YES! I second this. A long time ago I had a program called Salling Clicker on an old Nokia phone, and it would connect to my computer via bluetooth and I could use it as a remote for iTunes. With WiFi, all the iPhone needs to be able to do is detect iTunes sharing on a local network. I absolutely want this, especially now that my computer is far away from my stereo speakers, and it's a pain if I want to skip a song.

This might fit the bill...

I don't know if this has been posted yet cause I can't read through all of these posts but there needs to be a quicker way to access your contacts. I have about 50 people whose name starts with B in order to find the one i need i can only tap B and then scroll thru until i hit the right one. You should be able to do a spotlight search like typing in Bak to narrow the search down. This will be most helpful for those of us with 500+ contacts.

Also what's the deal with receiving and sending multimedia text messages it's a joke.

WiFi quick "on/off" switch.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am frequently turning my WiFi on and off during the day to conserve battery life. It would be nice if there were a button on the Home screen to allow you to do that in one or two steps.

agreed you should be able to customize the dock and apps on your home screen.

2. I want to be able to select a phone number on a text message and call it directly as well as forward text messages as email. This is important to me as when I'm on call at the hospital I receive my pages via text messages.

I get SMS messages with phone numbers in them and they are underlined enabling me to tap them and dial the number....

Works on my iPhone

Mail keeps connection open to server...for a while.

It seems the mail app when checking for mail will not immediately end its session with the server.

I had my iPhone set to retrieve messages every 15 minutes, but could not then use the Mail app on my MacBook Pro, or Outlook on my Windows box.

I contacted my email provider, and they only allow 1 concurrent connection. They checked and I was still connected...

The iPhone was keeping a connection for up to 10 minutes...so I only had a 5 min window to use my regular mail clients.

I submitted this to Apple via the feedback link as well...

Just FYI...

rate potential new iphones features

this thread is a great idea. perhaps if we can get enough people to rate potential new iphone features in an easy-to-evaluate quantitative fashion, apple might just listen up.

here's an attempt at a possible feature list survey

http://polls.zoho.com/jhofman/iphone-wishlist

macrumors.com seems like a great place to get people's attention and attract votes.

please vote and/or submit new features to add to the list!

I sent Apple the link to this thread a couple of weeks ago. Here's hoping someone over there took note :apple:

I read the entire thread and it's excellent! Just to reiterate some points that have been mentioned I placed them in quotes. All of my suggested improvements are at the bottom.

I am surprised you can not add/edit the contacts while you are talking on the phone. Can you atleast take notes while talking? That may be a reasonably acceptable substitute for the short term?

That would be very helpful as it would encourage people to add addresses to their contacts. You can take notes while on the phone though.

An easy one I would like is the ability to disable the delete for space pop up at the end of a movie (or only ask once only!). I have some short home movies I like to show and it is annoying to see that every time.

This is annoying.... have it ask once and let it be over.

Here's one i haven't seen yet. I'd love to have the option to have the entire interface displayed upside down. This way i could hold it with the headphone jack on the bottom, where it should have been in the first place. This could be done with the accelerometer or just as a system wide switch from inside the settings.

That's a innovative idea.

In addition to some of the great features listed in this thread, I'd really like to see the call duration of my Recents.

***I'm baffled why the iPhone doesn't have this... my Nokia N73 didn't have it as well though. Did something happen in 1999 where phones after that just stopped adding the feature?

-Recent calls should be separated like they are on every other phone: All, Dialed, Missed, Received

That would be very helpful

- Ability to select a group when creating a new contact on the iPhone. If you use groups in Address book, the iPhone will sync the groups, however, you currently can't select a group on the iPhone when creating a new contact.

- MMS support. It's really embarrassing to get that "Please log into mymessage.com" notification when receiving an MMS on a $600 phone.

GREAT POINT!!! The iPhone not supporting groups is bananas! Address Book does, why not the iPhone?

The iPhone not having MMS is absurd. I was pretty ticked off when my $634 "revolutionary" phone couldn't even display that mymessages.com pop-up correctly.

wireless printing over wifi to a networked printer would be nice.

Not a hard fix Apple. For an icon on my main screen, photos should have more options than wallpaper, next, back and play.

Unmentioned Bugs/Imperfections

1. If someone texts you from an unknown number, you have the option to add them as a new contact. If by chance you don't know the number and write, "Who is this?" back like we all do... when you find out it's Johnny Appleseed's new number, the option to add them to your contacts is gone.

2. The option to call someone from the text message menu isn't there.

3. The iPod's settings are located in the phone's main settings channel rather than in the iPod.

4. When making an On-The-Go-Playlist the iPod become a ticking time bomb where it crashes after 3 minutes into the process of creating a playlist. (simply because it's playing music)

5. iPod's coverflow has no controls for skipping forward or back.

6. Coverflow's info button (bottom right) serves no purpose since you can tap the album itself.

Those are just some suggestions, i'd love to hear feedback!

I personally think i've been staring at "Say hello to iPhone" for too long with no updates, especially after the security issue. Apple neeeeeeeds to step up and take on some of these problems... hopefully they'll get resolved soon. :)
Otherwise, I like my iPhone. I can't say I love it.... yet :D

im not sure if this was posted or not yet, im pretty sure it was but i will say it again anyway. I would like to see my spell correcting software work all the time, not just when it feels like it wants too. For example i just wrote a post before this one and it helped me to correct words as i went along. But when i started this post it didnt help me with a single word. You can tell because none of my words have appostrophies and none of my i's are capitalized. i notice that when its going to help out and correct words it will highlight the letters blue as you type, and when its not cooperating the letters and words are not highlighted. I need this feature because im not the best speller in the world and this isnt the easiest thing to type on either. I dont know how Apple could have missed this during their testing. I hope this is fixed in a software
update soon. One more thing, its not that easy to get the cursor back to where you want it to be when you have to go back and correct a word because you spealt it wrong.

Are your text messages from a Nextel user? That's the only time it happens for me.

Why should the headphone jack be on the bottom?

I agreed before because I liked the iPod nano design but now that I think about it, it's kind of silly. Once you leave the iPod you'll have to flip the entire phone.

PS, iPhone commercial is on. :)

Bug in iPod portion of iPhone

I don't know if this has been talked about yet, mostly because I am not going thru countless forums and posts. I have found an issue in the iPod portion of the iPhone. It you have 2 or more albums with the same name...(i.e. "Greatest Hits" from 2 or more artists...In my case, I have Tom Petty's and Journey's Greatest Hits). In the album view, it will combined the two albums together. This does not happen in iTunes and there is no problem with the tags in the files. The albums remain separate in Artist view. If anyone have multiple albums named the same, let me know if you have this issue as well.

2nd the suggestion about Wi-Fi only.

AT&T said they won't turn off Edge because it's a network. So Apple has to come thru and make it so the phone has a Wi-Fi only option. If phone doesn't have Wi-Fi access, no data is sent/received which would cost a fortune.

Big thanks for helpful advice, i have about 560 contacts yet.

I'm glad I went ahead and read through before I started my 2 cents into the mix. It seems I'm not alone.

I would like to say that I love my iPhone. It's the coolest.

I just wish I could post on message boards with it.

I would like to be able to print an email to a printer that uses wifi or bluefooth... That would be sweet...

Also, I'd like to see the wallpaper used more often. The home screen should have my wallpaper in the background as well as an idle screen that would show it instead of turning off the screen.

I may be wrong, but I'm not sure if it's possible because the accelerometer is only 3-axis (left, right, down).
