1) The lack of a good search function for ones contacts is a horrendous ommision. I don't see how Apple plans an entry into the enterprise community without this basic function. I have to carry my old Treo around to look for various contacts. One must be able to search all fields within the individual contact not just the name.
I don't know if I've ever needed to search contact fields other than the name. If you need to find out if a number is in your contacts you can type the number in the keypad and the name will come up if it's in there. I'm not saying you have no need for it, I just don't see it as being a big priority item.

3) Also providing up / down and right / left arrows for scrolling thru your txt/email instead of having to depend on the accuracy of ones "touch" to move the "cursor" would greatly facilitate ones user experience.
The arrows would also be touch, and I think that would be more difficult to maneuver than the way it is now. Not to mention it wouldn't really work with the UI. Where would you put these arrows?

I can make my peace with only being able to create groups for my contacts on my computer, even though it seems like they should allow this on the phone.

I can shed a bitter tear but forgive that the search function only looks in a VERY select and unchangeable set of fields...

BUT... until there is a way to transfer a file (pdf) from my MBP to the iPhone... and then email that file as an attachment, they have lost me as a customer.

I really want to give them my money, but that's a non-starter.
If you're transfering files from your computer why not just email them there? I also think there should be a way to save files, but using it for that just seems silly to me.

How about a friggin DOCUMENTS VIEWER? One that is NON WEB BASED that will allow the uploading of files via iTunes? Document viewing is ESSENTIAL to STUDENTS as well as BUSINESS professionals, though apparently not as essential as Tip Calculators, Bingo Games, iFlashlights and other Crapp Store fare!
Applications in the App Store are only as good as the people who make them. App Store apps have nothing to do with software upgrades for the iPhone.

I don't like that that the repeat options on the iPhone are more limited than in iCal. I had a meeting that was the 2nd Monday of every month, but was changed to the 2nd Tuesday. I tried to change it in my phone, but I can only choose monthly. I also made other changes, which weren't updated to my iCal, even though I have MobileMe, but that's another problem all together...

It's also a pain that drop down menus automatically go to the first option. I filled out an address form and the country defaulted to United States, but it wasn't the first option. So the phone sent me to the top and I had to scroll down again to get to US. I could just not select that one, but when using the next feature sometimes I forget.

you are so right

I too have to carry my treo around for files in word, pages, excel, and numbers not to mention power point and key note. The fact that I can't use laridian bible products except the horrendous web based product where the daily verses don't match the ones on my treo or pc is a set back. Here's another biggie NO COPY AND PASTE! boy is this a fiasco of the 3rd order. "To do" list syncing would be nice. And audio notification of missed calls, text and messages.

If it wasn't for my treo locking up all the time I would switch back (perhaps that's why apple doesn't add all these features b/c they cause lockups)until some of these issues are resolved, I'm back to carrying 2 devices like I was several years ago with a razor phone and a dell axim PDA.

My Iphone has an annoying pause now before loading any apps I was wondering if it was b/c I have too much data on it. I've used 13 of the 16GB's.

Exchange enhancements

I'd like to be able to view contents of my folders in exchange. It currently only allows me to view the main Inbox and nothing in the sub folders.

Edit: It isn't the phone, come to find out that the my case insensitive exchange logon is treated as case sensitive with the the iphone. I changed it and it works now.

I'm sure all these have been posted before, but as someone who uses their iPhone as a phone first and data device second, this is what I find most frustrating, and hope can be fixed with software updates:

1. No repeated notifications for missed calls/texts/voicemail. A single beep isn't good enough, there should be the option to repeat the notification at a set interval until the message is picked up.

2. Weak vibration. My old Motorola used to vibrate itself off a table. iPhone needs a stronger vibration, I've missed many calls even with the phone right beside me. The current vibration can't be felt through clothes either (if you're carrying it in your pants pocket)

3. No individual timestamps & individual deleting of text messages.

Those should be easily remedied through a software update (except the vibration, which might be a hardware issue).

is there a way to only have exchange (corporate) contact email address show up when composing emails? i like to completely separate work from personal stuff. ideally, i would have contacts list with phone numbers and email addresses, and then when ever i go into Inbox to compose an email, only corporate addresses would come up. furthermore, i would setup a Gmail inbox as well and only see personal contacts when composing emails in the Gmail account. does anyone know of sort of solution for this? or would this fit under enhancements. i would think most people would like the idea of separating their corporate stuff from personal stuff but have access to both within the iphone.

Im a new user So maybe Im missing some things

A. Is there a way to set teh phoen to have an Alert sound when the Battery is getting low ? I like the 20% message, but An Audible alert would be perfect.

B. Is there a way to view the length of calls ? I can see how long its going if I LOOK at the phoen whil im on a call...but afterward I dont see any time lengths.

exactly what this person said

Not everyone's needs are the same!

A.) I don't know if I've ever needed to search contact fields other than the name. Before you call an idea silly you might consider that a person who claims to need something may have a point.

A.) If you NEED to call the "Head of Human Resources" at a particular company but can't remember her name... it is necessary to be able to search for the job title or department or company. On most smart phones you can, on iPhone you can't.

B.) Don't be obtuse. If you could email a file from your computer to the phone, you wouldn't need to use the phone to email that file out to someone else. But what about the times you only have the Edge or 3G connection to the outside world? The only way to email a file created on your computer to someone else would be to transfer it to the phone and attach it to an email from the phone (or use the phone as a tethering modem - and we all know how long THAT application lasted). On most smart phones you can, on iPhone you can't.

These are not frivolous requests... for many of us they are the killer apps that make a smart phone worth owning.

we need more app pages!!!!! and definetly VERTICAL SCROLLING!!!!
i like to categorize my pages, and sometimes i run out of room for my game one, that i have to move them to like utilities... and that sucks,,lol

I'd like to have the following features for the Mail application.
  1. Separate signature per mail account
  2. Folder subscription for IMAP accounts
  3. Folder management (i.e. create/rename/delete folders) directly on the iPhone

I want to be able to make a folder on the home screen and then put all my game apps in one and all the others in another folder. Oh and of course copy and paste would be nice. Landscape SMS texting. A Macrumors app would be good.

Fix the stupid typing lag! Every single update CLAIMS to fix the lag in SMS or email but my phone still does it. I have to exit the app then go back in for it to get right. The memory management on this thing sucks. Before 2.0 (and the apps) the OS was so damn fast and stable. My belief is the apps are not giving back memory correctly when exited so it kills the rest of the system.

You can see this with Pandora. There are times I run Pandora and the volume controls are not registering with the app (it adjusts the ringer volume instead). That is a memory issue as the phone think it's still an old instance of the app.

I just want a stable phone. I want my email to be pushed when I'm on Wi-Fi and not just EDGE. That is a bug and it needs to be fixed as well.

Hmm let's start with battery life. Ringtunes importing. Allowing movie files to be imported AND NOT crappy quicktime extensions. Passwords for every section within your phone ie Phonebook password, etc. A multimedia phone that u can't use for much more than calls? I haven't even tried using iPod features for fear my phones dead in 2 or 3 hours. I work in the music biz and we love our macs but as for this phone, I'm very disappointed. This was suppose to be "the" phone yet I've got a replacement coming Thursday and if the battery and a few other things arent any different i will be swapping it all together, ive told them, my service provider, im either sending the new 1 back as well or will be cancelling my service with them! They've advise me to try a new iPhone 1st and go from there. We'll see.

Hmm let's start with battery life - well lets do that - 2 words - 3G and BIG SCREEN. Dont like it, turn off 3G and dim the screen big time. Really dont like it, get a new phone with some crappy 2", 320x240 screen. Easy!

Ringtunes importing. - what's the problem???

Allowing movie files to be imported AND NOT crappy quicktime extensions. - by crappy I assume you are referring to one of the highest compression, lowest loss video codecs on the face of the planet (H264)

Passwords for every section within your phone ie Phonebook password, etc. - just because you are paranoid, doesnt mean they arent out to get you. Who the hell wants/needs the ability to PWD protect in this way????

Its surely not so bad!!! :)

What it needs, I guess, is a PDA-style launcher app. Don't think this fits with the Apple vision at the moment unfortunately!

A few features the iPhone needs in my oppinion..

  • SMS forward option
  • MMS
  • Video camera
  • Landscape keyboard for SMS would be convinient
  • Sync via WiFi could be interesting
  • Flash for Safari
  • Better reception!
  • Some of the typing lag
  • Cut and Paste
  • Custom SMS tones
  • Battery life increase would be good, can't do much about it tho
  • At least photo sharing via bluetooth
  • Ability to store documents for later use, its already got a document viewer, why not the ability to store them
  • Save YouTube videos

And thats about all i can think about atm.

BackGround GPS Functions

We must be giving access to background GPS functions. Example. We need to be able to tell the Iphone to send a GPS update every X mins.

For the work I'm dooing I think this are functionality that must be on the SDK:

  • SMS API
  • MAIL API
  • BACKGROUND APPLICATION

Maybe I'm not already a true iPhone programmer but those thing vould permit interesting application. :-D

see yaa

Agree with everthing here, but had a wee thought.

Thought it may be fun if when you send a text to someone else with an iphone or vice versa, a small icon would appear or the text would be in blue.

No idea how it would be implemented.
