. I believe Apple only allows you to set up a maximum of 5 devices to one account, so you may need to disable the account on some devices temporarily if you have it enabled on more than 5 devices.

Unlimited, actually. 5 devices is for DRMed iTunes content.

IWork 11 needs Lion

That should be the obvious answer.
I really want a new iWork as well. Not sure what is taking them so long...other than the iWork team has been diverted to work on the iOS apps.

With iCloud though, iWork is supposed to manage documents in itself so it can sync across all the platforms, so maybe the new iWork will launch alongside that.
That is also reasonable!

Look at it this way, hopefully Apple is holding off so that they can wrap in enough goodies to make the upgrade worthwhile. Frankly I hear a lot of whining on the nets about the lack of an iWork upgrade but seldom an explanation. At least when people say they need feature xyz you understand where they are coming from. But this idea that an app is "stale" is pure BS. The feature set in iWorks is pretty darn good right now, better that they come out with a high value update.

Just downloaded the Migration Assistant update via software update. The description says something about migration assistant having issues transferring files from OS X leopard to OS X lion.

Edit: Just noticed that this already has a post. Sorry for not noticing earlier!

That depends totally upon you.

Still can't decide if its worth doing a clean install before updating, or just update to Lion like the vast majority of Mac users.

If you have a lot of cruft and unused apps laying around consider a clean install. If not just update.

If you're upgrading via downloading from the Mac App Store (which I think is the only way to get it) then you should only have to pay $30 to upgrade all 3. As long as you are capable of logging into your Apple account/iTunes account on all 3 computers that is. I believe Apple only allows you to set up a maximum of 5 devices to one account, so you may need to disable the account on some devices temporarily if you have it enabled on more than 5 devices.

There is no such limit. You can check Apple's terms and conditions yourself. It does not apply to apps, only to media

I agree but, if you save a file as a .doc or .docx you cannot just hit the "save" you have to "save as" and over write which is annoying. If iwork 11 solves that MS Office is done..for me

I, for one, am completely excited for the release and look forward to downloading it tomorrow. This has been such a sentimental month for me when it comes to Apple. From Final Cut X to downloadable system software, it feels just so 1999 to me.

It seems like only yesterday when I was ridiculed for ordering a "blue and white overpriced piece of crap" as my co-worker put it. The gall Apple had to release a "pro" series computer with no floppy drive. What could a user do with large (1.44Mb) files? Email them? And let's not forget USB. How ridiculous was it for Apple to use USB, an untested and expensive bus, for keyboards and mice. Speaking of "pro" applications, what about all the pro software that required a dongle to operate? No USB options there. And, duh, how could licensed software be validated without a floppy drive? Maybe Apple has never had the foresight to deal with Pro applications.

Even if the servers run slow tomorrow, or even stop working for a bit, I think that the concept of releasing a major software update via the web is just another example of Apple not moving ahead of the curve, but moving the whole effing curve.:)

I couldn't agree more. A very nice post. :)

I can't imagine an iWork upgrade that will solve your issue. You're exporting to a format that the application does not use natively.

Question: Why hasn't the iWork updates been released like the iLife 11 ones for Lion? New iWork perhaps?

So...in the past, how reliable has this 'Oppenheimer' guy been with his predictions? :p

Count me among those incredibly excited for Lion's release tomorrow. So much so, that I'm taking the day off work to setup and play with it! Actually, last week it became clear that Wednesday would be an ideal day to take off to take care of things around home and relax, so I just got really lucky that Lion's dropping tomorrow as well. Even if it takes hours to download though, I'm still really excited. There'll be bugs, but I'm not going to let it dampen the experience. There's plenty of exciting improvements that I'm too excited about using to worry about bugs and slow downloads.

And as if I didn't love my Magic Trackpad enough, I'll be head over heels tomorrow! I feel bad for my Magic Mouse, because it's the best mouse out there, but I've been using the Magic Trackpad 90% of the time or more since getting it. It's made the mouse feel archaic. Lion just might be the thing that sends my Magic Mouse from my desktop to my drawer.

I'm getting in line before all of you, me first!!! :) just kidding but i am glad my building has 95 MB/sec download speed

anyone know if we are going to able to purchase this on a CD, for those of us who like to do a fresh install instead of an upgrade?

Earlier today I installed Debian linux on a server by netbooting a small boot image and then it downloaded everything else I needed from a mirror to install.

Later I updated a machine from the previous full release of deb stable to the current one (the equivalent of SL --> Lion) completely over the web.

I've been doing this for years, it's not exactly a new idea from Apple. I love apple products, but please...

I wounder how many data centers they have working to keep things running smoothly. I know this might be a rough estimate, but aren't there gonna be almost 30 million downloads going at once? lol..

Strange marketing

I'm surprised it's not the main item on apple.com still. It's been iCloud for a while, which is still a ways off. Apple used to have a promotion for new versions of Mac OS X with a release date for some time before it came out in the past, I think. They could at least put coming tomorrow instead of coming in July in the box at the bottom of the homepage.

I think Mac OS X Lion coming out tomorrow is probably of more interest to the average user than iCloud coming in the fall, plus unlike iCloud, Lion will make Apple money now, plus users will need Lion for iCloud functionality on their Macs (for app integrated functionality, at least, from what I understand, excepting iTunes).

If only I had my MBP... stuck on a work trip with my Dell-book until August 1st. :(

On the brite side, I'll have lots of real user reviews of Lion to sift through to pass the time and gather insight on any issues while upgrading. Me thinks there will be no trouble simply doing an inplace upgrade, as I had success going from Tiger to Leopard, and then to Snow Leopard.

Not me. As soon as I can get to a high speed connection it is upgrade time.

Getting there may take awhile, as I broke my leg.
i had a problem with snow leopard and FAT32 file system it took few dot revisions to fix it.

so i am going to wait before upgrading my iMac.

anyone else?

For me it is no big deal to dive in early. The bugs that are sure to show up will not likely be a big problem. The good features though are very enticing, I actually like where Apple is going with Lion.
