This pathetic event was not event-worthy. And Apple promoing it to the press like the second coming is out of line for what they delivered on. We are not out of line, Apple was.

you read far too much into rumors my friend. Like i stated, prove that it was apples PR departments decision to claim its a big event. And by most standards this was a big event. Newly designed ipods, itunes finally reaching 8, fixing their screw up, all that adds up pretty substantially.

Maybe your idea of what a big deal is is out of sync with what apple and its shareholders find to be a big deal.

honest question, what was it you were expecting. and why.

That link doesnt show me proof that apples entire PR department sent the message out.

Well that wasn't the only place the story appeared. Stop going against the grain. The event WASN'T a big deal, it DIDN'T need a keynote, and it was UNDERWHELMING, in keeping with Apple's performance as of late.

:rolleyes: the term "apple pr" could mean one man, it could be many.

Notice how only one person has said they were contacted. You really cant see one guy in the pr department being on the phone getting journalists, and saying "its going to be a big deal" ?

You asked for a link, I got it. One person or 1000, it does not matter. If Apple PR says it, it is Apple talking. That is what a PR department is for- to speak for the corp. If it was someone speaking out of turn as Apple's pr department, they would have been fired and you would have heard.

I have shown you the proof you asked for- goole will find you more. Don't change the rules after the fact just because they don't fit your concept.

If the PR guy was working on Apple's dime making official correspondence with outside entities, then it is reasonable for the person on the receiving end of the correspondence to accept the PR guy's words as Apple's official opinion, regardless of whether or not that was originally Apple's intention.

If Apple never intended for the PR guy to use the words "big deal" in reference to this event, then regardless of whether or not they had intended that message to get out or not, Apple ends up with egg on its face. Apple is accountable for what was said. The remedy is likely something like quietly canceling that PR guy's bonus this year.

Maybe you should actually read the link I posted...

This type of call is unusual for Apple, who generally tries to keep details about its press events secret. This could be a hint that the event will introduce more then just a revamp to the iPod.

This again implies it was APPLES officail position (not a lone employee as you seem to think) that this was to be a big event. Turns out to be a dud.

the underlined is what you need to keep in mind. You guys expect apples PR team to be unfailing masters of language? it could have been a slip of the tounge, plain and simple. Or not.

By most standards, this would have been a big event, it was just overshadowed by foolish rumors.

I'll be more specific - what were you expecting in a product that apple didn't deliver?

people expected more from this event because so far in 2008 the mac line has been treated like sh*t.

my 3 year old mini and my 2 year old blackbook are a match for the said models available today, in the technology world thats a joke.... and now we must wait even longer as PC users get better technology for less money then us loyal mac users:rolleyes:

Milo...I appreciate your information. How bout this...when do You think the new MB & MBP are coming out? With what updates to hardware and or cost? I think thats what most that are dissappointed were Hopefully expecting...you know..."Bombshell"

:rolleyes: Uh, no. I think your ideas are out of sync, or you're simply trolling.

Apple's stock yesterday morning was 164.00. As of 320pm yesterday it was 157.00. Today, right now, it's $150.34 [-7.52(-4.71%)] and falling.

i guess it's not only that. apple also said they will have less profit in the fall because of some new revolutionary product. and steve also said they will have exciting new things in the fall. so all this with the event today of course creates a lot of hype. and in the end it's a software update, a bugfix and an ipod update. on top of that a lot of students had the silly hope they get new macbooks with the back to school promotion.

i'm not disappointed because i like the new nano though. i'll wait for the reviews to see how it handles audiobooks and then i might get one. my 4G iPod is a POS that can't even remember where i left off an audiobook. it also has an extremely slow user interface and you can hear a whirring sound from the HD in the headphones. it almost makes me not buy iPods anymore ever. in fact i held off buying an ipod for three years because my ipod is such a piece of crap. but now it's battery dies and i need soon a new one.

For once, I'm not rushing to buy after an Apple event. The colours of the nano are nice, but nothing special to me. I could have slept in :mad: Please release the MBs and MBPs soon!

Well mayb if you actually read the article youd notice that ur little quote is pure speculation from an internet blog. I read the line that said an Apple pr guy on the phone told him it would be a big deal. It never gave direct quotes as to how the conversation went. That alone opens it up for speculation, from both ends

Well with the new grid view right next to cover flow i'm really missing the list view with covers to the left in iTunes 8.

You fanbois just can face reality when it goes against Apple, can you?

Yes, I do expect the PR team to be unfailing. They are PROFESSIONAL SPEAKERS. They get paid to communicate EXACTLY what Apple wants them to. And, if they should happen to overstate something, thery issue a clarification. Which they have had 6 days to do. No clarification... it IS what Apple wanted out there.

A slip of the tongue? Are you REALLY that naive?

By most standards, this would have been a big event, it was just overshadowed by foolish rumors.

Wrong. By ANY standard, this was a lame event. No new products, just minor upgrades in capacity and color. A software revision they had previously promised. Certyianly not the "Big" event Apple promised... and thus even more dissapointing.

again, that is reading too much into this single event. The fall is an entire quarter of a year, and if im not mistaken today is september 9th. Expectations were too high simply because we take rumors and news and try to piece them together when in reality all we are doing is speculating

I agree it was a bit disappointing, but, it's not true that there weren't any new products.

* New iPod Nano.
* Improved iPod Touch.
* New version of iTunes.
* New HD TV content.

Nothing groundbreaking or what I would call a "big deal," but, there is new stuff.

....and what happens when the products are acutally released and the swarms of people buy for the xmas season?

exactly.

Go into List View, then click on the View Menu and select "Show Artwork Column". Or, simply click the triangle in the first column header, next to the Name heading...

This was a music event. The invite said that. The rumors confirmed that.

Apple rarely if ever makes computer and ipod announcements at the same event.

I just don't get why people expected computer announcements today. I don't know when apple will update things (and I absolutely agree that updates are overdue for a number of models), but it will be at its own event, not lumped in with iPods. If there are speed bumps or price drops, there may not be an event at all.

Million Dollar Question is the screen on the New Ipods anybetter than the previous screen, comparable to the 3g? Or What?

I am one of those "Halo" buyers...i-Phone, Touch ect.....I will wait a month or 2 for a MB. My Ex had one(yes she took it) and I loved it. Santa....I want a new MB for X-mas
