limera1n - ALL 4.1 devices jailbroken!

Im not always know for doing whats best for myself (is anyone?) but am I ever glad I decided to pass on this JB at this time.

I have way too much to do to spend the day fighting with my ding dang iPhone... 😉

You should be able to jailbreak on a PC and sync with iTunes on your Mac, but when I did that with blackra1n ages ago I had problems with the blackra1n app not showing up. Still, no harm in trying.

I used TinyUmbrella, so when I sell my phone later on I can unlock it and sell it for more. It was quite simple, except when it came time at the end to kick device out of recovery, I had to restart TinyUmbrella and the phone to get it to work. After that, all was great, I was on 4.1 with 1.59 or whatever it is old baseband
 
So then, what's everyone gonna do now? I'm waiting for a stable and reliable version of limera1n. The dev team are saying that greenpois0n WILL be released but instead of using SHAtter, the limra1n exploit will be used. Best to wait imo.
 
So i have an iPhone 3gs running 3.1.2 jailbroken. I want to update to 4.1 and jailbreak. So my question is, can i just update normally to 4.1 then use limera1n and jailbreak? or do u have to do anything else in particular? thanks in advance

If unlocking is important to you now or in the future you need to upgrade with tinyumbrella to keep your baseband. If you don't care about the unlock go ahead and upgrade to 4.1 and jb with limerain.

if you don't need to be unlocked, just update to 4.1 via itunes and use limera1n to jailbreak.
 
TU's baseband protection ONLY works with the iPhone 4, not the 3GS. Per the Dev Team, if you need an unlock, WAIT. PwnageTool is being updated.

Yes - unless you rely on a carrier unlock (UltraSn0w) in which case NO as the 4.1 firmware contains a new (non-unlockable) baseband update. In that case, you will need to wait for the new PwnageTool before updating. If you have no need or desire for an unlock, go ahead.

As I expected, given the changes Apple made with the A4 series devices and SHSH (separate ones for firmware/baseband updates)

The moral is if you have a 3G and need the unlock, DO NOT DO ANYTHING YET.

Edit: one more question, if i were to need ultrasn0w for the unlock on 4.1, how would i keep my old baseband using tinyumbrella?

You can't sorry didn't realize you said 3GS when I told you that but tinyumbrella only preserves baseband on iphone4. If you want to save the ability to unlock you need to wait for greenpoison to be released by the chronic dev team.
 
So i have been reading a lot on this whole "preserving baseband" for unlocking


I have an iPhone 4, it is on 4.1 and it CAME like that. To my knowledge nothing has been "Tiny Umbrella-ed" to preserve the base band.

Thus, simple question: Will I or will i NOT be able to eventually UNLOCK on 4.1? This with NO TU, no preserving anything or saving SHSH. I know the unlock isn't out yet, but this question is for those who received their iPhone 4 with 4.1 already.

Your baseband is already updated if it came with 4.1 so you have nothing to backup. Also shsh is to activate your phone and saving them is only beneficial if you ever upgrade and want to downgrade back to an earlier firmware version that is no longer being signed by apple. That and baseband are two completely different things. And you may or may not ever be able to unlock with the new baseband. Depends if they find an unlock for it or not

I'm not gonna post it again for you man it's been said 1000 times. If you want to jb either wait for gp or use tinyumbrella to preserve baseband. If your unlock is important idk why you would even mess with it just to get access to gamecenter. You can already get hdr photos without 4.1 so unless you really need gamecenter why not wait you aren't gonna be any better off upgrading and losing your unlock

That's why I was asking if this could just jailbreak 4.0.2, not upgrade to 4.1.

I was under the impression that I had to upgrade TO 4.1, given localboy's response.

So, will this jailbreak 4.0.2 then I don't have to worry about that whole baseband preservation?

No gotta update to 4.1 using tinyumbrella then jb with limerain.
 
so im tryna restore my iphone again to 4.0.2, i already HAVE 4.0.2, i just want to keep 4.0.2 and restore clean and use the jailbreak but the thing is .... i can't because im getting the 3194 error, so i guess the only options left is for me to either jailbreak it with 4.0.2 on my iphone right now with all my data on it or upgrade to 4.1 right ..? i do want to do a clean reinstall of 4.0.2 though. 🙁
 
Baseband question

What actually IS the baseband firmware?

By keeping the old baseband firmware (and the ability to unlock) are you missing out on any bug fixes in the NEW baseband firmware? Other then patching exploits are there any useful fixes in the updated baseband?

Do you have your SHSH blobs saved? If no, there is no way to restore to 4.0.2 anymore.

You can't upgrade to 4.1 and then go back to 4.0.2 unless you have shsh stored. You also can't jb on 4.0.2 you would have to upgrade to 4.1 then jb.

And no there are no benefits to baseband updates they just patch the ability to use unlocks.
