I find it funny that every review shows 5 stars. I am partially color blind so I assume they are coloring the stars but as they all look at same and every rating shows 5 stars I can only conclude it's a trick to make the reviews all look 5 star for those that can't see the color difference. 'creative' marketing.

On my end, I can see a number being displayed at the top beside the stars (2.3) to indicate what the rating is. Scrolling below shows a full breakdown of the average i.e.:

Overall: 2.3
Quality: 2.3
Features: 2.8
Value: 2.3

So I think this is pretty fair (but I'm still livid at LG Canada!)

That is very interesting! Poor website design overlooking accessibility. Yet another area Apple excels in and doesn't get credit for. The following are screenshots from the LG site - the first is five stars and the second is one star. :)

Agreed on the poor design choice, especially for people who may have vision issues. As I mentioned above, at least they include the raw value beside the stars.

Today was the day 14 Return Date for my LG monitor #2 and that's what I just did. I plan to reorder another one from Apple as soon as I can confirm that the problem has been fixed.

The gentleman at the Apple Store did not even raise an eyebrow and was very friendly and helpful. I have the feeling that I might not be his first customer who did this today.

I've read in this thread that others are experiencing lag and slow response from the monitor. I have the issue to. Moving windows around, animations, working in design applications. Nothing is smooth, everything is slow and unresponsive. Disappointing.

Does anyone have any tips or have found a solution?

Make sure you are not using Mirror mode. Clamshell and extended work best. I found issues to be more application based (i.e. resizing Outlook is choppy but moving/resizing a Finder window is smooth). You can also play around with the resolution settings (I leave mine on default).

Thanks. Feels like I've tried all the obvious things. I'm in Clamshell mode, default resolution. Just run one app etc.

But still experiencing lag and slow responsivness.

If available, you can also try using a different TB3 cables. I'm enjoying the monitor connected to be 13" for my day-to-day usage. Good luck!

I wonder if the delivery estimate going up from 2-3 weeks to 6-8 weeks then back down to 2-3 weeks is an indication of a purge of the inventory pipeline or at least a reworking of the undelivered stock to add the shielding.

I too would be surprised if LG had made a public statement as they did, if they were still shipping the original product. I'm pretty confident that they will already be shipping reworked units.

That said, I'm not going to be the first to find out and will wait a bit longer I think. I was all ready to buy two displays but this whole mess has got me seriously re-thinking that decision.
And now they're listed as in stock. I wonder if the old stock was purged as you say...

Picked up my 5K Ultrafine and connected up to my 2016 MacBook Pro 15 inch 2.7MZ/1TB/460 GPU. Amazed at the image coming from an 2014 iMac 5K. The monitor is sitting maybe 4 feet from my Nighthawk router. The desk partitions the two units with maybe a 2 inch wood divider. Been running for a couple of hours and experienced no issues with flicker. Can't speak to sleep issues as haven't let it go to sleep for more than a couple of times. Will update if I have issues. Monitor is very snappy with no lag. Doubt that I got a shielded model, but who knows. Am very happy at this point. That being said, I did buy the extended warranty through LG....wish it was AppleCare, but hopefully protect a hefty investment.

I experience the same overall lag sometimes when moving windows, and minimizing/maximizing windows, and Lightroom is always slow to render and load images. I'm using the Belkin TB3 cable on my 13" MBP w/ TB in clamshell mode all the time.

My monitor was replaced 2-1/2 weeks ago, I experience no other problems at all so it's a trade off I guess. I do miss the snappy performance of the Thunderbolt display, but the panel brightness and color on this LG is stunning.

Fyi, my router is sitting 4-1/2 feet away and have moved it much closer to test the shielding issue, gladly no interference from what I see. I have no freezing or disconnecting from sleep either. However, I do have a D-link IP camera that is sitting 4 feet away that oddly clicks on and off often when I'm using the display, but doesn't actually cause any issues from what I can tell, just the annoying clicking (like switching modes), so something is definitely funky here. I never hear it engage with the display off.

If they can fix the overall lag and correct the volume issue, I'm an overall happy customer now. The first monitor I received was a complete disaster and unusable.

can anyone play Netflix movies? I get a HDCP compliant message and won't play.

What is your MacBook type? What year is it?
What NetFlix resolution are you trying to play in?
What is the monitor and what is the cable used?

Did you see this article? Looks like they may have gotten on top of the WiFi interference issue.

I hadn't until you linked it! Very interesting. Particularly this:
AppleInsider testers got ahold of the LG UltraFine 5K display with additional shielding on Monday, and moved the shielding installed by LG on the new unit to a problematic monitor identified last week.
So the additional shielding must be obvious and relatively easily retrofitted.

I'm curious as to how physically big this shielding is and what precisely it is shielding.

May email AppleInsider to ask. Their reporting on this has been seriously impressive.

External HD keeps spinning
I have an LG Ultrafine 5K display connected to a recent Macbook Pro (late 2016). An external HDD is connected to the display via USB-C. When unmounting the drive on the laptop, it shuts down as it's supposed to. However, when disconnecting the laptop from the display, the external HDD starts up again and keeps spinning, although there is no computer connected. I assume that this is not the intended behaviour?

So far mine works fine, but I sometimes get a huuuge cursor stuck on my screen. Anyone got a fix for this or is it all about just waiting for a firmwire-upgrade? And will such one appear from the App Store?

For info, I just had a chat session with LG monitor support in the UK and asked if there is any way to tell when I collect my monitor from Apple whether it is a shielded one or not. The support agent said to look for serial numbers with a 702 prefix although he then said if I wait until March and the s/n is 703 prefix then those "will definitely be shielded" which suggests that perhaps not all of 702 (Feb 2017) monitors received shielding.

I'm really keen to get a shielded monitor because in my small study it is pretty much impossible to place my router (an Apple Time Capsule) more than 6.6 feet away as LG suggested. If anyone finds out a visual way to check for shielding having been applied then please let me know. Whether that be a specific serial number cut-off or some sort of quality control label etc.

If I was you I would just buy one soon and if it's a 702 and a router directly behind it doesn't cause interference, keep it.

I say that because I have a feeling that even if you wait until March you might not get a 703 unit. Once Apple states 'in stock' on their website, it usually means they have a gigantic number of them sat in the warehouse (like, thousands)*. Will they sell thousands of an expensive, niche product, that's just had a lot of bad press, over the next few weeks (i.e. fast enough to replenish stock with March-manufacture units next month)? Probably not IMO.

Add the fact that they went from 3-5 business days to 6-8 weeks to 2-3 weeks to in stock and it seems the stock has already been purged of bad models as you suggested.

*For example, if you pick a product that it 'in stock' online and is also available for in-store pickup same-day, you can increase the quantity to 999 and see that the in-store availability switches to 'ships to store' but the online availability is still one business day, making me think there are 999+ in the warehouse.

Yeah I'm probably going to try and get two of them for this weekend. I'm buying them through the business team so I'm just waiting on them getting back to me. My Time Capsule is literally right beside where one of the monitors will be so I'll know pretty quickly if it's shielded or not! If not then I'll return it and try again! :)

OK woke up this morning and my machine/monitor experienced a wake up issue. Account picture came up, but no space for password. Its been asleep a number of times today, but no problem. Enabled wake with the Apple Watch and that works fine. See what happens going forward. Have seen a lot of sleep issues posted here and on the MacBook Pro site, but no word of any fixes forthcoming. Is anyone in conversation with support on this?

isn't that the norm? when I wake it up, I get my avatar, and as soon as I start typing, it shows up and unlocks it. not sure if this is a sierra thing. this is in clamshell mode.

@Outrigger is correct. With Sierra on most Macs, upon wake from sleep, the password field appears after a second or so. On the new MacBook Pro, it doesn't, I presume because it is expecting you to use Touch ID.

The password field is hidden because it assumes you're using touchID.
You can enable it by going into \System Preferences\Users & Groups, select your user, click on 'Login Options' and check the box that says, "Show Input menu in login window".

Thanks guys. Think it is all a moot point now as I enabled two factor authentication and then Apple Watch auto unlock. Works just as well as touch id. Got to say though that I didn't expect the system to think I was using Touch ID in clamshell mode, right? Since my faux pas this morning, have had no further issues. Loving the monitor.

Hooked up a 2 TB SSD drive, a 4TB Time Machine drive and a usb hub so I can reach my scanner that is on the other side of 2 Canon WIFI printers. Monitor powers the hub without the optional power charger. I basically now have almost the exact same setup as I had with my 5K iMac except that now I have a mobile computer and a 5K screen the looks superior to the iMacs. Happy camper.

Just got confirmation that my replacement item has shipped.

I think that I will do a clean install of MacOS this weekend to make sure none of my installed utilities were acting up, like duet Display. Just to run a tight ship while I test the new screen.

Hmm, another stock purge?!

Wow. A lot of info here...I haven't had a chance to read through it all yet. Anyone hear anything from LG about firmware updates coming soon? The audio volume issues are annoying as well as the USB-C hub disconnecting and not being reliable. Sorry if this was asked before.
