They have to keep the X+ the same price as the 2017 X somehow... People will think it's a bargain but actually, we will be getting poor screens - nothing can touch Samsung OLED mobile screens period.

Also, the rumours are that Samsung will have an even better, brighter screen for the S10 meaning greater leaps forward while the 2018 X+ will be using inferior 2014 LG panels - no thanks, which is a shame.

There will be panel differences, damn, we have panel differences now and Samsung make them all for the X!!

Mo Display, Mo Problems.

I won't buy any phone, that is bigger than the SE, even if it is just a millimeter....

All those people who hate on Tim Cook and continue to chant "This would never have happened if Steve were alive", have you considered the single longterm worst decision was probably Steve giving Samsung so much business to build the first iPhone?

The copying court has only just been settled (we hope). Again.

All the bravado "We patented the heck out of it" didn't seem as watertight over the years as it was made out to be.

I actually don’t have that much of a problem with current LED offerings. I know the spec differences but my 8’s LED screen is lovely. Are people really interested in off-axis viewing in an iPhone? (Cue the flames.) What really has me interested is microLED. Hopefully that will be coming, and Apple is stopgapping with OLED until microLED is ready for prime time.
My hope exactly. I think OLED will soon go the way of plasma. I’m all for perfect black levels but there are too many drawbacks. MicroLED, if they can scale it, would have all the benefits and non of the drawbacks. Until then I’m fine with LED.

You do realize... LG owns in the OLED department and their TVs are perfect example. ::facepalm::
From my understanding...

LG tv screens > Samsung tv screens
Samsung smartphone screens > LG smartphone screens

That's been my experience. The last lg oled smartphone screen I had was the LG V30, and the last Samsung oled screen I had was the S8 plus. The Samsung screen looked better, IMO.

Has anything changed since then? Maybe my phones were too outdated.

This won’t effect me as I’m not getting an X Plus.

I’m happier with my current Samsung OLED display on my X more so now than before knowing this.

I can't vouch for the quality of Samsung OLEDs, but if the LG OLEDs are similar to the quality of their TV panels, cue OLED-gate.

Let's be honest.
Are apple going to use some of panels because.

1. Samsung can't supply enough screens
2. Of are better quality, and apple is all about quality.
3 lg are cheaper and apple are using this to try to make Samsung think if they don't lower their price apple will use lg totally.

No notch please. Really ruins the iphone X design.

If you're secretly hiding the technology to embed sensors behind a screen then by all means please share them with Apple. If not, statements like "no more notch" has no effect. I don't want cancer to exist but saying "no more cancer" doesn't do anything to solve the problem.

In order to minimise bezels, the notch is the best solution Apple can provide using current technology. But if you love bezels, there are plenty of other phones on the market.

You haven't even seen the new iPhone yet and you're already making a decision about it? After all the bad press the Pixel 2 XL got, I can almost guarantee you Apple's implementation will be far better.

Is has to be as good or better than the current iphone x's display.
The fact that Apple ordered only between 2-4 million units means it probably isn't.

With max 4 million units ordered from lg they won't achieve anything.
Now if the Plus model would use only lg panels maybe it would attract Samsung's attention. From the way things look that doesn't seem to be the case.

I think it's pretty embarrassing that people don't want the best OLED screens (Samsung) in their phone purely because Samsung is a bigger competitor than LG. Samsung Displays is a separate company from Samsung Mobile and is a different company than the one making fridges. I 100% believe there are Apple users who would refuse to buy a Samsung fridge even if it was the best option, that's how petty people are.

LG panels from the rMBP through to the Pixel XL2 have been garbage. Even in their own flagship phones they are poor. This isn't something new, and it won't suddenly go away. Can we please get away from this tribal, us vs them attitude when it comes to Samsung. Appreciate that other people do things better than you at times. Apple don't manufacture anything. They design. If they can't find a manufacturer that can build something to their design specs, they have nothing. Samsung has been making the best reviewed mobile device screens for years now. Instead of an end user blindly hating a corporation for some stupid ideology, why don't you just appreciate that Apple are using the very best screens available?

So, when Samsung releases a phone in 2018, it will have a '2018 screen'. But if Apple releases a phone in 2018 with an LG screen that by definition will be a '2014 screen'? Because LG has a 4-year exclusivity period for its screens? Or are you claiming that the Samsung screen division innovated in late 2017 (with the iPhone X screen) and will innovate again in early 2019 with the S10 screen, whereas LG won't have improved their screens (even those shipping in phones this autumn) since 2014?

Hope there are enough reviews talk good about LG P-OLED screens in their flagships. Samsung gets great reviews on their mobile displays. I have LG LED TV which is still doing great for many years but never owned their mobiles with OLED. Samsung is proven one but let's hope LG has mastered the display manufacturing tech.

The only thing the current crop of iPhones has convinced me of is that I no longer need to buy an iPhone. When my trusty old 6 Plus eventually dies, I'll either look at the SE (in whatever form it's in at the time) or switch to something else.

While the Pixel 2 XL's LG OLED screens were generally panned, as others have suggested, the OLED panels Apple will be getting will be held to a much higher standard.

Sure, there won't be any differences. Just like the retina panels used on the MacBook Pros.

why - surely not because of the notch?

(Unfortunately, the) "iPhone XL" is far more important than the MacBook Pro to Apple so they'll invest a lot more into achieving "panel parity". Doubly so in that the "iPhone XL" will have a fair bit more direct competition than the RMBP had at launch.
