What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

I need something to use by February 1st.

As it'll be my first Mac, I'll want it a little earlier to get used to certain things, so I'm going to order tonight. Chances are it won't be here 'till Tuesday, so I'll keep the box sealed 'till Wednesday morning, just in case, but I can't wait much longer.

(I noticed on the updated list it says I have already ordered a 17" MBP, but this isn't true, yet. :))

Probably best to change my status to 'pondering, whilst frowning'

My deadline is the warranty on my current Macbook - which runs out on May 2nd. It needs the top replacing because of two palmrest cracks.

The plan is - I get an MBP, transfer my stuff across, send the MB off for repair, and then the MB comes back and goes to my other half.

So I'm ordering no later than, say, second half of March - to give time for a new MBP to arrive, and get the MB away before the warranty expires.

At that time, if there isn't a new MBP, then I'll buy a current refurb. If there is a new one, I'll get the 15" flavor.

Ok, after a good nights rest ive decided to hang until the refreshed Macbook Pro . In the mean time ill have to live with my HP windows brick. So update my status to " suffering, agonizing thus waiting for macbook pro :D

Is it wrong that I went down to our local PC World last night, just to have a play on an MBP. I typed away, Expose-arama away (so much snappier than an MB!!) etc etc. Then, as the shop was closing, I let one hand linger across the keyboard

'Soon....' I said to no one in particular.

And I walked out the store.

That's wrong isn't it. Very wrong.

I'm stuck on a last-gen 15" Powerbook. It's slow. Unbearable compared to the iMac. Can I upgrade? No. Why? Simple: I'm 6'4". The Powerbook lid tilts back around 135° degrees. The MBP: 120°. The one with LED backlight: even less (~110°). That's not enough to use it on the laps, and maybe even on low tables in some circumstances. Horrible. Seems to me like there's only dwarfs working at the Apple engineering team.

Waiting for a MacBook Pro update as well. This will be my first Mac, so I'd like to get the most out of it. And being stuck with a crappy Inspiron doesn't really help with the waiting either :(

Count me in!

I don't care what it is. If it has MacBook Pro written on it I'll buy the mid range unit.

Please post your current MBP status:

As of 1:17, it appears that 85% of those in the list are choosing to wait rather than to purchase a SR MBP, based on an even distribution of those who have no details to their name.
Also, were Apple to release new MBPs now, they'd be expected to gross at least £110 415 or $216 259 from these MacRumors members!

I can't wait for the update soon enough. I need to hand down my Dell XPS M1210 (battery going weak and brother's desktop went bust so its going to be his main system) and I'd appreciate the increased juice of the Macs at lectures.

I planned to get one in early Feb, but I'd bite any update that comes along.

set my status back to ..... WAITING

watch next thing you know, montevina will be just around the corner...

Well I've really got to buy one in the next month or so as I've got a 3D course coming up and I can't run Studio Max on my TiBook.

17" standard res screen, fastest available processor,
biggest fastest hard drive and all the RAM I can squash in it (probably from a third party vendor though, Apple's RAM really pricey)

I'll be waiting...not sure why I feel it'll be worth it. But I do. I was originally thinking June/July but now I'm thinking I wait no longer than March. The thing that stings for me is that I could get comparable "speced" machine from the PC side for about $1600. Paying 1000 bucks more just for a Mac is a hard pill to swallow. When my buddy bought his last July, it was a great price compared to the competition. Apple updating slower than everyone else is hard to accept. But I think I need to get used to it. Apple is different in many ways...mostly for the better.
....it will happen. (soon please)

I'm still playing the waiting game for a couple more weeks only. Sure, I'd like the montivena (sp?) and all the goodies that will come with it, but that is 6-9 months out and I really do not want to wait that long.

Waiting for a MacBook Pro update as well. This will be my first Mac, so I'd like to get the most out of it. And being stuck with a crappy Inspiron doesn't really help with the waiting either :(

mrsk, me too. one of the hinges broke off of my 2003 inspiron (20G HD, 468 RAM) screen so i can't even open or close it. i'm a designer and while i don't do a lot of work when i'm at home, you can imagine how painful it is to get anything done.

i'm getting my first mac. was so excited for an update announcement so i can buy the latest. but now i'm just annoyed at all the crypticness. (disappointment at the MBA actually drove me to purchase a 15" MBP on wednesday, but i came to my senses and canceled it when i realized u can't return/exchange a modified machine - if the update came out in the next couple of weeks).

waiting...just defeated, and waiting...

Newertech Maximum Interesting

What is so good about Time Capsule? You still backup all of your data onto a single disk: hardy reassuring to me.

Currently I have a NewerTech Maximum enclosure hooked up to my Airport Extreme, providing for real time RAID-1 mirroring all the time. The only caveat is Time Machine does not work with it, not so much due to hardware limitations, but because of Apple's gay constraints.

Even then with Chronosync I still have the peace of mind knowing that if anything goes in my backup solution my data is still there if I need it.

I am currently eyeing up the newertech solution. What has your experience of this product been like ? From what i've read it seems a great piece of kit. Did you buy the enclosure and add your own drives ? Is it quiet ? Well built ? Did you order it from owc ? Do you live in the states or did your order it from overseas i just wondered how well they travel ? does it daisy chain via fw800 ? Sorry to hijack this thread and sorry for the many questions. If you answer favourably i'ts ordered !! Thanks again in advance iWooter

i have been on the lookout since around june... really waiting it out for the past couple of months.. if the macbook air styling/features are any indication of what is in store for the MBP then i will order one the day it is available for order.

WAITING.

I agree with that: even if the speed bump from Penryn is negligible, some of the other new technology from the MBA would nice:

The new keyboard, the new iSight camera, maybe SSD, new MagSafe, a little thinner and lighter, etc.

If the MacBook Pro is to remain positioned as Apple's top of the line then it's hard to imagine that it won't have all of the best features of the other models in relatively short order.

PC makers start shipping Penryn laptops in a few weeks, so perhaps Apple waits for the chips, lets some of the MBA hoopla die down... Mid February?

Chomping at the bit, but still waiting.

Airport extreme card died in my main system... Powerbook G4 1GHz 17". I would like to get a new MBP.

But I ordered a new Airport extreme card instead! :D I'd rather wait to see what comes out next than settle for the current (which is by no means a bad computer).

WAITING!

I'm starting to think that the next MBP update has to include the new style keyboard. Why not do a make over while replacing the keyboard layout?

The big question is if they'll change the keyboard at the sime time as they do a speedbump or will they wait until fall to do it with a full make over?
