Fair enough...

Earlier today I installed Debian linux on a server by netbooting a small boot image and then it downloaded everything else I needed from a mirror to install.

Later I updated a machine from the previous full release of deb stable to the current one (the equivalent of SL --> Lion) completely over the web.

I've been doing this for years, it's not exactly a new idea from Apple. I love apple products, but please...

Fair enough, but I think while your analogy matches the scope, it is dwarfed by scale. Lion is a mojor commercial release, and I don't think that this sort of update on this level of scale is something to scoff at.

To whoever was talking about iWork, they'll at least have to give it a minor update to support Lion; however, they haven't updated it in a while, so it will hopefully be iWork '11!

At this point it needs to be called iWork '12.

i had a problem with snow leopard and FAT32 file system it took few dot revisions to fix it.

so i am going to wait before upgrading my iMac.

anyone else?

You could always create a dual boot. (Instructions.) Also, if you want to see if your applications have been shown to run reliably on Lion, check here.

As for my office, I'll do the usual: install on a test machine and use it for a few weeks (typically two) until I'm satisfied. Move it to two other people and have them use it for a week. Finally, should all go well, I'll then push it to everyone else.

Good luck.

I'm sorry, how did this turn from a discussion over the release of OSX Lion into a debate over George W. Bush?

And people insulting other's countries for no reason. I like living in Britain (next to the world's second largest natural harbour, although the weather isn't the best :) ) and being British, however I don't like our government very much. Feel free to insult the government, just don't insult us please. We did nothing to you.

I don't get why everyone is so convinced this is going to be a disaster and slow down the entire internet. I for one doubt the average Mac user is champing at the bit to upgrade Lion on release day, considering the recent article about iPhone 4 owners thinking they have 4G. Most of them probably don't even know Lion is being released, or that it's an App Store-only purchase.
Not only that, but I'd imagine that an order of magnitude of p0rn is downloaded daily with out the net grinding to a halt.

I don't even have my Macbook Pro :(, I'm waiting for my replacement, that's shipping tomorrow....

Omgggg

Hello guys,

I just landed in Dubai International Airport, will lion be available here today? Or shall I not get my hopes up.

:confused::confused::confused:

However, Lion is being downloaded as well as all of this. It isn't as if the Internet is going to be used exclusively for Lion for the day.

I don't think there will be any problems with the internet anyway, just wanted to point that out. :)

Apple's servers however...

A lot of factors to contend with buddy. Your current time? How long are you staying in Dubai? It's likely to drop anytime from about 3 hours time onwards, so unfortunately it could well be a lottery for you

I just tried redeeming my Apple Gift Card, to apply towards Lion tomorrow, and it won't let me use it. So I can only use gift cards in their retail stores, but they're only releasing Lion through the App Store?

It's 04:15 am here now, heading to the hotel.. O I was waiting for lion so bad..

I've been going back and forth on this. While I like the idea of having the option to go portable, 95% of the time I'll be using it at home.

I've decided that if the Mac mini is reasonable more powerful than the MacBook Air I may lean towards that, but if they're about the same spec-wise then I'll probably go for the MacBook Air.

Macbook Air + New Cinema Display = the perfect combination! ;)

I hope they push out updates for it also, particularly a graphics update for the current Mac mini

Not only that, but I'd imagine that an order of magnitude of p0rn is downloaded daily with out the net grinding to a halt.

But porn (it's not a dirty word) is available from thousands upon thousands of sites. The 10.7 download is only available from one.

ps: I know about Akamai.

Perhaps you should consider waiting until you're back home to upgrade, just in case your system is one of the tiny fraction of systems that fail to upgrade. Flying around with no working computer is a big risk.
