I can burn it to a DVD instead of a flash drive though and the result will be the same as a flash drive right?

I should pick up another flash drive or two. I have my "huge" 8 GB one devoted to my Windows 7 installer image.

Then again I might be reverted to Slow Leopard.

Dude, that was just bad.

It's Microsloth and Winblows.

No, it is crApple. Oh, I am sorry! Wrong forum.

I am not too excited about Lion. It is not as if it were W8. I am sorry wrong forum again!!

How is Mac OS on launch day in general? Is it safe to grab it right away? This is the first time I'm going to be experiencing a new OS launch as a Mac user so I really have no idea.. though I am skeptical given the failure that was FCPX.

I'm hearing lots of people with GM saying that it's still fairly buggy and I've got a ton of work to do so I don't want to compromise that.. any suggestions?

This is most likely late.. But if you have mission critical work, DON"T install Lion. You have no idea how Lion will work on your machine and mess up your work. You should finish your work, backup your drive then install Lion.

It's usually fine.

The GM is fine for general day to day use.

There are no showstoppers. I've been using it the way the average user would since the GM was released. It's good to go.

I'm really surprised wouldn't suggest backing up his work/hard drive first. :/

anyone know if we are going to able to purchase this on a CD, for those of us who like to do a fresh install instead of an upgrade?

There will be no DVD at the store to buy, you can only download it from the Mac App Store which you have to have Snow Leopard install to do. If they haven't changed it, you can make a backup disk of the installer and do a clean install. That is if they haven't changed it that is.

No! It's not just a OS update is THE update as every major update is THE update...
The difference between Apple and Microsuffer... I'm wondering if people get excited like this for Windowns updates...

Ever hear of Windows launch parties?

Haha yeah dude a Windows Launch Party is when a couple of guys sit around the new computer expectantly and with great anticipation, having bootlegged some cutting edge copy of Windows.. start it up, revel in their op easing speed glory.. And then "error: system has performed an illegal operation and will has been shut down."

Yay!!! More useless features and incompatibility problems... Just what we need!

You forgot same old bugs! (NVDA Timeout, USB Transaction timeouts, Timesucking Machine beachballing the whole system, Safari leaking memory etc.)

Is this going to be released on a country by country basis or simultaneously worldwide? I assumed the latter.

Also, given the current favourable exchange rate, why do Australians pay more for an electronic release? i could understand if there was some sort of packaging and shipment involved! Sounds like someone is being greedy!

Does anyone know how long it will take from registering for the up-to-date program to getting access to it in the App Store?

I've always found crApple to be quite clever. You can't really do that with the others.

I'm fairly new at this Apple stuff...so tomorrow I download Lion, burn it on a blank dvd and boot up with that dvd in the drive?

Just to verify. I have SL on my hd now installed as the only OS. Now if I burnt the DVD would I be able to format the hd and do a fresh reinstall or do I have to have SL installed and NOT format in order to install Lion?

Just today I burned the GM image to a flash drive and booted the computer with it. I used the disk utility to erase the hard drive and Lion installed clean just fine.

I assume the final release will be exactly the same.

This method is ideal.

No, you just open the Mac AppStore, click on the price which will be "24.99$", wait till it's downloaded and follow the instructions.

What do you think about Lion updates? Would Apple still release combo or update like they do with previous gen OSX? Or will us have to download 4GB all over again for updates? You know once an apps on MAS or iTunes store being updated, we just have to download the apps all over again, not like we only download only the patch or something.

Will the same thing happens to Lion, as Lion can be considered as an "app" from Mac AppStore?

No, you should click "edit post", then add "then they cry".

Don't click "post reply", and add "then they cry".

You download Lion and just run the installer. No disc is needed. If you want to do a "clean install" you will need to either burn the disc (which is quicker but takes more advanced skills) or hold the Option key when the computer boots up. Select the recovery partition, then use the disk utility to erase the hard drive and then continue with the install that's on the recovery partition. This method requires the OS to be downloaded again with your Apple ID, which it does completely seamlessly in the background. I mention this only in case you have a really slow/expensive connection.

Nothing new as far as hardware goes for tonight's Visual Set. That has been confirmed through my own eyes....
