What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

We just bought one of these: it is an amazing unit.

It really kicks on our 2.2ghz MBP with the faster drive.

Great laptop.

Glad to hear it is good. I will probably be buying the one I said within the next couple of days. What I like even better is paying $2650 for a 2.6ghz 200GB 7200RPM HDD and 4GB of RAM including 8.25% sales tax.

No doubt! I'm on week two without having a computer at home. My iPhone is keeping up for now but in three weeks I will snap and buy a MBP regardless of updates.

Normally I wouldn't be this patient, but my last chance to use my student discount before I graduate.

same here!!! graduating in march ! i was really hoping they would update during macworld as predicted, so i could at least enjoy the convenience of a laptop my last quarter of school instead of relying on the computer lab :(

My G4 PowerBook is almost 4 1/2 years old and is due for replacement. I was hoping that the MBA would fit the bill, but I'm now leaning toward waiting to see if Apple updates the MB Pros.

This will be my first Mac switching from PC My PC still handles what I need, so I can wait.

I almost went for a Mac Pro today, but I don't need 8 cores. It would have been overkill for me.

I am using a 12 inch G4 powerbook right now, my 17 inch PB LCD died, so yes I will be buying a new MBP as soon as the updates come......

Were waiting Steve!

I'm waiting, the Penryn is a good enough reason.

Why is Penryn good enough reason?

What do you know that others don't?

Penryn maybe gives 20 to 30 minutes more battery life with almost no performance improvement in 95% of real world tasks. DIVX encoding will benefit much more, but again, how much of this do you do daily?

Montevina is the REAL performance improvement, not Penryn.

Just my thoughts: Penryn is NOT worth waiting for if you need something next couple months.

Now Montevina, end of this year, that's another story.

I'm waiting for an update because I can't justify buying an MBP without updated specifications (which i'm hoping would come with increased speed on the penryn processor and possible video card VRAM update), especially when I can get same (processor/graphic card, better hdd options, etc) from an XPS for about 850 dollars less. Sorry, I don't care how nice OSX is, or how much "nicer" the MBP looks (and I agree, it does look a little more fashionable, although the XPS ain't so bad), I can't justify spending that extra just to use OSX. I'll install ubuntu for that price if I want something that meets anything other than a windows fancy.

Yeah, there's that, and also the fact that I want to use my student discount well. If I get the absolute latest MBP before I graduate, I know it will last me quite a long time before I start feeling the urge to replace it.

Fortunately I have until May as a full-time student, but an update just in time for my bday in February would be awesome....

No better bday present than getting myself a MBP :)

I've been waiting since october

and i'm still waiting

Count me in for August... Although I was quite aware that I'd most definitely have to wait until MacWorld... thought that was going to be it tho

I don't know exactly what is going on here but I'm in on this...

Add one more frustrated potential buyer to your list. I'm waiting for a refresh on the MBP (15" should do it for me). I may hop in on the current line if I can find one at a deal assuming there will be a price drop...

This will be my first mac in about 10 years... Grew up with them and just kind of got thrown into the PC cycle. Very excited to be back (thank you windows vista) and A LOT has changed :)

Since the MacBook Pro is still positioned as Apple's top of the line laptop, wouldn't you expect it to be at least as feature rich as the models below it, including MBA?

I would be surprised if Apple let their "Pro" model go for very long without really being the top dog. I do expect that in short order we will see some of the technology that went into MBA creep into the MBP.

The touch pad, keyboard, maybe some SSD options (128GB?), the new built in camera. Perhaps slightly thinner and slightly lighter as well. State of the art, top of the line. I think we'll see it before the end of next month, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the addition of a 13" MBP as well. Up to 2.8Ghz, maybe up to 6GB RAM??

I am really learning to love the MBA, but I'm going to try to wait to see the MBP upgrade before I make my move. My trusted G4 12" PowerBook still works fine.

the santa rosa chipset can support up to 8GB of ram I believe, it's just that the 4gb chips that it would require to do so aren't avaliable yet

Come on now, you saw the price of the 64GB. Not a chance. Pros are already backlit - if you mean the styling... well... it'll probably happen.

I'm in no hurry to see it though. Specially not that awful black - on - silver look, ugh. I'd prefer the white keys of the standalone keyboards, even.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the addition of a 13" MBP as well.

I sure as hell would - I think the MBA removed any chance of that unfortunately. Glossy screen, Micro DVI and integrated GPU made sure Air could not share the "Pro" tag, though, so it became its own brand.

If the 15" could get a little closer to 5 pounds while retaining its features, that'd be great also. It need not be any thinner, however - in fact it can't go much thinner without losing ethernet, fw and full DVI. 256mb GPU across the board, 512 option for the high 15 and 17 while we're dreaming...

I think SR chipsets are configured for 8GB RAM, but no one makes 4GB sodimms.

So we all agree that there's plenty of opportunity to rejuvenate the MBP, all sorts of things they could do. But I guess the Penryn chips have to be available for shipping, so that means at least another few weeks.

Can't happen soon enough. 15"MBP foot print is so close to MBA's, but weight and thickness aren't even close.

I am so anxious to see what they do with the MBP, so tired of waiting!

I agree with this sentiment. Apple made their little thin novely treats, now give us a something with a little more meat on the side.
I'd gladly gain a few more pounds and thickness if it meant better specifications

I'm waiting as well! I'll make due with my 12 inch till I see a freakin' update!!! Hurry up Apple! I'm getting pissed!

I need this laptop by the 17th of Feb. If nothing is released between now and then...
