Time to give Apple's servers a run-in. I've got my 100Mbit line ready :D

Same for me, I love using my universities internet and in the summer too since most students aren't on campus so its even faster. I've got speeds of 200mb/s before which is unheard of for most people

Looks like the Mac AppStore is about to get its first true load test. They've had heavy loads on their servers before, but of this magnitude?

It'll be really interesting to see how the new server farm copes with the almost biblical amount of traffic it's going to be experiencing.

Tomorrow's going to be exciting for the tech world on a whole as Apple attempts to break a few boundaries with this app store delivery. Hopefully no pie on their face, especially after a day of astonishing financial figures.

Is OSX lion $30 per download? I wondering since I have a 27 inch imac, 17 inch mbp, and a 11 inch mba. I will need to pay $90 to upgrade all three or can I use 1 license on all 3 machines?

I feel a major sense of relief. We finally know the ACTUAL release date. No more rumors, just facts. Thank God for facts. :)

So are the Airs being released tomorrow to?
I really hope they are...but no solid leaks/rumors as in pictures of pallets or anything.

I wonder how many others are going to be waiting due to being eligible for the up to date program. I wonder if it will be a long wait, I sure hope not. I'm almost half tempted to just buy it, I hope my self discipline skills are in check by tomorrow if not.

Because Apple is American..

We are living in a multinational globalised interconnected democratic free world etc.

Surely even one of the leading companies in the world can see that just because they are to the west of the GMT line doesn't mean they can stop a few of us having Lion a few hours before Gods Gift America. At least release it at the same time globally (this is what I think will happen)

Anyway it would only help reduce the concentration of downloads.

(I'm having a crappy day if you can't tell so sorry about all this anger)

I think this was discussed before...but is there going to be an option to do a 'fresh' install with some sort of media like a USB key (self made perhaps) right out of the box? Or, do we have to install SL and then update to Lion via the App Store process?

Also, do we know if physical media versions will be available in Retail Stores right away?

If you're upgrading via downloading from the Mac App Store (which I think is the only way to get it) then you should only have to pay $30 to upgrade all 3. As long as you are capable of logging into your Apple account/iTunes account on all 3 computers that is. I believe Apple only allows you to set up a maximum of 5 devices to one account, so you may need to disable the account on some devices temporarily if you have it enabled on more than 5 devices.

Ready for my download

I, for one, am completely excited for the release and look forward to downloading it tomorrow. This has been such a sentimental month for me when it comes to Apple. From Final Cut X to downloadable system software, it feels just so 1999 to me.

It seems like only yesterday when I was ridiculed for ordering a "blue and white overpriced piece of crap" as my co-worker put it. The gall Apple had to release a "pro" series computer with no floppy drive. What could a user do with large (1.44Mb) files? Email them? And let's not forget USB. How ridiculous was it for Apple to use USB, an untested and expensive bus, for keyboards and mice. Speaking of "pro" applications, what about all the pro software that required a dongle to operate? No USB options there. And, duh, how could licensed software be validated without a floppy drive? Maybe Apple has never had the foresight to deal with Pro applications.

Even if the servers run slow tomorrow, or even stop working for a bit, I think that the concept of releasing a major software update via the web is just another example of Apple not moving ahead of the curve, but moving the whole effing curve.:)

It just occurred to me that if Apple released an OS online, for free and did it two weeks before the date they promised, even they'd have to do something extra to make the experience different than what I'm used to.

Maybe if they released OS X 10.8 by hitting a switch and revealing that it had been embedded in 10.7 the whole time.
