There are a lot of somewhat exotic desires here. My hope is more basic; actual cell reception away from urban centers.

I promise to worry about iChat when I can actually make a call.

I would like:
To be able to open links in new windows.

To save email add in emails to cantacts without sending the mail to do it.

Ok, I wasn't about to read the 16 pages before this post to see if my idea has already been posted, so here goes:

It would be cool if there was a Wallpaper option that would use the album covers or your photos on your iPhone, so that whenever you turned your iPhone on, the wallpaper would be a randomly selected photo or album cover.

Yeah!

Yeah!

It would be cool if it randomly selected photos, maybe even from a certain album, then you could make a "Wallpaper Album", that would be cool!

Not sure about album covers though, I deleted most of mine because I hate them, I want to see album art less if anything!

Why do you hate album covers? What did they ever do to you?;) I guess no coverflow for you.....

Because most of them are just rubbish, dont like 'em, I only like very very few...

Cover Flow looks cool but, yeah, useless if you hate most album art :D

iPhoto Events

Sorry, please remove or ignore this. I didn't realize I could select Events or Albums in sync. (puts on Dunce hat)

forward text messages would be helpful!

save items received in emails to iphoto or wherever to view later with more ease.

switch off/on wifi from homepage (sure this will be an app to buy).

be able to make alerts for dates in contacts with a notification (birthday today for such and such etc).

1. Cut & paste (yes, again)
2. Always have landscape keyboard ability (just like it does now when you go to a web-based MS exchange site – just do it before it opens the site)
3. Sort photos in chronological order upon sync
4. If alarm is set, continue to play until it is physically turned off
5. Stop asking me to auto join networks, just try it (if I know the pwd, I would have entered it)
6. Don’t recess the ear phone jack
7. Permit custom keyboard shortcuts (like BB)
8. Work with Nike+, as kids want my Nano
9. Support flash
10. Customize colors/styles on home
11. Display the actual current temperature on the home page weather icon, based on my current location (it’s not always 73 & sunny)
12. Display the actual local stock market graph on the home page stock icon, based on my current conditions
13. Display the actual local time on the home page clock icon, based on my time zone
14. video chat (so a video camera on the front side)
15. video ability and camera zoom ability on the back camera
16. ok, this is too easy, but I have to stop & say I do really enjoy my iPhone

One of the most useful features would be the ability to set ringtone volumes at a consistent loudness instead of having it default to the current iPhones settings.

many time I lower my iPod volume to not offend others in my office, but by lowering the volume I miss many phone calls especially if you use custom ringtones from songs with lower intros...

Wow, 24 hours turn-around! Thanks Nike for getting my #8 request done so fast (2 post above). Now, just a few more to go...

Add to actual reception away from urban areas:

Voice activated calling so I don't have to buy expensive bluetooth devices, harnesses, crawl under my dash with tools, etc. And to be actually legal to use my iPhone in a car in California. ???

GPS. Could be optional. Off-road topographic on phone for hiking, hook-up with bigger screen for cars.

As far as peripheral compatibility, I would love to see the iPhone work with the iPod radio remote.

As the iPhone is a touch-screen product, a remote would be very useful, and having access to the radio would be nice bonus.

On the "unlock" screen i'd like to see the current weather and upcomming appointments. this way with the tap of only 1 button you'd quickly get all the info you need at 1 glance.

Thats what Windows Mobile does... You dont want it to turn in to the MiPhone, do you? :D

definetly don't want what doesn't work on windows mobile put on the iPhone - but wouldn't mind some of the things that do work. They already have the date, time and missed calls on the unlock screen - why not put a couple of other things on it - there is a ton of waisted space on that screen.

I may have missed some as I quickly scanned the 16 or so pages.

CS123456 had some good ones that I'll repeat here followed by some of my own below.
1. Cut & paste (yes, again)
2. Always have landscape keyboard ability (just like it does now when you go to a web-based MS exchange site – just do it before it opens the site)
3. If alarm is set, continue to play until it is physically turned off

10. video chat (so a video camera on the front side)
11. video ability and camera zoom ability on the back camera

Some of my own:
12. Offer choice of smaller font sizes for list views (Contacts, Email, etc.) so we can have more info on the screen.
13. Shutter speed on camera is quite slow and pictures taken from a moving position (in a car) always distort the pictures
14. Add 5MP camera since I believe the 3G chip supports the capability
15. In addition to Flash, add support for Microsoft SilverLight

I already think the iPhone is an amazing device. No doubt as time goes by and we get the new 3G units, firmware releases will offer many of these improved capabilities in the days to come. Meanwhile I'm loving this incredible internet applicance with a built-in phone!

how about the ability to create playlists within the iPhone and not just an on the go playlist. It would be very easy to be able to name it and rearrange the songs within it.

That way a user doesnt have to sync through iTunes every time they want to have a different or new playlist

The iPhone is the Emperor’s New Clothes

First off, I really want to love the iPhone, but I can't. I received it on April 5, and today is April 24, and I hate it more than the Treo 650 and 700’s I’ve dealt with over the past three years.

The iPhone is a poorly designed, incredibly buggy device that technologically is a major failure on many fronts. The hardware and software DO NOT LIVE up to the hype. I always wait at least a year or more to purchase new products from Apple, but with the iPhone I should have waited three or more years.

From the lack of tactile keys that is supposed to be the best interface ever designed for a smart phone, yet results in 40% keystroke entry mistakes to the distortion that the iPhone feeds out to every audio and video device on the planet, it’s the worst communications device I have ever experienced.

The iPhone distorts my computer screen, the car audio system to all loudspeakers, either active or passive, including high-end shielded near-field studio monitors, from my Apple iSticks on my computer, high-end surround sound stereo system in my living room to the frigging clock radio.

The static this iPhone kicks out to loudspeakers in my home is HOUSE WIDE, and I am in a 1400 square foot home. If the iPhone is on my kitchen table 15 feet away from my livingroom stereo system, I will still have iPhone distortion come out through the loudspeakers HOUSE WIDE. This is supposed to be an audiophile device and all it does is dump static onto every loudspeaker I stand next to, in every environment.

I have a CRT monitor and I know I am going to get an SMS, email or phone call to the iPhone, because several seconds before the message is received, the entire 17-inch computer screen distorts for as long as 5 seconds, throwing it completely out of focus.

Why the heck does this iPhone not have a pop-up keyboard find function in the database? I have 6300 names in my contact database and it can take 90-seconds or more to find a name through scrolling!

Why doesn’t the iPhone have the same pop-up keyboard feature as in the SMS or Safari function so I can start typing a name and have the contact app bring up the name as I type the letters, as similar to the contact find feature on the Treo? C'mon - how the heck do you not have that common-sense feature? What about a voice find feature OR VOICE ACTIVATED DIALING for the contact database?

Now this really makes me nuts - Safari goes buggy every five days, it crashes more and more frequently and then I need to reset the phone and then I loose all my presets! This is the worst part of the phone. Additionally, regardless web searching is PAINFULLY SLOW! Five minutes to bring up www.huffingtonpost.com or www.rawstory.com, only to have it crash when I try to enlarge an article… argh.

Why on earth does it take SMS up to 10 or more seconds to start and present my message string? Ten seconds for this app to start - gimme a break!

No video function? I can't capture video? Not even a few seconds? Argh.

I can't send a picture through SMS? Good lord.

What the heck is the deal with the recessed headphone plug that makes it impossible to use a standard 3.5mm stereo plug? Now I have to purchase a third-part adapter to use other head phones on a plane or the cassette car adapter? C’mon.

Clearly, the iPhone is the Emperor’s New Clothes. It’s a perfect example if you throw enough advertising, PR and marketing dollars at something, millions of people will eat dirt and call it fillet mignon.
