What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

I'm stuck on a last-gen 15" Powerbook. It's slow. Unbearable compared to the iMac. Can I upgrade? No. Why? Simple: I'm 6'4". The Powerbook lid tilts back around 135° degrees. The MBP: 120°. The one with LED backlight: even less (~110°). That's not enough to use it on the laps, and maybe even on low tables in some circumstances. Horrible. Seems to me like there's only dwarfs working at the Apple engineering team.

I totally feel you, I can't stand this either. It hardly tilts back at all!

I'm starting to think that the next MBP update has to include the new style keyboard. Why not do a make over while replacing the keyboard layout?

The big question is if they'll change the keyboard at the sime time as they do a speedbump or will they wait until fall to do it with a full make over?

Oh I hope they don't wait that long. Just get on with it already!

I'd been waiting for quite some time to purchase a Penryn-based MacBook Pro. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of news at MacWorld and began to really question whether or not I needed a laptop. In the end, I decided that I don't need one, as I barely use my MacBook as a portable machine.

I planned on eventually getting the higher 15 inch and a cinema display. So last night I priced out a Mac Pro on student discount, and saw how similar the price would be if we factored in the display. The deal was much better (in my opinion), as it's a computer that will grow with me.

SO, last night I bought a Quad Mac Pro. I really just do some encoding and lots of photoshop. I don't need an octo. Specs are as follows:

One 2.8GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeo
2GB (2x1GB)
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRELESS KEYBD/ OS X
Country Kit

Of course, I got a 20 inch ACD also. And I may switch over to the 8800GT eventually, but we'll see.

Another day gone by and i find myself frantically refreshing all possible rumor and tech websites! AHMAGAD please apple hurry up. The money is burning a hole in my thin pockets, give me a refreshed macbook pro :)

You can add me to the list as well! I'm waiting for an update to the MBP and will buy the "new" 15" instantly. I was so friggin disappointed that Jobs didn't present a MBP-refresh at the Keynote... :-(

I hope the next update's coming within the next few weeks and includes the new-style keyboard!

PS: I'm new here as a member here, but have been lurking around for several months. :)

Before MWSF, the only update we were really expecting was the bump to Penryn. This would have resulted in a small performance boost and a small increase in battery life.

Now, having seen the MBA, there is a bit more that I would expect to see, i.e. the new track pad, iSight, keyboard, MagSafe, etc... PLUS the bump to Penryn.

Since nobody else is shipping Penryn laptops for a few more weeks, I'm guessing MBP's will be available in a similar time frame.

Bottom line: as always with technology, we'll wait a little longer, get a little more. Kind of exciting actually.

Still hoping against hope for a 13" MBP.

Me too, the current MBP looks pretty old now, but at the same time I still think it screams of class. :) Played with one today and it's still a cool machine.

I guess you're right about penryn cpu:s, it might take a few weeks before they can ship but a late january or early february announcement would be suitable.

But surely the current balance between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro, which are too similar to justify their price gap, cannot last for too long.

You have a valid point there. I really cannot imagine just a Penryn CPU swap being enough for the general public to see the difference between these machines. With that in mind, do you think the chassis revision (mag latch, user swapable drive, MBA's trackpad, etc) could be coming in Q1?

Count me in on the list. I'm going to get the 17 inch if it's led backlit with all options. Going to be my first mac too!

I'm yoyoing like hell on this.

I've now decided I'm going to wait. I'll no doubt change my mind in a day or two - bored on a Sunday afternoon = probably spend £2k. :(

Willpower Aaron, willpower!

I might be able to get a Macbook to use for a few weeks (I know someone with two he isn't using, I have no idea why). If I get hold of one, I'll definitely wait for the MBP to be updated.

AaronRC, hold on in there, I'm desperately looking for a 12" PowerBook to last me until the update; they seem so much more expensive here than in the States :(

Sigh... I'm waiting too. My 4.5 year old PB isn't getting any younger, either.

I'd be happy with a video RAM upgrade on the base machine, with a processor bump too.

The waiting isn't too bad, though, since it's not yet possible to run Acrobat on Leopard. Come February I think I'll be a little more anxious.

STILL WAITING.....OHHHHH when will it end!?!?!?!

Sign me up for a 15 inch Macbook Pro 2.6, 200, 4 gig....... I am soooo ready, been ready since september! I've been using an iBook G4 for 6 years!!! and it's on it's last leg. I, like many others, thought for sure there would be an update @ MWSF, BUT NOOOO:mad:. When is Montevina supposed to be released:confused:? I doubt I would wait that long, but I'm curious.

Im waiting to get a new MBP so I can get on with some work, update to CS3 and retire the old G4 and not be tied to a desk at home.

Getting a 15" as we have a 17" Powerbook at work to take about and its just a silly size. Too big, very unportable, huge amount of base between the bottom of the keyboard and the edge of it (obviously as it has to be as big as the 17" screen) and I find the screen size is still not big enough for some jobs where theres a lot of moving around and zooming in and out and detail (and so on...!). 15" is great for when its a being a portable notebook and plug in a monitor when its earning its keep!! 17" is perfect as a 'desktop' computer but portable it isnt!

I still like the look of the Powerbooks and MBP as its been with us for so long now but would like a keyboard like on the macbook.

Only my opinion tho.
