I was responding to a direct question. So we can't post in a thread if we don't agree with you? I guess I missed that part of "uniting".

Unless you know how to give glass a matte finish, glossy is here to stay.

"Professional looks" is subjective. I think the MBP looks plenty snazzy and professional.

I have now made up my mind that I would settle down on the new MBP because it is a very great machine from indise. I only want a tighter hinges on the screen

ugh. this new thing is unacceptable... I'll probably be going lenovo if they don't fix it. Where's firewire 400? Why displayport? glossy display??? idiotic chiclet keyboard? black trim? this is ridiculous.

It stares styling cues and feature characteristics with the rest of the Mac line! It uses a faster and backwards-compatible version of an often-used port instead of its non-bus-powered 4-pin derivative! It's supposed to look like a professional computer, not a Mac in notebook form! Utterly unacceptable!

They might eventually - but as this time a major design change is involved, a solution will take a very long time. Many of us will have to bite the bullet and buy a glossy MBP due to the lack of alternatives. I myself won't be able to switch to Windows, simply because I've invested too much in the OS X platform. As I sold my old macbook pro I'm desperate need of a notebook. I seem to have waited too long to get my hands on a previous-gen model, so now I'm screwed and will probably have to get a new one and some anti-glare film :-(

This is not an issue to me.

In most cases, I need to use a DVI to VGA adapter. Or DVI to video.

At least the Displayport allows one end of the adapter to be small. :)

I am definitely going to look at other options when I replace my current laptop. I assume many others will as well.

Things that are a turn off on the new MB/MBP:
- Glossy screen
- Black boarder
- Chiclet keyboard
- FW800 (MB)

This reminds me of Apple in days gone by when they were expanding too quickly and got a bit overconfident in their products. After that, Apple almost went away. Some of their current actions remind me of those days.

Anyhow, if you are disappointed in the current offerings, then let Apple know. Respectful and polite feedback is good. Just do it. :)
 
The new macbook pro is more powerful than the old one.

The new macbook pro has a stronger design than the old one, and is much more solid.

The new macbook pro (apart from lack of matte which is huge I admit) has a better, more evenly lit screen with better tilt and viewing angles.

The new macbook pro has a much better trackpad for casual use.

The new macbook pro will be better set when snow leopard is out, due to advanced graphics (which are considerably better than the old macbook pro).

The new macbook pro design dissipates heat better than the old design.

The new macbook pro keyboard is more attractive, and I must say I type faster on this than the old macbook pro. They keys feel VERY similar though.







Yeah I wish the 2.8ghz came standard at the ridiculous asking price, but its apple, they are pirates and they rip us off. Everyone...EVERYONE is aware of this. The new macbook pro is a great product, and improves upon the old one in every way, save gloss only and lack of firewire.
 
im enjoying my new mbp. my previous mbp overheated, had poor battery life and the power button sank in. POS. the new one is such a joy to use. i am pleasantly surprised how much i enjoy the glossy screen. black is actually black! the vents dont clog when using it on a bed, battery life is wonderful and the best feature is the new trackpad. its awesome with all the new gestures. and i love the rounded lid and how the ports are all on one side. and upgrading your hard drive wont void your warranty!!

i will concede to one thing i did like on the older one and that is the keyboard. the way it feels and looks. i hate how the keyboard lights bleed on the new one. but the many other joys out way this one thing. thats nothing compared to being cooler, quiet and faster. and im not sure if you noticed but pro doesnt always mean perfect visuals. look at final cut or shake. the grimmest ui you've ever seen on any mac app. you pro whiners, are you sure you really are pros? pros think about function over visuals. sheesh. go buy a dell so you can work on something that looks like a Transformer action figure carrying case..

FW400 is slow. Get over it. FW800 is MUCH better AND backwards compatible, geez.

Simply no room on the PCB for a full DVI port.

I haven't read most of this thread, so apologies if someone else already thought of this.

I say we pretend to be Steve Jobs and call Pizza Hut and get a bunch of pizzas delivered to his house that he didn't really want!

If, somehow we could do that right as we're TP-ing him, it would be awesomz!

I know. That "faster and backwards-compatible oft-used port I was referring to WAS FW800. Besides, IIRC, Lenovos (and most PCs) use 4-pin FW400, which, IIRC, isn't bus-powered.

I was being rather sarcastic, too.
 
let's just stop complaining. i'm pretty sure mac sales will go down in the following 2 quarters b/c of the introduction of the sick black bezel. WTF are they thinking about? :mad:

as a matter of fact, i like the new mbp in EVERY aspect except the black bezel and "mirror" screen. and these 2 major problems stopped me from getting a new mac.

for those who prefer the old design, go get one while u still can!

Sales will slow due to the economy, not due to a dislike of the new style.
