MBP custom order on Apple store of several countries have now an estimated ship of 3-5 business days (USA,...) or 5 business days (Australian, France, Ireland) !

The new MBP is going to come very very soon...

4-6 for Aus shop (this applies to iMac and Macbooks as well). Same story at Singapore shop.

Seems unlikely that iMacs and Macbooks gonna get updates altogether, maybe stores are just busy for MBA arrivals??

Maybe not… What if they want to incorporate the new "touchpad" in the MacBook as well? Because the sales of them would probably drop if they were the only one without, right? :)

And the iMac is due for an update (see the Buyer's Guide)…*(and please don't come talking about there not being an update because the Aluminum model is new! We're talking about bumping the specs, NOT new case design! … *not directed at you Wolvngelz) ;)

I know that no-one can answer this for sure, but:-

1. Will the current MBP RAM be the same as the new Penryn?
2. Are we seriously expecting a GPU update?
3. How much are we expecting the entry level clockspeed to go up?

I know it's only speculation, but opinions would be still helpful ;)

1. - Yes. Ram stays the same after the revision.
2. - No. The GPU will be the same. Maybe an incrase in vram on the minor 15.4" setup til 256. (but i really doubt it)
3. - 5-10% increse on all MBP-models.

Purely speculative though... this is just my thoughts

I'm reading all these rumors that this summer there'd be a "major" update on the MBP. If I get my first mac this March, a MBP and I'd be happy if it were this update we are talking about (penryn etc), I'd be pretty bummed if it were updated "majorly" in just 2 months or something.

I'm retiring in June and have to give back my MB 2.0 Core Duo at that time. I will be purchasing a new MBP in April or May and hope it is a newer model than what is current at this time, even though what is current is a heck of a computer.

Please add me to the list.

I'm probably buying a MBP at the beginning of March to replace my power hungry 2.8 GHz Pentium D System and my CoreDuo MacBook.

I hope that the new MBPs will be released in the next two weeks, because I hope that by the time I want to buy the first rush on the new books is over.

How long would the MBP ship after the release? Are we talking weeks, days? It would be great if they have been silently waiting for enough stock, then they release it and ship the next day.

The shipping times are impossible to tell at this point, because no one knows if Apple fills its stocks before release or if every book ships directly from manufacturing.

Normally when Apple do silent updates, the products tend to be delivering within 3-5 days (as normally would be with custom builds).

to all those redesign naysayers

I think some degree of redesign is inevitable becuase Apple seemed to have changed their base design since the introduction of new iMac.

Trend seems to be metal finish and black and silver contrast. Also curvy design seems to be manifesting. (Note that this base design is also in new iPod range too.)

Another trend that I note is fiscally expensive products tend to have black and silver combination(iPod touch and classic also iMac ) and more colourful on cheaper or relatively short life time product(other iPod range). Probably due to the fact that certain colour goes in and out of fashion quickly and in relatively short life cycle product this does not matter too much

Anyway looking at this, I say it is about time for a change.
We also know that Apple tends to put more importance on consitnacy in design over chipset or platform change as we all have witnessed in transition from PowerBook to core duo; I think adding camera is hardly a redesign). To Apple, Montevina simply means some speed bump as they are unlikely to implement WAN or any 3G.
What about space saving? Well assuming they don't bring small package design like in MBA deal with Apple(which is more likely), they can probably put better graphic next time or battery increase or weight reduction with this space saved.

Someone may say what about macpro. IMHO this is probably because macpro is already somewhat curvy and has black and silver contrast achieved through the cheese grater design

*strums fingers

I suppose I could buy a Sony... or an HP PC

.. I could still run Vectorworks and Sketchup on it...

My "new" 12.1" PowerBook just arrived and I love it except the screen just randomly went black :|
And the Americans have their keys in the wrong place!
But otherwise it's fine; how I love that pulsing Apple.
:apple:

I'm in. Hoping for a 15" with multi-touch track pad and the MBA style keyboard. No need to change anything else IMHO except the requisite speed bumps.

Right, tomorrow is "super-tuesday" (at least in the US), is it finally time for a MBP update?

Btw, just had a thought, World Mobile Congress is up in Barcelona february 11-14. Rumors are that Apple will present iPhone for Spain and Italy during those days. If tuesday is the "regular" day, february 12th in this case, then i guess Steve can't be both there and somewhere else presenting the new MBPs! Or maybe it's just a silent one?

So, I guess it's either tomorrow or 19th for the MBP release?

Although the new iMacs have the black and aluminum contrast, the Macbook doesn't, the ipod classics don't, the ipod nanos don't, (The ipod classic and nano have white and color contrast, but that's different) the mac mini doesn't, and the MacPro doesn't! I hope and pray that the MBP doesn't go to a black edged screen like the iMac or I'm going to freak out! :eek:I HATE the look of the new iMacs! They are SO UGLY!
And I do think somewhat of a redesign is enevitable but not a smoother case. I think that's a macbook air thing. If everything about the macbookpro became like the air, no one would buy the air and apple would lose money.
I think the most likely updates to the frame would be the new touchpad, possibly a macbook styled keyboard, and the one I care about most: the macbook's magnetic latch! :D
i wouldn't mind them removing the tacky plastic edging either and making the MBP's edges like the MB's. But I still don't think we'll see a dramatic change to the line, due to the fact that this is a silent update. A new design would be a big deal and I believe will probably come with MWDC or later.
