What would really be dope is if apple rolled out a 7" tablet @ $250 just to squash amazon. But anyway I do think that Apple knows they have to compete more than ever. Assistant and A5 will not be enough to totally reiterate its position as the best phone far and away. 4" screen, new design, A5, assistant, 4G, new carriers, ios5, 8MP camera will crush everyone. Throw in a 7" tablet and apple stock = 400 tomorrow midday

Assistant is going to have 1000x the impact that a larger screen would have. Leave those bad moves to the commodity android handsets

The delay was because of the assistant feature. That is the heart of the new iPhone.

I can think of exactly one 8 megapixel camera, one 4" screen, one brand-new design, and one A5 processor that completely disagrees with you.

It would be an amazing feature, but as excited as i am for it, i know I will hardly use it.

iCloud Photo Stream sharing?

Apple has NOT given us any details on a method for sharing the Photo Stream feature we will all get with iCloud. They talked about how we would get our pics into our Photo Stream, but did not mention a way that we can get others to see those pics. With MobileMe galleries, we had a web space. Can we assume people with be able to subscribe to our Photo Streams? Or will we get a customizable web front-end to all of our iCloud data? Could this be connected to the rumored "Find My Friends" feature?

Who said anything about pissing anyone off?

It makes perfect sense from a technological perspective:

Apple releases iPhone 5 on Sprint with WiMax
Apple releases iPhone 4S on AT&T and Verizon
In a few months, Apple releases iPhone 5 on AT&T and Verizon with LTE.

In short, at this point in time, LTE is not ready for Apple. WiMax is a 4G service that is widespread enough for adoption of the iPhone.

Makes sense especially if sprint has to buy 30.5m phones but not sure Apple wants to piss off customers. I think they would rather wait for LTE to be ready. Most people would skip the 4S on their carrier if Sprint had a shiny, redesign 5 in their stores. My bet is low cost or free on contract iphone 4 and new iphone 5 for the masses.

I understand that nobody knows when the iPhone 5 will be released.

Assuming it's not released tomorrow, I'd like to hear speculation on when people *think* it might debut. I'm wondering, because I really don't know whether it's better to get the proposed iPhone 4s soon, or to hang on for several more months (or however long) to buy the iPhone 5.

Obviously, any speculation is just ... speculation. I get that no one has a clue; I just wanted to hear people's thoughts on it.

Thanks!

You don't even understand what it is how can you claim you won't use it

What intrigues me is that they're doing it at the Apple Campus. That's highly unusual for a big launch, it's not a large space.

I'd be more tempted by WP7 if Microsoft would have a reasonable upgrade schedule. They're doing interesting work but man are they slow.

uh!? 3 releases in one year including the iOS5 features is slow? Dude get real.

I really, really doubt it. I could be wrong, but I am almost certain Assistant is going to be overhyped and rarely used in the real world.

Lets talk iPhone my interpretation -

iPhone 4S to hold you over, and let's talk about what you want in I5

Siri rocks

I am very excited about Assistant, based on Siri of course. This morning for s--ts and giggles I decided to ask the Siri app to "Open the pod bay doors, HAL" and it answered something like: "You know, if not for HAL, we wouldn't be talking right now." I proceeded to laugh hysterically and simultaneously freak out a little bit. Yes, I am going to like iOS 5 and the new iPhone, whatever it is -- if I can joke about 2001 and HAL to it, and it actually understands the joke. :D

I find the outright skepticism about the iphone5 that the authors of these articles convey amusing.. Didn't the ipad2 teach these fools anything?

I think a reason to do it on apple's campus might be to keep the high level of secrecy up. They have much more control there. Another tip-off that we might see something tomorrow that we arent really expecting. I really think Tim Cook needs a big splash tomorrow. Assistant is cool but after 18months Apple probably should have a new design. Either way making enough phones will certainly be the issue here. I highly doubt there will be the A5 chip in any new ipods because they need everyone they can make for the phones.

If it's exactly like the rumors are saying... I would use it to show off to my friends and text while driving.... that's about it. I'm sure that goes for most everyone.

I'm not sleeping at all tonight, as I will be discussing iPhone all night.

My GF hates me at this point. Every time I talk, its iPhone... and she gets pissed.

I even said, I would buy her new iPhone 5, fully unlocked, for her, and she still mad at me because I talk about iPhone rumors too much.

WHATEVA B

I would suggest listening to her, or the only thing you'll be talking to is Assistant on iPhone asking for a new GF.

Girls aren't really into this tech stuff and will find someone else. ;)

I bet there is a trap door to a shark tank under every seat.

I bet your grandpappy said the same thing about the mouse back in 1985

I agree with him. Ever since the first voice type activation came out for the 3GS I was giddy about it. Then found it annoying and haven't touched it in almost a year. Zzzzzzz

Unlike WWDC they only need to fit the press in the room.

Fair point, but haven't they usually shown big product releases at Moscone or Yerba Buena, so as to fit more press/apple staff/pixar guys/etc? Town Hall has historically been for spec updates or stuff like the antennagate response.

Not saying it's indicative of anything, just odd for what we assume is such a major release.

Exactly. A lot of people will be pissed if they bought a 4S and realize the 5 will come out. The general public doesn't pay attention to much of this stuff.

From what i can tell assistant might be pretty cool but I have a feeling its going to be another facetime. How many people use facetime or voice control today? I know apple made a big deal over facetime but remember they did so when announcing iphone 4. I see assistant will be the killer feature along side iphone 5 + ios 5.

No, only when there have been developers there as well. Press-only events are usually held in a smaller venue.
