I appreciate the explanation given abouve by Atomic ED. He/She is the only person to exatly understand what meant by the google postr. And FYI, it was done in MS pain on botcamp...hahaha.
Yes, the new MBP is good and we all need time to accept the change. But few things like the trackpad were unnecessary. I having extreme high astigmatism need the matte screen. That is how it started.
Thnks,
BPN

I understand too :) . There are about 40 to 50% of the posts in the MBP section constantly stating the same issue over and over. No Matte screen, black keyboard, Glossy screen is too reflective or the new design look is not professional enough to meet the expectation of minortiy group. Constant complain is not going to change Apple's mind because there is a high chances that they don't even READ ANY OPINION here. The best way is send comments, suggestions, or dissatisfaction directly to Apple customer support which they actually record all your feedback in their main system and maybe the design team will collect information there as reference. I think this forum is suppose to be discussion of macbook pro problems, accessoires add-on to improve the the user experience comfort level, software bugs and solutions, and many other things that is actually useful/helpful.

I strongly encourage moderator to open a new thread for users to post their STRONG NEGATIVISM all in one thread and send it to Steve Jobs. So he actually KNOWS what the minority group think. Also, a new thread for users that like the new design. One thread for both side and make everyone happy.

What we have now are 2 different group of users constantly fighting over the same issue repeatedly, attacking each other for their self-ego or other millions of reasons. I highly suggest the moderator to move all the negative comments and positive comments to each of their own thread or delete all the fighting/argument here

But even though the power behind is definately better, the looks are not professional any more.
It's not professional looking anymore cuz it's a poorly created image, not because it has black. So, attached is a better implementation of your attempt. Still think it looks unprofessional?

This discussion is getting way out of hand. Let's face it, who cares how the MacBook Pro looks like? There is hardly a single piece of plastic in sight, it's a damn fine looking machine! From a pro-perspective there are just two things that will need to be addressed: matte screen & number of ports. The latter is less of a problem because it has 2x USB 2.0 and backwards compatible FW800 so I'm not really complaining.. (although some 10-inch netbooks have 3x USB!) but surely there was space for full DisplayPort? I mostly care about functionality. White keys, black keys, silver keys.. who cares?

I am looking forward for more views from new MBP users.

I love it how the OP kept on saying that the new MBP wasn't pro, but never gave any real reasons for his opinion

Maybe if you keep on repeating it some more, we might believe you

Agreed, there is nothing less professional about black - as a matter of fact, black is a very professional color.

I'm going all in on the completly black anodized aluminum MacBook Pro with a matte screen.

Blah Blah Blah Blah
I am so sick of you crybabies. You don't like the screen, you don't like the keyboard, your don't like this, you don't like that. You want it your way and you should have it NOW.
Wah Wah Baby wants his way.
Don't buy the damn thing and shut the **** up.
Wah wah wah

Go buy a windows machine.

If you were REAL pros you wouldn't be trying to do professional work full time on a laptop. and you would know that. If you were real professionals you would be dropping about $10K on a Mac Pro.

The macbook pro is the best compromise machine on the market, it is years ahead of others and makes a darn good attempt at allowing the traveling professional the best of everything at a fair price.

I am SICK and TIRED of your complaining. Stick a sock in it.
Vote with your $$$$ don't give Apple any more of your money if you think Steve will cave to your demands.

These guys have consistently gotten it right in the face of those who said they were losers. You guys are just one more voice. The voice of some self proclaimed professional but actually just a bunch of self indulgent over privileged crank yankers.

Of course dude! Everyone who doesn't like an Apple product is not worth it to be called a human being! Let's carry them together to be shot! How dare they say anything the almighty Jobs says is wrong!

While I don't have a Mac Pro I have an iMac + Eizo screen setup in my home office, and the glass screen of the iMac is no big deal for me here because I'm in control over the lighting conditions. However I often work for various agencies if they need another hand or an illustration or something, they like me to work there with my laptop. And they often have bright lit rooms where I, personally, wouldn't want to use my iMac or a new mbp. Of course you will now suggest that I should just lug my 21" Eizo screen around.

So now I have ordered a last generation 2,5 ghz mbp for almost the price of the new 2,0 ghz glassbook, it will last some time. ;)

I can see Steve entering the stage in 2-3 years saying "well, everyone has these glossy screens now, and people hate them for their reflections etc... So here is our newest innovation: the matte screen!" :)

And why is it always "you don't like it switch to Vista hahaha"... that's the most stupid argument. I have bought software for Mac OS X worth a lot of money, not to mention I like OS X better. I just happen to prefer a matte screen. Sadly it seems that everyone who likes matte screens is now an insult to every true Mac fanboy.

Last but not least, I quite like the new design, the unibody is great and the black on silver doesn't bother me, I'd just like to have it with a matte screen.

I think everything about the new MBP is perfect. Except for the super glossy glass screen. Matte options, please :D. I say give the glass screen some sort of anti-reflective treatment like what they do with professional CRTs and it will be perfect! :)

I agree with you. I don't have a huge problem with glossy screens... just don't make them look like a mirror! :D

I actually quite like the new look. I love the trackpad. But I hate the guts of the freaking glass-screen. I probably could (somehow) live with a normal glossy screen. I never thought the MBA's was bad (at least not to an annoying degree). It's not the glossy screen per se, it's the window in front of it I hate. I also think that it's the glass that makes the new MBP look like a toy.

Dear Chaos

Spend another $35 and get a matte film. or pull your blankie over your head and screen\\\\\ OK that was harsh.
The question is not whether you can get Apple to give you a matte screen option, the original question was whether "we can get apple to make a decent product again". The whining and crying is, without a doubt, the worst I have ever seen anywhere. I don't care if you don't like a glossy screen or even if it gives you eyestrain. You, at least made a conscious decision to take a leap back and purchase a machine you can live with. Kudos.

Why is it switch to MS, simply because some people (including me) are willing to put up with a crappy operating system when they have software apps that demand it and the apple architecture is not robust enough to handle it in boot camp or parallels. (i.e.64 bit apps that only run under Vista). As far as the machines go, the hardware in a Lenovo is almost as good (and in some instances better) than an Apple based machine.

this problem is so easily solved. The clue is in the name, they should not have called it a MacBook Pro because now everyone wants a very 'Pro' machine. They just need to change the name to......... The 'MacBook slightly better'
now everyone can agree that this is true. see, done, fixed!

ok - I'll do that too - will you come by and apply it so that there's no dirt and air-bubbles etc. underneath? From what I've read, it's close to impossible to fit those films so that they don't look like utter crap.

I personally do not have any problems with the new unibody, but the whole laptop looks cheap with the black color.

All the cheap consumer PC laptops are silver. All the pro ones are either dark grey or black.
I really think that the old MacBook Pro Keyboard looks cheap and it's really crap. The new one is way better. They should have made the entire machine out of black aluminium, that would be a decent look.

I agree on the glossy screens though. The ones on the old MacBooks were acceptable. The least glossy "glossy screens" out there. The new ones are just mirrors, as awful as they can get.

So many guys are trying to proove my post wrong. Now I will give you a perfect example. Look at the pictures. The while picture is the original google (old MBP) and the new black one is the new google (new MBP). Some people will finally accept the way google is and say it is good. But even though the power behind is definately better, the looks are not professional any more. This is the exact same way MBP is upgraded.

I disagree. You would have to show a silver vs. black and silver google.
For Websites bright colors look professional. For notebooks silver looks cheap. Real alumnium not so much (as with cars, plastic "aluminium" interieur vs. brushed metal interieur) - for real materials always look more authentic. But then there are those who prefer wood inside their car. Hell Apple why don't you offer wood on your computers? That would be really superiour, mahagoni and quilted maple please.

In my opinion there is a thin line between whining and simply discussing new products. And discussing new products and their advantages/disadvantages is something (among other things of course) why we are on this forum I guess. I hope I haven't crossed that line with my last post... while it may have sounded a bit harsh this was not my intention. Anyway thanks for your calm reply. :)

And actually I'm rather happy now with the purchase of the new old mbp. I couldn't afford a "new" mbp now anyway, I got this new old one really cheap and it will last 3-4 years easily and who knows what's out by then?

The new MBP is not really a MBP. People in the shop just call them all MacBooks now and there's a distinct lack of distinctness between each model now. They feel remarkably solid, they really do... but I prefer the old one. By a mile.

In my mind, the iBook/PowerBook categories were when Apple notebooks were at their peak.

I too just bought an old MBP. I bought a 2.16Ghz version for £500 ($1000 ish) on eBay the other day. There weren't any photos and he said it was damaged. Turns out it's got a couple of dings (can replace cases sometime in the future) but works great apart from that. Got a large enough screen for me to work on certain things that are a pain on the 12" screen.

If you're really in a business where the appearance of the external enclosure of your mobile computer matters that much, then you're in a business where you need a ThinkPad. Preferrably a T60/61 or an X60/61, so you can get a a 4:3 screen.

I'll admit to not having seen one in person, but I have used the old MBPs extensively, and I've got to say I hated nearly everything about those craptastic machines. The metal enclosure on the old one got gunked up far too easily, the keyboard was easily the worst keyboard on the planet, and they felt so flimsy compared to older G3 PowerBooks, and compared with my Lenovo ThinkPad.

The ThinkPad on the other hand uses a nice black plastic which is extraordinarily difficult to get gunked up, and feels very solid. More than once I've grabbed my ThinkPad by the bezel around the screen and picked it up. Perfectly solid machines.

The new MB/MBPs look awesome, and while I won't go grabbing them by the screen, I'm definitely going to be looking keenly at reports on whether or not they flex easily or fall apart, as it may be the machine that makes me look seriously at Apple's mobile offerings again.

New Macbook

Hi, I am trowing myself into this battle. I am a student and work at InfrontX as a programer here in norway. There are a few things that stops me from buying the new macbook pro:

- The new macbook air layout ( the older on that I am currently typing on is much better and I can type much master on this one)

- The glossy screen ( I dont work with visual content, but it is really distracting to see myself when I code )

- The new place for the battery indication ( I have three batteries in my messenger bag and when I need to replace one, I can check them without putting them in the laptop. With the new MBP i have to put in everyone to check them..... )

- Lack of Firewire ( not a big problem at all for me, but it is annoying when I need it every once in a while )

- The new displayport  ( OK, OK, I know it is the new standard, but come on, how many projectors and TV´s have you seen with a displayport ? I just want to hook my MBP to a projector without any adaptors. Frankly, it is like putting in a new port called; Micro-USB, it will work with usb, you just need a adaptor. It´s ok, but annoying as hell.)

For me at least, the new MBP is a step back for us ho really need a mobile workstation. I like the idé that thing should just work as apple has worked really hard to achieve, but now there is need for adaptors and lost functionality over the old one.

*/ Sorry for the bad english guys */

You know it! Steve will enter, reality shield at full strength and stat they have come up with a NEW Matte screen system which will be the same as the old but he's selling it to you in a different way. I can't wait to see what they do with the new ACD screens, with the expected new Mac Pros in Jan/ 1st half next year, are they going to also release ACD's with glass screens? It will be interesting.

the soccer stadium? a wedding reception? the city marathon?

Serious color balancing work at a wedding reception? Or anywhere on any laptop TN panel? If your serious work is on a TN panel, I'd suggest that matte vs. glossy is not going to make a huge difference. I'd also suggest a $2.99 solution of black posterboard that you could cut into a custom Eizo-like hood:

ch1-bk.jpg

All that matte is doing is smearing the reflections and the pixels behind it.

Note to Griffin and Belkin, Macbook Pro custom glossy screen hood now patent pending
