Hi everyone... first post

I was just about to get a MBP and decided to have a closer/slower look at this. YAY... right?

After seeing the new mousepad I had a feeling that this would happen... so, COUNT ME IN. I'm waiting.

I hope the prices don't boost up, I'm on a limited budget :(
I want the mousepad, and the new keyboard tho.

I doubt they'll boost the price, most likely keep the same price points. If anything as others have said in other discussions... their current price points for the current MBP should be lowered since its been the same price since they came out.

"The only difference is, since 2.5GHz is the lowest of the new processors and 2.4GHz is the middle of the current line, the 2.5 would actually be CHEAPER! Which would allow me to save money for that iPhone I want! How does that plan sound?"

It sounds like your thinking way too hard....

If you need a new computer go out and buy it...Its really unlikely that any update will have any major technological advances. The new penryns arent going to be that much faster, (seriously, do you think you will notice the difference between 2.2/2.4 ghz and 2.5 ghz) and the multi touch track pad on the MBA will probably get imported into the MBP, but its probably not worth waiting for.

I think alot of people waiting for updates are going to be dissapointed when and if new MBP's are released.

You're right, but only those who have really needed a laptop for a while now and didn't get one. Those of us that have been waiting to buy one, but don't really need it right now will be just fine.

Add me!

Add me as well. I will be getting the baseline MBP model as soon as the Buyer's Guide changes to "Buy Now! - Product just updated".

This will be both my first Mac, and first Notebook/Laptop. =)

My brother and one of my friends are also waiting with me.

Well I look into the crystal ball and it tells me that 10.5.2 will have SSE4 instructions built in making it a bit faster. As far as everybody hoping for everything under the sun... I have doubts, at this point I just want an up-to-date processor and anything else is gravy.

T-18 days until MWSF Mk II

SSE4 .. hmm

Do you really think so? There's been pretty extensive coverage of what's in (and what's not in) 10.5.2 and I haven't seen a mention that SSE4 is on the cards for this update. Did I miss one?

They seeded another one last night, so it's not done yet, perhaps Monday, or Tuesday .. or not

I have noticed since last Tuesday this thread has gone pretty quite. Come on all, keep up the love, keep the faith. You know Steve's reading this every day, don't let him think we've given up now.

I'm waiting until November/December. I think I'll be leaving Korea at the end of the year, so I'll be selling my lovely iMac 24" white and getting a MBP, 15" probably. They may have a real update by then, not just yet another modest speed bump/chip change.
And, Apple, drop the price by 10-20% please.

At this point very limited amount of SSE4 chips are out in the wild so they are withholding the annoucment. It is the only way to speed up the new MBPs and give some sort of speed preformance upgrade as if they only change out the processor it will be a 0-7% increase across the board. Not quite stunning for the people who have been waiting for the chip to release.

Only ways to upgrade the MBP to get a preforamce boost...

CPU = same speed minor boost
Video Card = Upgrade to get a little more GPU but again, won't effect the whole system preformance.
Memory = Stuck by the chipset. So we won't see any of the 800Mhz memory for speed boost.

This is also my first mac, and notebook since my first one was in highschool, a ridiculous overpriced IBM Thinkpad (380ED) on 1998, my highschool sold them as expensive as the macbookpro today.

My sister still uses that enormous block of a laptop, it doesnt even have usb ports for christs sake!

Anyhoo, last year I started using an iMac at my job and found it just nice, nothing impressive, I still liked Windows, since I feel more secure playing around with the OS to customize it.

THEN Vista came, along with all the new line of PCs and I JUST CANT BE BOTHERED to accept that many errors.

I havent even found a way to install Freehand into vista!!! what the hell.
Here's to a lovely life with a mac (crosses fingers)
*raises glass and takes a sip*
ahh

E:hope this sounds better :D

I know it's exciting to come over to the world of Mac OS X but since you are a new poster here be sure and read the forum rules. Your language and expression about hacking is not acceptable on the forums. Just informing before the moderator does.

Yesterday I posted to this waiting list for the new MBP. However, I happened to be in an Apple store last night and couldn't resist the MBA. So now I have an unopened MBA tempting me at home. I was trying to hold out for the MBP update, and then decide between the two, but I'm not sure how much longer I'm willing to sit on my thumbs. I suppose at the very least I will wait until this Tuesday.

I already have a home powerhouse (2.33 GHz 17" MBP), but need something more portable. The MBA seemed to fit the bill for all my portable needs (mainly e-mail, web, office), but I was waiting for the MBP to see if they released a smaller size (like the titanium powerbook days) with features of MBA (multi-touch trackpad, portability, etc.). Although I wouldn't need the power of the MBP on the go, it would be nice to have the extra speed for photos.

Any thoughts on the likelihood of a smaller MBP?

MBP is the perfect size. Chances of shrinking more then 1/4" of an inch in any direction? 10% or less.

Go with the Air if you want web browsing and mail. That is the target audience.

As far as shrinking goes I just mean mainly screen size...down to at least 13.3". Although the more I think about it, the more unlikely it seems as it would then be competing against the MB and MBA too closely.

If you already have the MBA then stick with that. The MBA is powerful enough. I would stick to the MBP only if you really need the power (video editing, large applications, gaming, etc.)

Some posters have gotten me wondering about a 13.3" MBP, that could be quite nice..
Although I agree with the problem; it'd be a
  • Better
  • Faster
  • Cheaper
MacBook Air..

Put me on the list! Yesterday My parents took me to the apple store I thought we were going to pick up the basic white macbook. Then my dad says what about this one *points to macbook Pro* I say its going to be updated (Hopefully) soon. I'm waiting hope they come out soon.

I'm on the list too.

My Mac Mini went to my Dad a few months ago so I'm living on my Touch at the moment and borrowing a few minutes here and there on my wife's MacBook. Very frustrating!!!!

Going for the 17" model
200GB 7200rpm HDD (or bigger if they offer it in the new revision)
4GB RAM (self upgrade after I get the machine)
Hi-res screen

I hope and pray that Apple offer a 512MB VRAM option on the 17" as I want to install BootCamp and play some PC games. (Haven't gamed since the mid 90's so it's a little different now!)

Oh the sweet agony of waiting....

I think I know how I want to think. And yes, in fact, I'm pretty sure I'd notice the difference in 2.2 GHz and 2.5 GHz. Using Pro Tools, I need all the power I can get. I just need to be able to afford it.

I'm not going to be disappointed with any update that comes. It's real simple: I'm going to by a MBP and it's going to be great. The updates are just something to wait for in case they come by the end of February.

I was just listening to the song "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys and the lyrics made me think of the MBP.....WOW I AM A DORK!

SO, in the words of the beach boys....

Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true......
Wouldn't it be nice

You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But lets talk about it
Wouldn't it be nice:eek:

It's worth waiting for the Penryn chips just for SSE4. When applications are updated with these instruction sets, performance improvements will be significant. At launch, it probably won't make a difference, but if you are looking to buy a computer to last you for years to come, it is very wise to wait at this point. There will not be any significant performance breakthroughs until mid 2009 with Nehalem.

What about Montevina?? What benefit will that bring?
