This is what I want my iPhone to have...

I know it's been discussed scattered through threads, but here is a short list of things I wish my iPhone did, and not to be spoiled, sort of expect, with all of the other stuff it's cabable of. Maybe I'll add more after more use.

-MMS, duh

-Running To Do list with reminders, the only way to work it now is with iCal, but it's all calendar entry, not a simple to do. Kind of annoying

-Copy/Paste

-Why can't I choose sounds for different alerts, ie email, calendar reminder, ect... I can change the incoming SMS, but I can't customize it. I would like all sounds to be fully customizable by the user.

-I'd kill for the ability to shuffle ringtones.

GPS is said to be coming. TomTom and TeleNav have both confirmed they have an iPhone UI. Apple confirmed GPS turn-by-turn is coming from 3rd party developers.

YES! Keys, wallet, phone. I'm always checking to see if I have those when I leave the house. I might just duct tape them all together. I got it!

iDuctTape®

If you take a decent enough photograph of discount/member cards that use barcodes, the person at the till can scan the screen. You look like a weirdo but it works.

A lot of good suggestions here. I'll add one more:

* Ability to turn Bluetooth on and off with a shortcut.

Bluetooth is a drain on battery, but I want to enable and disable it whenever I get in and out of the car. In California it is now illegal to operate a mobile phone while driving unless you have a hands-free kit (which my BMW has built-in).

Too often I forget to enable Bluetooth before driving out and have to wait for a stop light to turn the darn thing on.

Battery Life

Stood in line Friday like a moron. (But hey I have a white 16 gig :) )
Lost my first gen a week before. Battery life defiantly not the same,
CUT AND PASTE!!!? COME ON !!!!
Regardless of all the short comings, once you have this phone it is impossible to go back. (See above, went a week with old Moto Razr THAT WOULD NOT SYNC WITH MY MAC!!)
The positive side, Push, faster web loading, screen also looks sharper.
Just my 2¢

A "silent running" button. One touch and it switches off Bluetooth, Push email, wiFi, location services and 3G and hopefully preseves your power. In fact, just make a location manager that has three or four key profiles: iPhone in the car, iPhone next to my desktop mac, iPhone on the move, iPhone full monty.

Now that ActiveSync for Exchange push is running, I feel it is a necessity to be able to assign different alerts to email notification. Using this for business email in a loud data center when you are moving around alot normally requires a loud obnoxious alert because vibrate is not always detected.

I also see that it has been mentioned already but a Bluetooth on/off shortcut would be nice.

I'd like to see swipe support added to email. Swipe right to go to the next message, left to go to the previous message. Swipe up with 2 fingers to go up a level (ie back to inbox).

i would like to see the ability to have the choice to remove the stocks or the weather apps.
as i have no need for te stocks app or the weather app.

or atleast restric them, like the other apps that can be "hidden"

I would think something like this could be accomplished with an application. I've been wanting something akin to this since day one. I'd really like an individual icon on the main screen for each service; bluetooth, gps, wifi, and 3g, so I could turn each on and off with a single tap. Anyone know or happen to be a developer?

Most of what I want has been listed.

I would like to be able to sync my Safari bookmarks with Mozilla and be able to open links in a new tab.

This is minor, but I think I would like to have an option in the Settings where I could choose the first page of icons on my Home Screen to be what appears whenever I unlock my phone. Since the upgrade, I now have multiple pages of icons from all the programs I've added. And sometimes when I turn on my phone I get a little annoyed I have to flip back to the first page to find something I want readily accessible. Again, very minor, but I think I'd like to choose between it being where I last was and always on the first page.

It would be awesome if I could add cities to the weather app :p As it is now, it doesn't do anything at all here...

I just thought of this today while using GPS and Maps earlier. In lieu of having a spoken turn-by-turn GPS navigation app, I think two things would greatly improve the usability of GPS in Maps. First, when you set driving directions from your current location to where you want to go and hit "Start" have your blue blip pin of your location STAY at the center of the screen and have the map move rather than the blue pin move and the map stay. When using it today I had to swipe along the path of my route to see where to keep going. With that functionality I'd like to have the option of hiding the text directions. Second, I think it'd be a cool option (for use with my first suggestion) to have the map rotate to put whichever way you were driving toward the top of the iPhone. It could do this by taking your initial location and your immediate next location and draw a straight line between them, then have it rotate the map so that your pin stays in the middle and the map moves down to show that you are driving forward along your route.

I think I kind of explained it poorly and if I had the ability to make a movie of what I'm thinking, I would. I think it would make Maps a LOT more useful.

Just a note, you are asking for Google Earth. Google Maps doesn't (and probably wont ever) do what you are asking it to do. Google Earth does.

Everyone will agree with me that the whole media aspect of the iPhone needs to be improved.

- The introduction of MMS on the phone is a must. Yes you can email pictures and all of that, but it's not good enough. You need to be able to send from phone to phone.

- The introduction of video recording. Both iPhones are fully capable of capturing video, but Apple is ignoring this feature that is available on my $50 phone from Verizon

- Flash support is also a good thing to have in the browser. It's not as crutial as MMS and Video, but being able to view full flash sites would be a major plus

The only things that other people have stressed that I don't feel need to be implemented are a better camera and a camera flash. The 2.0 Megapixel is a decent enough camera for any phone, it takes clear pictures, if you want them to look better, buy a digital camera. A flash on the camera is also not needed, if you need it, get a digital camera.

Playlist Issue

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I have a playlist with 100 songs in it with various artists and various albums. In the Now Playing window when I hit the Cover Art button, it brings up my list of songs in the playlist. If I'm on song 50, everytime I advance to the previous or next song, the list refreshes and starts at #1 again. The old firmware would stay where you were in the playlist. Very annoying.

I'm sure its been mentioned in this long thread but

1. Tasks Sync with Outlook
2. Notes sync with outlook
3. MMS
4. Location Manager/Profiles (ie Home=Wifi, No 3G, No GPS: City=3G: Car=3G, GPS, No Wi-Fi)
5. Landscape keyboard is (almost) everything

It would sure be nice if a future software upgrade would allow the Calendar application to be view in "week" mode via landscape rotation. I've noticed most people that heavily use their iCal keep it in week mode to see their full weeks plans. There's no to do this on the phone, but I think it's possible. I would love to be able to see my full week's meetings with just a rotation of the the phone.

I sure hope they consider it! :D

not sure if mentioned before...

1. ability to send calender events to multiple people (last time I checked, most of the meetings i send invitations out for include more than just myself)

2. ability to send contacts via email (as outlook format or vCard format)

3. ability to search the inbox (like searching the contacts)

I just made the switch to iPhone after 3 years of being a win mobile user and I am really missing these features.

the thing is...how can we get this feedback to Apple Product Managers?

Hopefully, Apple employees lurk around here
