still got a long way to go...

1. apple needs to make the motions for the iphone more consistant. i think that dragging your finger across the screen (like in photos, switching web pages, and coverflow among other things) should change the month-to -month in ical. also, "double clicking" should zoom in maps the same way it does on the internet. little things liek that are starting to get annoying because each program requires its own little finger dances.
2. ringtones. duh.
3. ichat
4. flash
5. i think there should be a "Remember password" option for websites, especially since its tedious to have to log in all the time using EDGE
6. everything needs to be a lot LOUDER
7. options of adjusting sounds for SMS and email
8. when i recieve an email, id like to instantly recieve it on my iphone, and i dont think it should load for ten minutes before i can read it.
9. camera zoom would be nice
10. the popup that shows new text messages shouldnt read the text message. i dont like it that when other people are looking at my phone they see the texts i get before I do
11. picture messaging
12. better ways for deleting email, sms, etc..

there are definately more but i cant think of them right now. the iphone is amazing, but far from perfect for sure.

I don't know if this has been talked about yet, mostly because I am not going thru countless forums and posts. I have found an issue in the iPod portion of the iPhone. It you have 2 or more albums with the same name...(i.e. "Greatest Hits" from 2 or more artists...In my case, I have Tom Petty's and Journey's Greatest Hits). In the album view, it will combined the two albums together. This does not happen in iTunes and there is no problem with the tags in the files. The albums remain separate in Artist view. If anyone have multiple albums named the same, let me know if you have this issue as well.

yeah, i get that too. definately should be fixed.

Calander update PLEASE!!!!

CALENDAR: Categories with assignable colors visible in month view as well as AM/PM identifier

This is all I want! (this and copy/paste) and I'm good!

There should be a landscape mode for every app for which it makes sense. Both viewing area and keyboard. Email should be number one on the "needs landscape mode" list.

Totally agree with this. Along with the lack of cut/copy/paste, that's my biggest complaint. Typing is SO much more accurate for me in landscape mode, it's a shame they limited it to Safari. Yeah, the autocorrect thing works decently for typing dictionary text, but if you use a lot of acronyms, technical terms, abbreviations, proper names, nicknames, etc. as most of us do nowadays, it just doesn't work very well and in fact gets in the way. The increased accuracy of the landscape mode keyboard makes that much less of an issue.

Landscape mode keyboard in SMS Text PLEASE

I AGREE...Im pretty big on Text messaging, and while after a little practice, using the keyboard isnt so bad but still way easier in landscape mode to use two hands like when typing out a web address in safari. So far thats what i would be most excited about if they fixed!!!....so far loving my new iPhone though:)

Obviously, people have come up with a ton of really great ideas here. But one I haven't seen much about that I think could be really useful - an ebook reader. Apple is going for the multi-function thing, so this would be another function they could talk about, but also, how great would it be to have a book or two in your pocket without having to carry around a paperback? And iTunes could probably make a bunch of money selling ebooks, too.

While talking on iPhone can't enter contacts

This is a basic feature of most phones
While talking on iPhone can't add or edit contacts, this needs to be fixed. . .

Now that I've been using the iPhone for a week I've come to a conclusion... notifications suck, especially for text messages. When you get a text message it makes a tone you can hardly ever hear if the phone is in your pocket and vibrates once. The tone needs to be louder (as loud as the ringer [I can always hear that]) and it needs to give a tone / vibrate every so often after that. Same with missed calls.

Also the email app needs a way to mark all as read, rules, and smart mailboxes.

SMS needs pictures.

And there needs to be copy and paste (tap-tap-drag to select, drag the selected text up to a clipboard icon on the menu bar, and dragging the text from the clipboard to a filed to paste), especially if they don't implement MMS because those usernames and passwords are a pain.

Here are my opinions on possible improvements:

-iChat
-MMS
-You should have the ability to open a link to a new page on Safari... it wouldn't be too hard either. If you hold your finger on a link, a pop-up comes up with the whole link address... you should get a pop-up menu with something like (Open in new page, Copy Link, Share...)
-There should be a certain amount of the 8G that you could access to carry files on the phone. It just seems silly to me that you can do this on a iPod but not the iPhone.
-Its also silly that the only way to get a song on the phone is through a playlist.
-Landscape keyboard option for email + SMS
-Flash! <DUH!>
-You can set multiple categories on iCal that are colorcoded... why aren't they color coded on the iPhone?

Finally... this phone is a setting away from a hands free kit. You should have the ability to choose this option. When I dock my phone to my car, I set it on my passenger seat or a cup holder... why can't I just have the speakerphone play on the car speakers?

In regards to the text message pop-ups... I personally like it. I like that I can look at the message without touching a button on the phone.

All in all, I feel this piece of technology is so close to perfection in my book... the difference is in the tiny details.

When using my iPhone as a jukebox in my car, I can only answer calls by unplugging the auxiliary cable. With the cable plugged, the call does not play over the speakers and I cannot speak into the phone.

Configure the phone to detect when I am not using the included iPhone earbuds and allow calls to be taken properly without unplugging anything (incoming sound through headphones/car speakers, outgoing sound through mic on the bottom of phone).

Have you updated your software to 1.0.1? I was just doing that with headphones 20 minutes ago...

My List

1. Flash
2. Video capture
3. Landscape mail & text
4. Time delay when touching embedded links to avoid activating when scrolling on web pages. (I now have found that scrolling with two fingers corrects this problem.)
5. ebooks
6. Mini word processor (Apples Text Edit would be fine) with a USB printer driver for use with small ink jets.
7. Voice dialing
General comments:
1. Edge, while slow, is acceptable for me.
2. Being retired, I did not think I would have any real need for an iPhone, but I got one anyway. I have since found that it is really useful. When I travel, I leave my notebook home. When I go out for breakfast (alone) it gives me a way to keep up with the news, etc.. That is one reason I would really appreciate having ebooks available.
3. I like it.

Downloadable software apps

We all know that this device runs Mac OS, or a full UNIX operating system, so where are the downloadable apps.

I cannot understand why Apple of all companies would not allow installations of some sort of "supported applications" onto its iPhone. Can't they offer a system through iTunes, something like download.com which allows you to download "approved" and tested applications for installation on the iPhone? Thereby leveraging the developer community, and offering people the ability to drastically expand the usefullness of their iPhone. Buying new apps, and downloading free ones?

I understand they don't want the headaches of support for trying to resolve complications caused by poorly designed software, but they ought to be able to offer some sort of safe protected environment within the OS that allows people to develop simple apps that can interact with everythng on the phone. Similar, but safer than the Treo.

Another option is to allow both, "approved" and unapproved apps. Approved apps are cleared by Apple for use on the phone, and unapproved apps, would be wiped clean as step 1 in a tech support call.

What is going to happen now, is that people will be looking to the hacking community to offer them applications for install. And who knows what trojans might be included in those apps.

This is something that could be remedied VERY quickly, and that should be remedied. How can they offer a product like iPhone without games (even the iPod had games)? Come on Apple, this isn't your style, get with the program. Its like offering an iPod that won't play mp3s. Steve, PLEASE PLEASE show us you understand our pain.

iTunes

iTunes on iPhone so I on the road I can grab my daily podcasts w/o dragging the MB along and looking for a hotspot on every roadtrip.

Updates

1. Mail accts should flash a preview when mail arrive just like SMS does. (i'm tired of not knowing a message came in)

2. An area on screen should allow you to go back to your ipod at any time. (i hate having to press home, then ipod to get back to my ipod) The upper right blue play button should bring you back to the music player.

3. Give option to press home button to unlock your iphone. (having to slide to unlock after pressing home button is really a nuisance sometimes)

4. Start the music status bar automatically when you play a song. (i think its backwards right now, having to press the screen to get rewind and fast forward options)

5. Leave rewind, fast forward (etc) functions open when you play music in landscape mode. (so what if it's sideways, i should still be able to fast forward and rewind and skip songs)

6. Right and left arrown indicating each call as inbound and outbound in the Recent section of the phone. (this sucks not knowing if you called them or if they called you, doesn't it?)

I am sure this has been posted already, but I got weary of looking through all the pages:

PLEASE make this thing A2DP compatible so I can use a bluetooth wireless headset (like the MotoRokr S9) to listen to my music. Otherwise, fricking develop an Apple version that allows for a stereo headset bluetooth method instead of the single ear kind!

Ringtones would also be so easy. Absolutely can't believe that htis thing couldn't be worked out between Apple and AT&T!!!!!!!

I'll bet you money this comes out in a software update for the iPhone along with leopard's release (since leopard FINALLY supports A2DP.. Tiger does NOT), along with an apple branded stereo bluetooth headset.
