What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

Boot Camp is not virtualization

From what I've heard, playing games on a virtuallized Windows (i.e. Boot Camp/Parallels) is hard work riddled with flaws. Then again, I've never tried, so can anyone clear this up?

Boot camp isn't virtualized. Parallels/VMWare, yes, there are issues. Not really a gaming solution in my opinion.

But booting into Windows via Bootcamp is just like loading Windows on any normal PC, and thus performance is a factor of Process, GPU, Ram and HD. The MacBook Pro is a decent gaming machine in Windows by most standards. Though, as you can imagine, opinions vary wildly on that subject.

Which is the route to go?

So...I'm getting a MBP for making my documentary for National History Day...and I'm justifying buying the mid range one for the up'ed graphics card so I can have the power for games (AOE III and Sim City 4) through Parallels and Windows...is this not a good idea? Or should I up the HD and partition the drive for that purpose? I'm new to mac and this will be my first one. AND FOR GOD SAKES APPLE, JUST RELEASE THE DARN THING! *Insert Deep Breath Here*

I hate waiting, What do people want to see in the new MBP? Hopefully They will make them in colors but with the metal I would get Pink:)

Hmm, what would I _want_ to see....
I'd like to keep the current mpb keyboard, have magnets to keep it closed rather than a latch, multi touch trackpad.. A solid state disk would be sweet but it would also be very, very expensive... I'll probably upgrade that myself when they are cheaper.
Hmm pretty much what everyone said already, I have such bad fantasy this evening (yes, it's evening here in Sweden :p).

I'd be surprised if they released their PRO-models in different colours. A pink would be quite cute ^_^
I guess black aluminium would be kind of cool (ooo stealthy MacBook Ninja).

Surprise me !

The waiting.... It's good that I just got into Warhammer Online beta so I have something to keep me entertained while waiting. Or so it would seem, the fact is that I need the new MBP to play it on... Damn you :apple: with oyur secrecy and never announcing upgrades. Oh well, back to work :).

Humbly kneeling for a true convincing:

my scale does not have the slightest clue as to where to lean:

New MBP revision
or
New MBA that is so hard to get a hold of

and if anyone says, again, what are you going to use it for?... heard that~
it's more like why do (you) want MBP or MBA? Design/Spec/Price/etc,etc... Anyone care to list?

thx

Is it fun at all? I've got a couple of friends who played WoW alot and they left it for various reasons (mostly because raiding is retarded, I joined them later for a short time we all ended up twinking instead and it was amazing fun).

But yeah, they're looking forward to Age of Conan.

Wow, I learn something new about Mac's every day :D

Does anyone have any rumor or idea what might be the price of new mbp ? Might they start from 1.999$ like the ones now ?

That Sony laptop, when configured, is still very cheap.
Price cuts, Apple?
:)

That laptop has a weak video card, but that's ok. Have a look at the other models like the AR series!

It's ridiculous how cheap they are even including a 17" screen!

I'm a little bit concerned about the Blu-ray thing.
What I've been told is that it has to be a Monitoring system built into the OS that is constantly checking so that blu-ray movies etc are valid or something (DRM)..
Vista seems to have this..
I don't want to se OS X bloated with this... Anyone knows anything about this?

I hope I'm wrong. If I am, I wouldn't mind a blu-ray player in my MBP :)

edit:
I've read about this somewhere... Wonder if it was ars technica....

The Non-disclosure agreement doesn't allow me to talk in detail about it, but I'll say this, it is awesome.

I recommend you subscribe to video podcast Warhammer Age of Reckoning through iTunes. These podcasts are great fun to watch and they explain the mechanics of the game.

The thing about it is that it is very PvP centric game, but you'll know what I mean after watching those podcasts.

Anyways, back on topic. Is this tuesday gonna be the day our wishes come true?

If those vaios had a better video card (it's even lower than the already sub-par 8600) I would be so temtped to order one right now :(

There are other models to choose from, with much better specs and much lower prices than apple.

Besides that, it's still a wait until Feb 19... Might as well see what apple has to offer.

Oh, and my experience has taught me to avoid any with the word Vaio on it... Thanks to some idle time spent in the land of the rising sun.

You have to be very careful with Sony. Their support is some of the worst in the US.

Course, I'm starting to lean toward something not Apple and make a Hackintosh. Their MBP is so overpriced and they dent so easy it drives me crazy. My wife has a 17" and she takes amazing care of it but it still has dents all over the place.

I'd get a MB but the screen is so crappy that I wouldn't be able to take it. Meh, I just don't know what to do!

So, february 12th, 10 more days. What do you think, is it for real this time? I sure hope so but somehow I still think february 19th or 26th sounds like a safer bet. :(

Personally I don't think SJ will want to get iPhone/iPod touch SDK event with MBP update because there is no similarity one is spftware related and the other is hardware

If SDK is indeed in February sometime(although I haven't heard about specific dates yet ) i doubt MBP update will be in second half of feb. I think if it does not come outnin first two weeks there is some problem with this new MBP or the update will not be happening till may

Hey I know we all want our updated MBP...I mean I am lamenting with the rest of you. I can only hope the hold up is because Apple wants to get this right. I hope we have put enough pressure on them that they are going to deliver us a stellar, no flaws or bugs, update that is worthy of the long, long, seemingly endless wait. They know they pushed aside the pro's for the MBA deadline so they had better deliver. Even if it is pushed back to March we can only hope they have made the wait worthwhile. And they better not come out with some new flashy design upgrade, with all the works, including Blu ray(which I don't think will happen with this next upgrade) in the fall after we have all bought this upcomingMBP . Not that I could do anything about it but they better not Damnit!
