Lets say I buy this, then in at WWDC, they release a brand new shiny design that includes everything youd want to give up your first born for.
Apple return policy is 14 days (not business days) from the recipt and a 10% stocking fee.

intel is having problems with the penryn chips, which has caused intel to delay the shipping dates. Yes there are penryn chips available (xeon & a quad core2) but try to find one to buy. Apple can't update the MBP until the new chips are shipping in volume. Don't hold your breath for anything more than new processors, larger harddrive, MT, and maybe a new graphics card. The major update might come when intel releases the montevina chipset, in May. But more likely it will come with the release of nehalem. Nehalem is a new microarchitecture, replacing the core microarchitecture which the penryn chips still use, as well as the code name for the chips that will replace penryn. Nehalem chips will use less power and thus produce less heat, this will allow apple to create a new case design for mb, mbp. why would apple to a major redesign now and then have to do one when nehalem comes out, scheduled for second half 2008.

I didnt mean return, I said sell, as in ebay.
Waiting two weeks or for a refresh (whichever comes first) to get a 15" MBP, but the Mac Pro is coming Monday.
uh,
1.) Mac Pro came out on the 8th. I think you mean the MacBook Pro.
2.) Apple will be closed on Monday so I highly doubt they will announce a laptop on the day they are closed for normal operations. But I do hope they release it on Tuesday.
I think he means that the Mac Pro he's already ordered will arrive on monday.![]()
You could very easily sell it on ebay. It would probably go for about 200~300$ less than you paid though.
Thats not too bad. I wasn't sure what the depreciation on a macbook is like. What if I bought applecare? Does that go with the laptop when I sell it, or would it have to be transferred to a different name or some such, if thats possible?
I'm in the same boat - was going to get one until I saw this forum. It doesn't help that the buyer's guide here at macrumors say "Don't buy - Updates soon."
Anyway, I don't need any real boost in performance. I'll probably just get the 2.2ghz model with a larger hard drive. I'm just hoping that the update will drop the price for this, or give me more for the same price.
"Waiting, waiting, waiting
waiting, waiting, waiting
waiting for you to come along..."
The Doors
I decided on getting a Mac laptop for college in November. School started January 14th, so it was a no-brainer to hold off just in case there was an update. Yes, I would have loved to see a penryn processor, or any other minor changes, but I was just as ready to by the "old" version if it seemed a new one would be bug prone. The lack of update doesn't diminish the quality of the MBP at all, it just isn't quite as cutting edge this second as I hoped - not that it would stay that way for long even with a fresh update.
Got it as a student for $1599 plus the cost of an ADC student membership of $99. Bought 4gb of OCZ pc2 6400 ram for it, $85 - backwards compatible, plus if for some reason I end up with the next version of the MBP down the road it's ready for the next chipset. Plus it was $5 cheaper than Kingston pc5300
All in all, quite ready to have this laptop! For all of you wanting one - I wouldn't be listening to those people telling you of the next update right around the corner. Maybe there is, maybe there isn't, but they certainly don't know any better than you doWorst case scenario.. you get a laptop you love, and the latest and greatest surpasses it a month later rather than 3 months later.
(just a little pinch of hope for those of you that're waiting for an update):
I have a friend that works at a Big Blue retailer - according to their inventory system, three new sku/upc's exist for the macbook pro, and will evidently be on planogram (be displayed on the floor) on or before 2/10/2008. And the three skus would logically be the 2 15" stock configurations, and the 17" MBP. Since i'm one of the people waiting for the update to buy a macbook pro, this is good news!
