I've been reading this forum for a while, but never registered.
Just so you know - I so want a new MBP I finally joined the site just so I could post this message telling you how much I want one!

Ya, I spent a long time reading these before finally deciding to get into the discussion as well.

Well, I'm signing off the 'net for tonight. Here's to new MBP's tommorrow.

'Course I doubt there will be. Oh well, I'll check back in the morning. I'd suggest you all not get your hopes up though.

yikes

I think some degree of redesign I'd inevitable I say this becuase apple seemed to have changed their base design since the introduction of new iMac. Trend seems to be metal finish and black and silver contrast. also curvy design seems to be manifesting. Such designbase is also seen in new iPod range too.

Another trend that I note is fiscally expensive tend to have black and silver combination(iPod touch and classic also iMac ) and more colourful on cheaper or relatively short life time product(other iPod range). This is probably due to the fact that certain colour goes in and out of fashion quickly.

Anyway following this trend it is time for a change. Apple tends to put more importance on consitnacy in design base over chipset platform change as we all have witnessed in transition from PowerBook to core duo.(I think adding camera is hardly a redesign). Montevina to apple simply means some speed bump anyway as they are unlikely to implement WAN or any 3G. Space saving? Well if they don't bring this technology in this update like in MBA deal with Apple, they can probably put better graphic next time with this space saved or battery increase or weight reduction

Someone may say what about macpro. IMHO this is probably because macpro is already somewhat curvy and has black and silver contrast achieved through the cheese grater design

Yikes! If you are going to use big words please at least use a spell checker! And maybe some good grammar. I don't mean to be rude but reading this was painful!

I am going to plonked down and order one if by tomorrow there is no updates from Apple.

I ordered the Mac Pro on Jan 16, and it won't shipped till Feb 22, and arriving on Feb 28. So I am going to get something that i can use to edit HD on the road.

I think you'd be able to measure those pixels with a ruler

MBPs coming out in February because of Nvidia

I decided after the new iMac updates that I would wait for the next MBP revision. I needed something that was portable, since I'm selling my old laptop, to my roommate, to help fund it. I thought long and hard about if the iPhone would give me enough portability, and it wasn't enough. I decided I would buy a 24" monitor to go along with it.

So add me to the list.

15" MBP, 200gb or higher 7200rpm, user installed 4gb ram, and hopefully at least 256mb graphics memory...Geforce 9 series? I also wish they would offer a higher resolution display...like at least 1680x1050. Maybe a slightly larger multitouch trackpad than the MBA? Gunmetal black aluminum too with mag-latch. 10.5.2. Perfect.

I also said, I believe before Macworld, that the MBPs would be released in February. My reasoning is that Nvidia is releasing the 9xxx series chips, with an ETA of "February". According to Wikipedia, the mid-range geforce 9600 series will have 256mb of memory. The top end 9800, from what I understand, has dual graphics chips, for what could be effectively SLI in one card. Probably won't see that one in the MBP, but it would be amazing. Not sure how all this would scale to the Geforce Go series, but if the minimum is 256mb for the 9600, perhaps to differentiate between the higher end model they could bump it up to 512mb. What do you guys think?

lol English is not my first language and writing on iPod Touch didn't help either( you know how they automatically change to sth else when don;t want it to)... See if my English improves when I get new MBP(Probably not...)

Update: I proofread it and yes it was horrible. I say it was combination early morning sydnrome plus small(small for typing not small for video) screen size of iPod touch which makes it hard to proofread and also hard to see if I am constructing my arguments properly.

This waiting is becoming unbearable, and Im joining the ranks of the first time posters here, just to add my 5 cents

Firstly I wanted to ask if anyone had the 17"mbpro model before and carried it around once in a while (once or twice a week) or it would be a better choice to go with a 15" model (I have a 24" lcd to go along with it either way) ? Ive been waiting for it since June-July 2007, but with Vista being such an excellent operating system and ubuntu about a year away where I want it to be I definitely want to give OSX a go and want to start with top of the line mbpro. Hopefully they gonna throw in an SSD drive option, HD screen, gunmetal aluminum case would be uber sweet, magnetic snatch :D, multi touch pad, 512 video card and a few other surprising goodies.

If apple will deliver anything close to that list, the new mbpro will be the best laptop on the market and I cant wait to get my hands on it :D

Cheers Everyone!

EDIT: P.S. What do you guys think about SSD prices falling rapidly? Do you think apple might want to delay the release till the prices stabilize more or less in order to price mbpro around its usual range...say till March or so?

SSD's of an appropriate size for a production platform are not going to be in the senisble cost bracket for 12 months or more. Certainly no point in waiting for that.

good point, but what about if they use some 64GB ssd like with air, I wonder how it performance will be compared to some 7200rpm drive. By performance I mean opening and using apps, do the daily work, and not necessarily only the boot up time of the OS.

I'm weakening

the S$99 offer for 4Gb of RAM is still going on on the current MBP. That's a huge saving over the normal price.

I'm getting close to trigger pulling time, if it doesn't come out today .. aarrggg

OMG the store is down.... I almost didnt believe it when I woke up this morning and checked it! Screw the iphone. a new model is worthless unless its 3g or better ( on a good network like verizon) New MacBook Pros!!!

Which is dumb! We knew about the performance of the SSD why weren't we developing it earlier?

My understanding is that they are releasing the desktop 9 series cards this month and that the mobile versions will be months away. The mobile versions of the 8600 GT that are in the current MBP's were developed and released by NVidia over a year after the desktop version was released. And the be fair to them, getting the desktop cards out is much more important than the mobile versions. NVidia's overall success is driven by the PC gaming market. Portable cards are a nice extra revenue stream but not their main game.

Most likely upgrades for the new MBP's would have to be increasing the RAM in the existing 8600M GT's to perhaps 256/512 on the two 15" versions and maybe offering the 8800M GT as a high end option on the 17".

Like everyone else, I'm waiting with crossed everythings!

Well, I've got my current MacBook Pro but I'll upgrade as soon as there's a design change for stuff like the magnetic latch and so on. Probably come summer.

Im definitely getting the updated version as soon as it comes out, hopefully right about NOW :D
