arrive* on the 26th. For the first whole day they clueless, and told me ship on the 26th, but then they finally got the memo or whatever. Plus my order has always said "DELIVERS ON OCTOBER 26TH"
