My heart has been broken one too many times to put much faith in anybody's predictions except for SJ.. and he missed the mark :apple:TV Mk II.

Today my new 12" battery arrived and I'm managing 4.5 hours on full charge :)
On yet another side note, are there any Hannover-based MacRumors users?
I'd like to know if there are any Apple stores nearby when I depart for there!

I heard from a 'very reliable supplier' that the 19th is the day and shipping the 21st, cant say anymore, but its happening next week.

Even though the 19th is only a week away (as opposed to a whopping two weeks), I think I would rather see a new MBP on the 26th. At least then it will be more likely to have some redesign from the keynote.

Of course… when are we going to get actual confirmation for this event? It’s still just a rumor! :(

The only other thing I think is, surely if they release an updated MBP at this supposed event on the 26th in addition to the SDK, the SDK will be completely overshadowed - I'm sure there would be more interest in the MBP's.

So, I reckon, unless we see the SDK next Tuesday, we won't see MBP's the following Tues...

...and the wait goes on.

feb 26th is the last day for me to be waiting for a MBP, and then I'll be officially going with something else (I'm not sure what yet though, but maybe an XPS or something built from a barebones kit)

At all honesty it's not really that outdated, there's just no Penryn processor option at this time. I don't think the current MBP will show any wear even after 2 revisions have passed it and the next couple of revisions won't show any real performance boost to the naked eye. If you are all about measurable specs that really mean nothing than it's all good but if you are talking about noticeable performance boosts you won't see it.

Honestly, besides the Penryn CPU what's so outdated about the current MBP. Please leave out the GPU because Apple is notorious for keeping the same GPU throughout several revisions so the new MBP may have the same 8600GT.

Easy.

CPU
GPU
HDD

160GB standard in a $2500 computer? That is "good value"?

This guy is just one of the many fakes out there trying to hype people up. I'd love to be proven wrong, but he's got no proof at all. Don't just explicitly trust this kind of stuff for no reason- people post this crap all the time.

i was kinda skeptical 2 thats why i posted to get you guys' opinion

It's not very hard to sound legit, trust me. I'm not really trusting on any rumors that "have a reliable source" without proof. Considering the fact that macrumors and hardmac both "had a reliable source" and they both were false.

I think the purpose of Apple waiting this long to announce this thing is so that they will be ready for shipment the day that they are announced. If you take from the rumors that the MBP was supposed to be ready for MacWorld, but then was delayed because of problems with the Penryn chipsets and the problems that Apple had with the development of 10.5.2, (and that MacBook Air was supposed to be tacked on at the end), then it would make sense that MBP is going to be ready for shipment (the Air wasn't because as aforementioned)

This is of course only a theory that I have created based on the rumours and the seemingly credible information that has been made avaliable throughout the various orifices of the internet and the rumor community.

I hope you are right. And that last sentence is great by the way. Orifices, heh heh.

Great idea Brianstorm91! Good way to keep track of us all. I have placed my vote.

Regardless of the validity of this post, people are pointing out that a MBP release on unconfirmed special event (needs an acronym… USE? :p ) would overshadow the SDK.

However, Apple released both iLife, iWork, and Aluminum iMacs on the same day. And what about MWSF: wouldn’t you say that the MBA overshadowed :apple:TV Take 2/rentals/iPhone firmware?

As far as I can tell, Apple has a few options at this point:

First, Apple could give a special event on the 26th, where they advertise new applications for the iPhone/iPod Touch and showcase applications from the companies they have been rumoured to be working with. They would announce availability of application installs in iTunes, etc. It would be targeted towards general Mac users/people. In this case, new MBPs could POSSIBLY overshadow this.

Second, Apple could give a more developer targeted special event on the 26th, where they announce iPhone/iPod Touch developer tools and use words like SDK (which most people don’t understand). During the same special event, they announce new MBPs. The developers get their SDK and a MBP to boot, and the general public gets shiny new laptops (and we’re all happy).

Thus, the real question at this point (besides when do they release new MBPs) is how Apple plans to roll out the iPhone SDK. We all know how Apple releases new hardware and software, but developer related things have been pretty much isolated to keynotes or conferences at WWDC, not special events. Do they plan to keep it technical, rolling it into iTunes for public consumption at a later date? Remember, developers probably need some time to develop their apps (although supposedly Apple has been working with some already to develop apps).

Also, remember that special events tend to be more press oriented, whereas WWDC tends to be more developer oriented. Would a technical “SDK” announcement work at a special event? Maybe they’re not even planning to release the SDK at a special event. Or maybe it’ll be more flashy at the special event. There are many possibilities.

No, completely backwards.

Getting the SDK into everyone's hands is going to be the major driver of growth for their handheld devices. The market segment for iPhone/Touch is much, much bigger than for the MBPs. A simple MBP refresh would, press-wise, be completely overshadowed by the press reporting that the iPhone is now an 'open' platform (and rightly so).

How cool would it be if apple would announce the Iphone SDK this tuesday? this would allow the event to be focused on the MBP/MB. In that case, I'm guessing there would be some sick redesigns.

Every Freakin' Tuesday

Why is it my heart flutters at the sight of "We are busy updating the store for you..."

What's so special about Tuesday? Does that day have some sort of emotional significance with apple?

Uh huh. And someone else will have heard from a reliable source next Wednesday that it's due on the 26th. :D

Yeah I usually dont listen to people that post this either, but I 'think' this guy knows what he is talking about...he is inside channel rep (could always be wrong) but he said thats when...guess we'll see!!!

Lucky 1000th?

Hey guys (and gal) -- just wanted to say this is my 1000th post on MR. This has GOT to count for something, no? So c'mon Steve, bring it on!!!

Sorry -- was hoping to come up with something better than this for my #1000, but I feel spent

You guys are silly, waiting for upgrades that are a marginal improvement over the current MBP. I remembering reading threads about this back in Nov. '07 when I was contemplating getting my first mac and replacing my busted dell inspiron. And its funny, people keeping waiting and waiting...there's always something new when you wait in the electronics world. They keep speculating that at this event and that event there will be an announcement and there hasn't been one since Nov.

I'm trilled with my MBP and I've enjoyed it for the ~3 months you guys have been waiting ;)

But your trackpad's gonna be seriously outdated in a week or two... ;)

Yea, just like my MBP was gonna be outdated at MWSF '08 ;) Even if they do a Multi-Touch TP is not a huge deal, I wont be missing out on much. It would be nice to have, but definitely not a deal breaker and worth waiting for over 4+ months like some of you guys. :D

It would be so sweet if Apple were to give the MBP a major/semi-major upgrade, with slight redesign, optional SSD, new GPU and higher res screens.

If only to see the looks on the faces of the crowd who've spent the last month shouting 'Minor performance increase, you'll probably never notice it anyway!'

the thing is most of us here have a working computer now (otherwise we won't be able to spend the whole day moaning here!). we are waiting for our NEXT computer. of course we'd rather buy the newest model.
