This is a great thread, and it will continue to grow I am sure as ideas are spread around among us early adopters (or is it too late for me, getting my iPhone in October to be called an early adopter?). I wish that there was a bit more freedom from a developer side of things with the iPhone, there are many software apps that would be very fun to have on the iPhone. As mentioned already, many times, the biggest things that I wish for is flash support, we need the ability to access the hundreds of websites online that use Flash. Also I think that it would be nice for some kind of audio player that can be used to stream online music (streaming Radioparadise.com from my iPhone would be fun or even if I could somehow get XM Radio Online through my iPhone in the future). Certainly we need more options for messaging, and we need AT&T to offer more than 200 messages on the base plan. Certainly needs to have more options when it comes to ringtones, none of them were loud enough for me, there are many times when I am out at places that I can't hear the phone go off.

The iPhone is great, and well worth my investment. We will all continue to share our thoughts and hopefully Apple is listening to some of these ideas. Now I just have to take the rest of my time to enjoy the iPhone the way it is. I still can't get over how great it is to have such an amazing web browser in the palm of my hands. I am addicted to Digg.com and most of the things I want to look at load just fine. Now if we get flash support....

bluetooth calling

I would love to see a feature where you connect the phone through bluetooth to your mac or pc and be able to call someone through iTunes and the call would go through the iphone but you could use a headset plugged into your computer so when you are sitting at your desk, you do not have to pick up the iphone. Kind of like skype.

Any thoughts?

I already posted this on another tread, but its my rare favorite:

The iPhone has my calendar, so it knows what I'm probably doing; it should be able to autoset some phone settings. Like, silence when I'm in class :D

Forgot - one more for the wishlist

I'm sorry for double posting like this, but I forgot one other feature. I would like a settings option to pick and choose what icons are displayed on my home screen. I see alot of people with hacked iPhones that have the entire screen filled up. As this may be cool to some, I kinda like the number of icons that I have now. A settings option to customize which icons are displayed would be perfect for those that like less on the home screen. In addition, it would be cool if it allowed the user to pick what icons are displayed. For me, one of the first things I would do is remove the youtube and stocks icons since I never use those. Just a thought.

I agree

At a minimum the iPhone needs to do as much as my last Blackberry. No reason it can't.

I just got an Iphone and started running 1.1 one day before I initially posted. Feel free to message me. I just starting trolling this thread for other users requests and I'm trying to incorporate them here at the bottom. Please message me if you want yours added. If I haven't added it, I'm probably just too busy atm.

My list (will keep editing)
-Get Epocrates. Until Apple gets Epocrates, doctors and medical students will not get the Iphone in high numbers. It is a drug/pharm software that every doctor has on their PDA. See it at www.Epocrates.com . I'm sure other professions have must-have 3rd party apps that must run natively before they will use the Iphone at work.

-Stedman's Medical Dictionary (or another medical dictionary). There should be access to an offline medical dictionary. There should be an offline main dictionary too.

-More medical suggestions to come. Find the palm/pda software that most medical students use and incorporate those in to the Iphone in some shape or form. We cannot rely on the internet for information. We need it asap without waiting for connections.

-Wi-Fi signal strength is buggy. The only time I have 100% confidence in my wifi signal strength on the Iphone is before I select the network (before the network is checked). After I select, it inappropriately goes to 100% signal strength. Then, other times, it will also say I signal when I don't.

-Wi-Fi connection is buggy. I often lose wi-fi after not using it for a while. The only way to re-establish wifi for me is to turn off the wifi and then turn it back on again. Renewing Lease doesn't really do it.

-Better google calendar support. I don't want to have to go to google's online mobile calendar, I would like it more integrated into the Iphone itself.

-SMS text forwarding. This is standard feature on all SIM phones these days. It's crazy you can't do it on an Iphone.

-Send SMS text messages to multiple people. If you need to text multiple coworkers at once to say something... well, come one apple.

-A way to import old (memorable) text messages from your old phone. Only the Syphone software allows you to archive your Iphone text messages. However, apple could easily make the syncing process work for SMS messages too. But more importantly, I want to be able to convert my old memorable SMS messages in to the new Iphone format so that I can carry them with me at all times.

-Be able to delete one individual message from a sms text conversation without having to clear the whole conversation.

-A way to cancel an accidentally sent, unfinished text message. Someone mentioned this previously and I couldn't agree more.

-Video Recorder. A software update could do this, right?

-Can only edit a phone number from your contact list. Please add option to edit contact information directly from favorites via arrow or recent calls via arrow. It's just frustrating. I want to be able to have full contact edit ability without having to re-find the same name in my contacts when it is conveniently listed in my recent calls or favorites.

-Option to See the time that every sms text is both Sent and Received. I only see the time-stamp inserted when there is a period of inactivity. I can't find any SMS text message settings in General settings to see if having the timestamp every time is even an option. More SMS text settings please!

-Make the instant scroll to top for a text message conversation too. You know the feature on safari on iphone where you can click the top and it instantly scrolls up? That would be very nice for text message convos.

-Native App that is a unit converter.

-Native metronome / tuner. (it a musician thing)

Compiling quasi mini-master list from various other posts: (work in progress)
Cut, Copy, Paste.
Character counting on text message. Need to know when we are sending 1, 2, or 3+ text messages per send.
Lock individual apps. Point taken - if you let your friend dial or check out your phone, you don't want s/he to have access to last night's pictures.
Wireless printing of web pages
Option to use the iphone as a digital clock while charging / Option to chose whether it sleeps or not while charging.

List of things rumored to change in next update:
Notes Syncing. I read somewhere that this was coming, please help me find the reference.

Misc List:

Need to research to see if already possible.
Viewing documnts on iphone. I read an old tuaw.com saying it was possible but I haven't explored this part of the iphone yet.

Repeat notifications on missed SMS / Voicemail. I do seem to "miss" more texts and calls on my Iphone than my previous, but I would say I'm just not used to it yet. In general more settings options would be great, eh?

Rearrange icons on home screen. - I'm sure the unlocked Iphones can do this, but I haven't experimented.

Things apple has updated.
Double space makes a period now.
Some volume issue. (still my stock headset seems plenty loud on ipod, but quiet on calls.)

unlocked

Apple could have changed the US cellphone market but didn't.
Old Apple out and new Apple in
Unlock and Apple sells more iPhones = more money

Fanbois unite

Copy/Paste, Video recording, wireless printing of web pages, more use of multi-touch (not just zooming, perhaps twisting fingers to rotate objects?)

it would be nice if there was an option to use the iphone as a digital clock while charging. Turn it to landscape mode and voila the iClock. Also while the phone is charging you should be able to choose if you want it to sleep or not, i think it's pretty annoying that the phone automatically sleeps while charging (unlike all other ipods).

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I'll do just in case.
Autocomplete for addresses when composing a new mail message WITHOUT having to click on the + sign next to it. If I type g I should see everyone's name which starts with g, as well as email addresses and so on.

DICTIONARY & THESAURUS, PLEASE! I know this isn't used as a tool to type your next school term paper, but it'd be useful to have.

Safari needs the ability to have a home page.

iChat.

Can't really think of any more right now, I guess I should be compiling a list.

freezing

I have a problem in v1.1.1 Safari and iPod apps will freeze and quit it gets really annoying after a while

Anybody else have this problem

:apple:cheers:apple:

Cut, Copy & Paste

My Apple Feedback:

Need the ability to cut copy and paste text. It is a pain having to repeat information on web forms and other iPhone applications. Maybe you could consider implementing a popup menu that appears when you hold your finger on an input area. You could then have an option to put the current input into selection mode which would then allow you to select text by dragging your finger over it and when you take you finger off a menu appears with Cut, Copy & Paste options.

Emails should download not stay dynamic

One of the most frustrating things is I'll read an email, then go back to it (even when it's still on my server) and it is no longer readable. This seems ot be because the phone downloads each message each time you try to read it, even if it downladed it before. This wastes time (particularly on Edge), and more important, it means I have to wait to download mail into my computer until I've fully exhausted any views I may want on the phone.

With my Treo, I'd download to the phone, then download to my computer, and the messages could be read in either place. Not so with iPhone.

Apple needs to wake up and realize that most people will not be using WIFI to retrieve emails. With Edge, they need to download it only once.

Smileys, Keychain Access…

Some features I could really do with:

• Emoticons for SMS messages :)
• Keychain Access for website accounts
• Ability to log outgoing & incoming call usage separately
• Ability to log SMS usage
• Archive SMS sessions
• Store downloaded emails offline.
• Cut and Paste

Edit: Using IMAP allows emails to be stored on the iPhone. However, images in HTML emails still seem to download each time you view them.

hi just a few early requirements from a noob.

Able to switch off phone and have alarm wake iphone (and me), all my old phones did this but have to keep the iphone on to use the alarm.

Able to change the internet start page (maybe you can already but i cant find it).

Able to download stuff off net (docs etc) by hitting links.

being able to browse the files i downloaded in net and maybe put them in iphoto on phone or even download video straight to itunes and pictures to my iphoto library.

maybe some of these things you can already do but i dont know how.

My only real gripe is with SMS messages.

I want the ability to send to more than 1 person & I also want to be able to forward a message to another sender.

Anyone have the email address for someone at apple that we can suggest all the above too??

I'm glad you can't forward SMS messages, the more people with iPhones the less of those "you've been hugged pass it on" craps we get =]

I would like IM client to be included. Particularly one that can access MSN Messenger.

I would not like 3G - yeah!. its just a battery drain. EDGE is fine for me.

I would like apple to Open OS to opensource community (when hell freezes over) or at least to commercial community so we can have a handango range.

Stereo bluetooth please!

I am not being negative, I think the device is mostly perfect.

push mail.

as someone who is currently married to their blackberry and instant email, switching to the iphone would be impossible for me. and, i really really want one.

i heard a rumor that push mail or something like email exchange blackberry does is coming in january. but, regardless, for serious business users instant mail is critical.

m8, there is no difference in practice between imap and push mail as they are both syncing systems. its just that bbmail can sync from both ends. The iphone syncs so often (and sends straight away) that I don't notice any difference from my old BB 8800. iphone is actually better as i see my yahoo folders on it, which BB can't do.

i would like two things to be added:

1. the system should also go landscape for sms and email as i like the bigger keyboard.

2. there should be someway of prevent swivvel from portrait to landscape when looking at pictures. sometimes I take pictures vertically. Its impossible to see them full screen on the iphone without looking sideways while holding horizontally
