and if i remember correctly, it wasnt the actual apple corporation saying it would be a big deal, just a stupid PR guy and everyone blew it out of proportion.

Nike + iPod is compatible with iPod nano and iPod touch (2nd generation). iPod nano (1st generation) must have software version 1.2 or later.

I wish we could see some numbers. They got rid of the larger classic, I can only assume because sales weren't as strong as they hoped. Yet they've integrated this nike device - I can't imagine they're selling that many of these shoe inserts that they keep touring it and expanding it...

Lamest event ever. Steve needs to take a sabbatical and have a few sammiches and a bunch of donuts. Then he can come back in six months and start selling some *amn computers. Is Gil Amelio available to take a few snaps ? :D

Don't think so- it was "Apple Officials"...

It was Apple saying it.... and there is no pay off. Apple cried wolf.

Ill beleive you if you had provided a link to proof. Again it could have been a single apple employee that cant keep his mouth shut. one person does not mean the company stated this.

Also, new products are always a big deal, especially when they are the iconic ipod. That is why apple has events when they update them.

I'm not disappointed at all...

I really don't see what the fuss is about. So what Apple didn't release all of the products you wanted at your whim. The new Nanos are very cool I think. I won't be buying one, but none the less innovative. It's a tiny little MP3 player with an accelerometer, neat. Also, the touches got some nice improvements. I've seen some people wishing for the Touch to get 3G. That makes no sense, I could understand maybe a GPS chip and a camera, but 3G? Then is would need to connect to cell towers = contract with Cingular. That is called an iPhone.

I'm just happy that they are finally releasing the iPhone 2.1 software. I think that is big news. The big news being they're fixing all of our phones with tons of bugs. They needed to fix the product that had problems before they went off releasing tons of new products with new features.

Just my 2 cents. :)

So do I take advantage of the back-to-school specials on MBs/MBPs while I still can, or do I continue to wait it out?

I'm going to be handing over my current white 2.16 C2D to my wife as soon as possible. (She has a 5-year-old Dell that needs replacing.) And, so, I'll be picking up a new MB/MBP for myself. Do I wait or buy now?

Some nice updates, but hardly the "big event" I was hoping for. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

Hopefully the new 8GB iPod touch I ordered will help pass the time until the Notebook update. If not, it'll be a race between the update and my being commited to a padded cell. :p

What a pathetic event.

I would have opened up my wallet to you Apple, but you screwed up BIG TIME.

Instead of making the iPods LARGER...you make them SMALLE??!

STUPIDEST IDEA EVER

Time to retire Steve, your time is done.

Next thing I'm probably going to hear iTunes wasn't rewritten and they just bloated it even more....

Anyone can say for sure if the new in-ear headphone will be fully compatible with the iphone?

Lots of people think they know, but nobody can really say for sure until apple clarifies.

I wonder if the iPhone needs 2.1 to use it? Apple has not listed compatibility for certain products at the time of their release in the past then added them later.

No, but Apple PR is Apple- they speak OFFICIALLY for Apple. Same as Steve Jobs saying it. Here you go fanbois:

BIG mistake on Apples part to promo this as "Big" and not deliver... Apple cried wolf!

New products? WTF? Show me a link to a NEW PRODUCT from this event.

some ugly bugs... mixing up languages...

Well there was 9 episdes season 1, I paid $27 for the blu ray, now if I had bought them on Itunes in HD that would be $2.99 x9 about the same price
It should be less on a Physical Medium free format.

SD should be .99 and HD $1.99 if they wanted to kill Blu Ray

I would rather not have the physical media ... with the number of DVDs I have it just takes up too much space these days.

Not to mention, I like the convince of clicking and watching media on my TV. I am lazy, what can I say :D

The HD TV shows they have is *VERY* limited right now. I might buy Dexter to get my girlfriend caught up with it. I was actually expecting a few more shows then they have.

I know more is coming in time, but with the start season 2 of Terminator last night I was expecting it to be on iTunes today in HD. Fox missed an excellent opportunity here to really promote the show.

Yes I do...Thats what makes it that much more puzzling. Apple just lost around 10% a share this week and M$ launches a new add. Apple is usually more agressive with their marketing. The MB hsa gone years with minimal upgades. They have changed the i-Pod touch twice within a year? Seriously...What does it take to figure priorities? 150 dollar i-pod or 1100-1400 dollar MB that has had minimal revisions for almost 2 years?...

The computers will get upgraded at some point, it will just be a different event.

Just look at the intel roadmap to get a hint of when it may happen.

I just re-downloaded iTunes 7.7.1! Woohoo!

Doubtful. On mine it just didn't show the new number until after restart. Did you actually try running it?

You want some huge innovation of product lines EVERY YEAR!?!? you realize the company has to make money right? It cant be a continuous cycle of release and update. At some point you have to sell the friggin product for a while so costs to produce are overtaken by total sales.

I still don't understand why they dropped the 160GB iPod classic. Wouldn't it have been a better move to drop the 80GB and just have the 160GB?

Steve noted that he wanted to go with the thinner form factor of the 80GB unit, and the largest capacity drive that fits in there is evidently 120GB. And being within 40GB of the top end isn't too crippling.

Really?

What a pathetic event.

While I agree that Apple should not have made the iPod Classic smaller, do you really believe this means Steve Jobs should retire? I mean, really? He should end his entire career because he took 40GB away from one iPod model... Really?

I think I'm going to take a break form the MacRumor forums for a few days. There is so much anger and hate over something so minor. And don't give me that "I need a new laptop for my job so it is a big deal" or some other sob story... Their current products work just fine. Besides the iPhone 2.0.2 software, which will be updated this Friday. Peace :apple:

Not if nobody was buying the 160 - if people are mostly buying the cheaper one, makes more sense to just have that model.

 the term "apple pr" could mean one man, it could be many.

Notice how only one person has said they were contacted. You really cant see one guy in the pr department being on the phone getting journalists, and saying "its going to be a big deal" ?

That link doesnt show me proof that apples entire PR department sent the message out.

This pathetic event was not event-worthy. And Apple promoing it to the press like the second coming is out of line for what they delivered on. We are not out of line, Apple was.
