When docked, I'd like my iPhone to use the computer's audio output (built-in or desktop speakers) to recognize incoming calls, alarms or text messages.

I think it would be super helpful for people wanting to hear their phone but not in the room. Using the phone as an alarm clock (as I've done with my last 4 phones), the tone needs to be much louder or I need to have a second dock nearer to my bed.

I think the only roundabout for this is to have my speakers plugged into my iPhone, which would be great unless I want to play music on my computer.

I second this as an option.

There should be an rss reader application and you should be able to tap the bar on the top were the AT&T logo is to turn on or off wifi, Bluetooth, phone funcionlality, time and date settings, ect. Like you do on the top bar of a mac.
also in the Bluetooth you should have more options than pair or unpaid with devices. You should be able to send contacts via blutooth or text or email.

Feature request - move items in lists

Would be nice to have a way to move the stock symbols around in my stocks list. Find I commonly add, remove stocks I am tracking & I like to order them by level of interest.

Would also be nice to have a view that shows a watch-list, and my gain/(loss) in the position.

Love the iPhone, thank you Apple.

Desparately Need Upgrades

1. Ablility to create and use email folders. Just having an inbox to store email isn't going to cut it.

2. Ability to use any song in the ipod part of the phone as a ringtone.

3. Ability to send SMS to multiple people at once.

4. Ability to color code appointments in the calandar like you can in Outlook.

5. Ability to store files somewhere. PDF, word docs., spreedsheets, etc.

ALL of these are very basic functions.

Having had this for 2 days, here is my list:

1) Mail totally needs revamping. Most of my grips are with mail. Coming from a Blackberry the email function on the iphone is in the dark ages. Where to start:

a) first off, how about giving up the simple ability to use a different notification for new mail?? I RARELY hear the "new mail" alert

b) we HAVE TO HAVE A SEARCH FEATURE. Just after 2 days I have probably 100 emails. How in the world in a week or 2 when I need to track something down am I going to find it?

c) 15min is the shortest time to fetch? Absolutely unacceptable. Unless I want to sit there and constantly hit the "check for update" arrow, I rarely am getting my emails until 15min after they are sent. NOT GOOD when I get an email and the sender needs a quick reply. Email fetch HAS to be better, like every minute

d) would like the ability to save pics from emails

2) We need more sound profile option: Loud, normal, quiet, vibrate, silent. Need the ability to customize every alert sound (whatever sound we want for email, sms, etc)

3) for the love of God, allow us to browse without pictures. Just incorporate a simple "images off" option. If we want to see the pictures on a page, we can then turn images on and refresh. I would prefer to browse without images. I want to read, not look at pictures.

Thats about all I can think of now. Ok, one other thing off the top of my head is repeating alerts. This has been mentioned here but the Blackberry has a colored LED that lets you know if youve received a call, email, sms. I realize the iphone cant incorporate an actual light to do this, so repeating alerts would be a way to solve this problem. I mean if you miss the first alert without actually pulling it out and looking at it you have no way of knowing.

YES.

*Mobile iTunes Store
*SOME kind of streaming content. My Samsung SYNC can stream TV AND XM Satellite Radio clearly over EDGE. It is sickening that we cannot stream any kind of content. Heck I'd take AT&T Cellular Video.
*Do anything in landscape mode
*MMS.. Please.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1C28 Safari/419.3)

a stable version. I'm having major response issues with 1.0.2. Some part of touch screen doesn't work. Removing headset from phone while listening to music puts phone in a mode where to ringtone doesn't work until iPod program is force-quit.

Idea for Shuffle Skipping when locked

I noticed something when I was driving in my car the other day. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to skip through the tracks on your iPhone when it's locked? Without having to unlock it every single time?

Example:
I am in my car and I have the stereo output of the iPhone going into my car radio. I have to unlock the screen and click "next" every time I want to skip to the next song (shuffle mode or standard mode).

I think that the home button should act as the clicker when the headphones are not plugged in, and the screen is locked. Click once, it pauses the music. Click twice and it skips to the next track. This would also be useful if you were using headphones other than the white ear buds.

What do you all think?

Support for smart groups in Address Book. I have a very large address book with a lot of entries, both with and without phone numbers. As of now if I set up a smart group to include just those entries with phone numbers entered iTunes and the iPhone don't see that group. Even if I have iTunes set to sync the entire address book, the iPhone just doesn't see the smart group.

regarding all of these desired updates previously mentioned, can the current iphone hardware support it, as in just a new firmware will do?

if apple does want to create a second generation iphone (new hardware), what are some potential new features?

Mail should allow these features, mainly for POP accounts:
- Custom POP and SMTP port (I use custom ports on my own email servers to slow down hackers)
- POP before Send (very common authentication method)
- Different SMTP settings for Wi-Fi versus EDGE connection. My home ISP doesn't allow outgoing SMTP to an external server so I need to use theirs, but if I am on EDGE I can use my own server.
- If an email is DELETED, leave it on the POP server. If it's JUNKed, then delete it from the POP server. (That is, 2 ways to locally delete an email, one of which deletes from the server on an individual email basis)
- Times to start and stop receiving email (why waste cycles overnite)

News Flash!!! How about Flash on the iPhone

Overall, I am impressed and find value with the iPhone. I think Apple needs to add Flash Player so that we can enjoy much of what the internet has to offer.
Rather than lower pricing and sell more of the same, increasing the quality of what they have and exceeding the customer's expectations goes a lot farther than a $200 price reduction.

Sms Fwd

That is a very basic feature, I cannot believe the iPhone does not have it. I cannot forward SMS messages, AND there is no copy/paste

---Complete computer fuctionality (just needs faster processor and few hardware and software tweeks)+
---Computer functionality if they had touchscreens +
---Future computer functions

Really, the iphone is in many ways the first pocketable personal computer (not in the microsoft/ibm sense, but in a "more than a cell phone" way)

Four letters for you: UMPC

My dog is terrified of the mail alert because, I think, it reminds him of his Invisible Fence collar warning. I ended up having to turn it off completely when I'm home. Being able to change the sound would be nice.

And yes, a compete revamp of the email client. It works but it's so limited and clunky.

Actually my single most request is actually two but they are related...

1.) The ability of the camera to take photos at lower resolutions.
2.) The ability to upload the photo directly to a website.

The current solution to use email to send photos is OK but involves too many steps. A nice thing about the email method though is that it resizes the photo prior to sending it to 640x480. Thus significantly lowering the amount of time it takes to send it.

Auto-disable or auto-timeout for Airplane Warning for accessories

I'd buy a docking station / alarm clock / charger if the airplane warning could either be disabled or automatically defaulted to regular mode after xx seconds. Until this is is built in, I'll hold on to my $100 early adopter rebate.

Apple needs to implement a switch in Settings that allows the user to determine whether phone calls or EDGE takes precedence! I have already missed a few important calls and nearly embarrassed myself questioning the other party why they didn't call me when they were supposed to... (when in fact they did and left me message, which also didn't come through for some reason)
