What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

YES!!! I am typing this from my new (and first) Mac. I went to the Apple Store in town. They did not update the floor models yet, but were in the process of opening up the new stock in the back room. So, once they found the 15" mid level with matte screen, I made the purchase. I decided to go with the Apple care, not originally in my budget, but from what I've read hear on the forums, it is worth the extra $350.
Now I get to learn how to make this thing dual boot with XP pro so that I can use if for work. (Windows products had to run on the computer for me to take advantage of cool benefit from work.)

Congrats everyone! Enjoy your new toys.

not to rain on anyone's parade but here is my theory behind buying :apple: refurbished, in one sentence:

ever wonder what they do w/ their massive in store displays that have been ON for months, all day long, and touched by many?

just something to think about~

i used to love deals on refurbished items, not just apple but any brand, until they started dying on me sooner...

so I buy New and don't buy extra care stuff... it just works out fine for me.

but this is just me.:D
wtf, ended writing more than a sentence:D

oh! i better run off, here comes "apple" employees-being pretentious and bash on this post!

GENIOUS IDEA :p

OK, you can update me on the list! I have ordered mine online! ;)

Here's a screenshot of the order details of my upcoming 17'' LED HR MBP =)

Everything in that order BUT the MBP has been shipped!! That will suck and make the wait feel longer!!!! (I'll have the backpack but not the notebook... arghhh lol Beter than not knowing when it would come out, right?;)

I would suggest you guys post your order info (not necessarily a screenshot, can be text) here so we can add up the values of each order and figure out how much Apple made just with ppl that were on the list! :)

Would be interesting to see that, right? ;)

Congrats to your first Mac!!!!!!!!! :)

You can buy Applecare anytime in the first 12 months ;) certainly not an essential purchase on day one as you are covered for the first year anyway. Might want to return that if you can, until you need it!

FYI:

If you're a business owner you might have a chance to save 5% on your order if you order by phone. The guy who took my order gave me a 5% discount on my 2.5ghz, 17" hi-res, 200GB 7200RPM Macbook pro. Total came out to $2820.00 Not bad!

Yay!!!! I can finally have a new laptop. (As I was placing the order on my 5 yr old Inspiron last night, the keyboard stopped working!!! - the letters were typing up as numbers.)

Interesting that the Part No. is "Zoey". It's so cute! I think I will call my new MBP: Zoey (shut up if u think i'm lame!!!)

Not that it matters much as you're getting a new MBP, but you should check to see if you accidently activated a numbers lock on your keyboard. If so, one click will fix it.

For now I am waiting....

I am happy with yesterdays update so I am ready to buy! Other than the case redesign 'I got' what I was waiting for.... more VRAM, LED 17", faster processor, $200 CAD price drop and the multi-touch was a nice bonus.

Now I just have to wait for my boss to give his thumbs up again. In December he said buy!!! but now I have to resubmit my request.

So my order will be the 17" Macbook Pro HighRes.

BTW. I went to the Apple store yesterday to place my order online. Why? you say: Well I had a stash of Apple gift cards, a good amount of cash I also had stashed and the remaining balance to put on credit. Luis was able to help me out by combining all my different tender into one gift card. The store had a $100 off a printer deal when buying a new computer but I already had a fairly new printer. "I'm sure you'll be able to apply that discount to something else," says I. "let me check, " responds Luis. Indeed $110 off my Applecare. Also I went ahead and bought my .mac membership now instead of renewing in August and saved $30. No I'm not missing out on months as I can install it in August when I normally would pay $99.00. I still have $10.00 left on my gift card. I'm very pleased with my purchase and the wait is finally over. I will somehow miss the bemoaning companionship of the waiting room but alas I shall roam other forums now at top speed.

Any reason any of you guys chose a BASE MBP over the midrange MB (roughly same specs, minus the slight HDD bump and Graphics)?

I'm having a tough time choosing which computer to go with...

It all comes down on what you are going to use it for. If it's anything graphic intensive, such as photoshop, video editing, and or you're planing to run Windows and play Crysis, then you would want the mid range.

The main different is the VRAM, 256MB on the base, 512 on the mid and high. As for 2.4 vs 2.5? I don't think that will make a whole lot of differences. But if you want to plunk down another $250 for the 2.6 then you might "feel" some difference. That's how I see it. Would like to hear what others think.

I brought the base model with no upgrade at all (can't justify the $500 differences for 256MB VRAM and 0.1 GHz gain). Will put in a bigger drive once I run out of space but that would be like a year later so price of HD will be dirt cheap or even SSD would be feasible. Put in 4GB Crossair RAM ( <$100 after tax) already and it runs!

BTW if you are a student make sure you use your student discount, not only you get discount on the hardware, you also get $110 off Apple care ($349 - $110 = $239 )! I didn't know until I was in the Apple store paying for my package!

Wasn't aware of this additional discount....................................

I'm gonna go ahead and say that the bump in the summer to Centrino 2 does not seem as appealing as getting a SR-Penryn MBP now. Apparently all that will really change is WiMax support and a faster FSB, but I cannot justify waiting any longer for such a change. I need the laptop for August, and if I waited and they were delayed till August I would have had to buy a current-model MBP anyways. Too bad there's no magnetic latch, but I guess it's just safer this way anyways.
I'm really glad for the performance boost, battery life boost, cooler chip, and better graphics VRAM. And, also important: multitouch! I don't know if anything else got updated, but I'll be glad to have a very new computer!

BTW: The matte screen is better when you're in the sun, correct? I live in Florida, so the sun is beast and I will need to be able to see the screen and not get blinded by a reflection of the sun :D
