I love my iPhone was just what it does.....I don't want/need other functionality to make it more buggy, unstable, slow, etc. etc, which seems to plague every other "do-all" gadget. KISS, keep it simple stupid. That being said, I would like one tiny feature added, maybe an itunes pop-up when your iPhone is connected to your computer and you get a phone call, so I don't miss calls when my music is blasting and I can't hear my ringer!

Just purchased an Iphone today

Just purchased an iphone 8gb today, activated with no problems, and running like a charm. I have made the switch and replacing my Windows Mobile phone with my new iphone. Made a few calls, sounds pretty good, no drop calls yet. Screen is awesome, very clear, touch feature is very accurate, and phone loads programs very fast. This is truely the best phone out there right now. I really like it!!!

I have a few questions that I'd like to ask, since I am a newbie. Hopefully some of you iphone pros can help me.

1) How can I install new programs on my iphone? There are a lot of programs that I had on my Windows Mobile phone that I would like to transfer to my iphone. These programs include games, music player, and my Geovision Surveillance Software that allows me to monitor my surveillance cameras live on my phone (this is a must have).

2) I purchased a very expensive stereo Bluetooth Headset that I have been using. It works really well with my old PPC phone. How can I use this with my new iphone?

3) I have two 8gb MicroSD Memory cards that I can switch back and forth with lots of information including MP3s, videos, and movies. I could not find anywhere on the iphone to insert the memory cards. Also, why can't any of my videos play on the iphone? They are all converted to wmv mobile files already. I have 100s of gigs on my computer, I hope I don't have to reconvert them.

4) The camera on the iphone is really nice. I have taken a few pictures and some of them came out blurry, but some also came out really nice. But my questions is, how can I record video? I could not find that feature anywhere. Am I missing something?

5) How do I set up voice dialing? My old Windows PPC Phone had the option to say a command into the bluetooth headset to call someone without having to touch the phone. Does iphone have this feature?

6) And my last questions for now... How can I change the battery on my iphone? I would like to purchase an extra battery because sometimes, I don't have time to sit and wait for the phone to charge. I would just like to replace the battery and go.

These are my questions for now. Since I just purchased my iphone, I didn't have time to fully expremint with it yet. I'm sure I'll have some more questions later. Thanks in advance for helping me out.

1) Not yet you have to wait till the SDK is released. Then you will have to wait till the program makers actually convert the programs.
2) AFAIK bluetooth headsets (the music portion) don't work with the iPhone.
3) You will have to convert all your WMV's to MP4's. There is no SD card expansion slot on the iPhone.
4) No video recording yet.
5) No Voice Dialing yet.
6) No (easily) user replaceable batteries (yet).

The one capability that I think would really add a lot to the iPhone is the ability to upload a photo to a website. For the life of me I don't understand why that feature has been left off.

Safari on the desktop has it as well as all of the popular Internet browsers and many old fashioned cell phones. My HTC 3125 (I think) has it and it was nice to be able to upload a photo while on vacation or at one of my kids games.

I know you can email a photo to a photo sharing website and try to reference it that way but it is a very awkward way to get something posted on a web site.

I still wait for:
1)copy & paste
2)send contact to another phone (vcard maybe?)
3)multimedia messages
4)notes sync
5)less cluttered gmail support

We'll see

Seems like you didn't do your homework on the ipHone before dropping some green on it. A lot of your questions have to do with features that have been the Achilles Heel of the iPhone so far. Check out the other iPhone forums...you'll find that many users are in the same boat as you, wishing and hoping that future upgrades will bring "2008-features" to the iPhone.

I would love to see SmartGroups from address book supported. Currently I have groups set up and sync but they are just duplicates of my Smart Groups. Seems it would be a simple enough fix. Hopefully Apple will update this in the future. :D

I want an update that doesn't change the battery life, each update i cringe wondering if I will have better battery life or worse. And so far, i usually end up with the lower battery life. It's just frustrating knowing that the 20% and 10% battery warning midway through my day is a simple software fix, and has nothing to do with the actual battery.

I'd like the Airplane mode to switch betwwen on and off as you go in and out of planes, or if the airplane crashes.

Okay, I'm not reading every single one of these posts, so if someone already suggested this, I apologize.

Although Favorites are nice, especially with the Double-Tap Home Button feature, there still not speed dials.

Why not make Speed Dial-like webclips? You can add a specific contact to the home screen, so you can just click that bubble right there and call them. I think that would be nice.

I like that idea.

Perhaps one could check a box in the Contacts screen to "Add Contact to Home Screen". The contact's picture would appear as an icon on the Home Screen and tapping once would call them, double tapping (or tap and holding) their icon would bring up a SMS box.

It's not too much to ask, right? ;)
No wonder Apple users get a reputation hehe

I'm glad that we keep pressing Apple. A lot of the features you listed have been (or will be with Version 2.0), addressed. Let's keep pushing.

Still waiting for Copy and Paste. Here's a pretty humorous video, hopefully it hasn't been posted yet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nchuidJ_CYw

On these forums... EVERYTHING has been posted ;) I love that video, though.

All I really want right now is a dedicated iChat app; not a web-app that disconnects itself from the AIM network and occasionally doesn't send incoming IMs properly. I'm assuming I'll probably have to wait until June, though :/

Support for headphones (not having to buy an adapter) would also be nice.

Along those lines. A tape-cassette that fits the iPhone, headphones meant for running that include the click/double click mouth piece that fit the iphone, or a fm transmitter.

That's exactly how I picture it. I put in the suggestion with Apple when they released 1.1.3 with web-clips. Let's hope they bite. I guess if you're reading this and a proponent to the idea, click the following link and suggest it also, the more they see that people want it, the more likely they are to add it.

Suggest to Apple!
Make sure to change feedback reason to "Enhancement Request."

missing stuff

I have to say I was caught with my unawares showing. I am shocked at the missing applications and features on the iphone. I like it but its almost a pretty toy. I've switched from palm based pda's m515; t3; to dell axim x51v to the latest windows based treo (bought in june of 07) 750. I bought my first apple for thanksgiven and havent looked back until now. Apple seems to make it a point to be non-compatible. Here is my take on whats needed for the iphone to be considered as a real workhorse and not just a toy. I still cant believe some of the stuff they left out and I'm sorry for repeating previous entries but they must be included.
1 Iwork and/or other office compatible suites (iwork should have been a given)
2 Some type of file storage/management app for docs, spreadsheets powerpoint etc.
3 MMS capability
4 ereader app (ereader claims to be working on that)
5 better laridian ebible program the web based annual fee app is a trip
6 e-wallet program for imac and iphone
7 gps apps
8 drop down menus/finder/spotlight
9 voice activating calls
10 a way to see the number of the contact you are using when texting ( if the contact has several numbers listed and u choose them u may be using a landline or email address.
11 still not sure but I could not open or read an attachment in email( no where to store files or attachments)
12 this think with the earplug jack is just ridiculous my sure ec4's don't fit I have to buy a bulky adapter plug (for what? so im forced to use the apple plugs)
13 copy and past
14 one handed operation somewhat difficult.
15 keyboard hard to use numerous errors due to softtouch technology (cant think of anyway around this one)
The 16gb Iphone is a great unit but needs some serious applications for real work. I puchased my last three pda/smartphones to get an all in one unit but sofar the treo is the only one coming close. I didnt like the treo for its entertainment suites windows media pocket music etc, so I had an ipod to go along. Now I have a great entertainer but I have to carry either my treo or my axim for work and serious applications.

Voicemail Idea

Hey, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this idea yet. Wouldn't it be great if you could create and save multiple voicemail messages, instead of just having default and only one custom message. Let me know it anyone thinks this would be useful as well. It would be such an easy way to let people know if your in class, in a meeting, at church, at the movies, on vacation, whatever!

I never thought of that before, and I know I could get a lot of use out of that, good idea!!!!!

.com button

When you hold the .com button you should be able to choose from other suffixes like .net, .edu, .org, .gov, .us, .mil, .name, and .biz. (At least the first 3)

The .com button already allows for multiple selections, like mentioned above, for international suffixes:

I thought of that a long time ago (not saying anything against poster).

In fact I would like to settings in the Contacts window to customize not only ringtones, but voicemail messages, IM (or SMS?) away messages, and ringback tones.

After using my iPhone for about a month, I would really love to have the data detector feature that is in Leopard to be incorporated into the iPhone software. It make scheduling things quicker and easier.
