What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

Without a doubt Apple will update to Penryn and they wont skip to the next gen Intel CPU like some people have said. They have stopped refurbs in the UK, so i would image that it's going to happen at the latest by the end of Feb.

Just hold tight, i know it's hard!

Wow, can anyone confirm if they have stoped refurbs in the US? That surely has to be a big sign? Mayby.. Haha

Does anyone know why they haven't gone to a magnetic latch on the MBPs yet? It seems like the best way to do it...

The last few pages haven't been given an updated list of people who are waiting for a MacBook Pro. When will the revised list be published?

Btw: I'm also waiting (been shut out of list 3 times)

Off-topic Dell Question

So, I just noticed that Dell has released their notebooks with Penryn, starting with the XPS models. The M1330 has Penryn now. The M1530 has Penryn now.

BUT.

The (product)RED M1330 is the ONLY XPS in that line that doesn't have Penryn!

I know this is off topic, but my fiancee and I have two computer purchases that will be coming in the next couple years.

1) I'll be getting a MBP. (When they decide to get their act together with Penryn.)
2) We'll be replacing her Dell beast with a new dell notebook.

I know that no one likes Dell here, but she loves hers. And it has been great for her. She's had it for nearly 5 years and it still gets great battery life. So, we're gonna keep one PC machine for the heck of it and get her that for her photography. It'll be a good traveling machine for her. BUT. We're been supporters of (product)RED and the fact that Dell is now making RED computers, we want to support that even more.

All in all, why the heck would they leave Penryn out of ONE model in the line?!

Oh yeah. And I NOW have the funds for my MBP. So, Penryn and Multi-touch, hurry up. This Toshiba M45-S265 an average of 45 minutes of battery is just DYING! COME ON MBP!

They have stopped refurbs in the UK

Really? How did I order a refurb 2.2 MBP on Tuesday, have it arrive on Wednesday and be using it today then?

As of now, there are three lines of MBP's on the UK refurb store available. There was one the same as mine earlier today, but it's gone.

PCconnection.com $150 Mfr. REBATE!

I was searching for the best price on a MBP and stumbled accross pcconnection.com. They have a Manufacturers rebate offer on the MacBook Pros for $150. Offer ends on Friday, Feb. 29. Would this apply to NEW MBP's if they came out before then?

http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Rebate/Detail.htm?Sku=7586198#Rebate14344

Unimportant, but the place to send the rebate info is White Bear Lake, MN... only about 20 minutes north of me. ;)

I'm aware of this and I'm very sorry, but the list of things for me to do at the moment seems endless, and unfortunately this, generally speaking, is demoted to the end.

I'll strive to do it when possible, though.

On a side note; has anyone had their battery replaced by Apple? My PowerBook's is eligible but it says it'll take between 7 and 9 working days; has anyone received one quicker? It's just that I'm going abroad in 9 days' time.

My gf just had her macbook battery replaced a couple weeks ago. If you can make it into the store, they'll do it right there for you. Otherwise, they say 7 to 9 days - it's usually faster.

However, it is a PAIN to try and convince them to give you a new one - they'll have you run your battery through a million tests before they finally cough up a battery

Thanks for that, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

I'm glad to see that people are still eager for the MBP update, the last time I checked, this thread has over 55 000 hits :)

I wouldn't get your hopes up about getting your rebate check in less than about 8 weeks, even if the the rebate center was right across the street from you :)

February 29th you say? Is there a past precedent (redundancy alert!) of the rebate expiration date coinciding with the actual release/announcement of the next MBP model?

EDIT: Just downloaded the rebate form and it looks like it's not an Apple (manufacturer) rebate -- it's MacConnection's own rebate. I don't think they would know the release date that far in advance. All it probably means is that the MBPs are not selling well right now and they want to push the inventory out the door in anticipation of the new ones. They're probably guessing just like the rest of us.

I'm about tired of waiting and just about to order a 15" MBP. Must keep holding on!

Might bit the bullet and go for the current model with the upgraded 2.6 processor. Getting tired of waiting, and if there is no design change then WTF. Might as well settle for the mediocrity and overpriced hardware. :(

There are days that I wish I could work with Windows so I could have the wide world of hardware opened up to me. Every type of machine I could ever dream for would be in my grasp.

I am new to this site but just wanted to get my name on the MBP list. I really hope that they release a smaller version (ala titanium 12" powerbook) with multitouch. Apple had better hurry up though, otherwise I may find myself with a MBA soon! :)

I would probably go with the MBA if you can stomach the lack of ports. I hear it's actually quite fast even with that tiny slow HDD.

You mean they'll miss out on a MBP, but they'll gain a potentially more-expensive MBA?
:p

Yeah those geniuses at Apple have it all figured out I guess :)

I don't mind the lack of ports...but the lack of drive bothers me. I wouldn't mind storing the movies on the HDD...if it weren't a measly 80 GB.

It doesn't look like they've stopped MBP refurbs in the US. There are plenty in the Apple Store right now. However, maybe they've been in there before and I just missed it, but this is the first time I've seen the 2.6GHz models in the refurb store.

I had my MB battery exchanged a few weeks ago. It took only two business days for it to get delivered to my door. Then I sent the old one back.

Went for the MBA

I had been waiting for a MBP update, and ideally a 13" MBP, to replace my 12" G4 PowerBook. My laptop is a second computer that I use primarily when I travel, either for business or for pleasure. That being the case, the more I thought about the MBA, the more it made sense for me. The form factor was perfect: larger (and brighter) screen than my PowerBook, yet the computer weighs 1 1/2 lbs. less! I never use what the MBA doesn't have in terms of ports and even processing power: my MacPro handles all the heavy lifting. When I realized how light and compact the external optical drive is, that was it for me: I can't imagine needing to carry it along, but if I do it's about like carrying 2 cd jewel cases. That's it!

I got lucky last Friday and snagged a 1.8 SSD at the SoHo NYC Apple store, so I've had it almost a week now. I must say, it is a joy in every way. Excel, Word, Safari and Mail are all as fast on this machine as they are on my MacPro, and that's generally what I use my laptop for. The occasional downloading of photos during vacation will be better than my PowerBook was.

I love the keyboard, really love the screen, and the multiTouch keypad is spectacular. Another somewhat unexpected bonus is the upgraded built in iSight camera. I use video iChat extensively, and the image from this camera has been significantly better than the one mounted on top my my Cinema Display. Boot time, shutdown, and opening applications is downright zippy!

You hear and read a lot about the MacBook Air. From my perspective Apple absolutely nailed it.

You hear alot abo
