As much as I love to see a Retina display mini, I can't really see it happening soon because it will overlap the iPad. It is kinda like a MacBook Air have a retina display

Anyway, I hope it's true with the same amazing 10 hours of battery life and not much heavier :D

Don't believe it. iPhone and iPad will take the show in September and the mini will get a nice price cut for the holiday. But the retina mini will appear in march with its own special announcement. Hey look I'm an analyst....now where's my check....

should've came with the first one, but nope they leave it out for v2 to make it all magical so the fanboys will buy into it.

It just wasn't possible due to technological restraints.
Without the powersavings of the IGZO display tech and probably more efficient CPU the mini would have lastet like 3 hours.
Or they would have had to put in a bigger batterie, which would have made the mini bulkier and heavier.
They went with lightness and batterylife.
Now they can pick all three. high-res display, same lightness, same 10hr batterylife.

Of course, you are so right!! Actually, now when I think of it, the original iPad should have had retina screen too

Seriously, what kind if vitamins do some people get to enhance their brain!!

Over the past couple of months, there have been multiple reports indicating that Apple may be delaying its rumored Retina iPad mini until early 2014, with Taiwan's Economic Daily News citing Retina panel shortages as the primary reason.

There was a shortage because Apple bought them all for the minis :D

Hope it's true, I've been holding out but if Apple can't get it up soon I'll settle for an Android high DPI tablet. At least it will have a proper Finder.

Don't try to reason with an irrational person who has no idea how manufacturing or business works.

I am curious to see what happens with the iPad Mini.

If it gets Retina Display it can't move to an A6 (as A5X has better graphics), so will they just skip over to an A7? Also, it can't get Retina Display, have a more powerful chip, and get thinner, slimmer, and lighter without loosing battery life, can it?

Ladies and Gents, I hate to disappoint you but, we might just get a bump from A5 to A6 with no other feature added (maybe the finger print reader if iPhone 5S gets it). And the biggest feature is ... 1st Gen iPad Mini gets a price cut to ... $249!!!

Intersting, but still no clue on the actual resolution of this mini retina. Downsizing the whopping resolution of the iPad4 in a mini case would give something above 400 dpi, no ? Or something similar to the iPhones ?

Either way, this would mean being able to drive all these pixels so including at least the same CPU/GPU in a smaller package (not that hard) along with the battery (and this is hard). Are we about to see a new "breakthrough" in the mobile world in terms of battery like with haswell and laptops ?
The iPad mini has the exact same PPI as the iPhone 3GS (163 ppi), so a retina screen on the iPad mini would also have the exact same PPI as the iPhone (326 ppi).

I think this goes to show how crazy stupid we all are over "Apple News"

earlier this week there was an article saying the iPad Mini with Retina won't come out until next year.

Hows about this: Stop reporting every shred of news that you find...it makes you look like an idiot

Assuming for a moment this rumor would be correct and that Apple would eventually have the technology to offer Retina in the mini without reducing battery time. With that very same technology they should be able to give the full-size iPad a much better battery life.

Compared to the current iPad 4 a Retina mini looks compelling, if one is willing to give up on screen real estate. But what if the iPad 5 offers - say - 15 hours of run time, combined with a significant weight reduction and perhaps one or two other treats (like e.g. tactile feedback)?

I know that it would make _my_ choice much more difficult...

This analysis stuff is easy; It will be released before the end of 2013. Or it will be out sometime in 2014 probably, maybe.

Or, like me, many held off on the first one because this was an obvious marketing omission.

I just wish it would come out sooner rather than later, as I wanted to have one to give to my fiancée during the reception at our wedding at the end of the month so we could use it to Skype our family and friends who couldn't make it.

Digitimes: the most unreliable source for Apple rumors.

I'm sure they will make a precise and correct prediction. So far they said: Early next year, late next year, October 2013, and all the predictions I missed. Surely if they keep going, one of their predictions will be correct.

Yes it can, Apple has a stable of magical unicorns just waiting to be released, it can and will happen:D

Tim Cook doubled down on secrecy, and in doing so Apple continually muddies the water with false info. Mini retina pushed to 2014 may just be a false rumor and my guess is nobody will know until it hits the stage.

I think Apple will surprise.
