What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

unless.....
they have made updates to more than just the processor and are going to hold a media event of some sort

Well we already know about the processor and multitouch trackpad, but more than likely that is going to be it (no new chipset = no redesign).

I would bet that in addition to the public iPhone SDK release, they are going to release something to let developers take advantage of the new multitouch trackpads in their notebooks. If that's the case, they would want the new MBPs to already be readily available so they can tout that to the press.

Just on a clue I checked on line BestBuy and most of the Apple laptops are on backorder. There was a rumor last week about BestBuy changing some sku numbers and everyone thought that was an indication of some new MacBook Pros. The on line Apple store now has MacAir down to 7-10 day delivery, there should be no problem keeping BestBuy in inventory unless indeed the end of line on the current MacBooks are on the way out. Couple that with some colleges putting Apple stock on sale..... THAT MEANS OF COURSE TUESDAY !!!!! NEW MacBook PROS

I hope the MBP does not come out within the next 2 weeks but possibly over the summer, but only for my own selfish reasons because I just ordered a MBP this past Monday and would like to think that I have the "best" MBP until then. :D

The iMacs got a redesign even though it had no change in chipset...

Good point. Apple is a sucker for consistency. Are the current MBPs close enough in design to the new iMacs for Apple's taste? At least they're both metallic now...

The question isn’t whether we’re going to see a redesign, but when we’re going to see a redesign. (Yet) again: magnetic latch, keyboard, multitouch, etc. Apple is not going to update MBPs without updating the visual appearance to bring back design consistency, unless they are SERIOUSLY behind and need to tide us over until they’re ready (and we’ve already heard rumours that Apple was almost ready to release at MWSF). There is absolutely no reason for them to keep the current design exactly the same.

Hopefully they’ll update by the end of February at unconfirmed special event…

They had the TiBook for two years before they switched to the aluminum, and now... 5 years + later, same design. I'd say its been time for a while.

I can't help myself~

as evident in the link above and most of you are well aware,
:apple: has milked and juicemaned on the PWB & MBP design for quiet 'sometime'~ now, going on 5 years! that's like 50 dog years in IT world.

WTF:apple:!!! i thought you tried to listen to consumer's wants!!!
pho~kn~ey!

I'm sorry all, I was a nice guy once~

what a sorry :apple: fanboy... won't move on... but still wait and wait to get the new MBP... sorry ass :apple: fanboy... i wish i wasn't so style driven... if I only cared about HW specs.... boy~ do I have choices~

:apple: is Like that Seinfeld "no-soup for you..." episode... no matter how rude, one can't help but go wait in the long ass line for that soup!

Apple only have themselves to blame for making such a cutting-edge design so long ago ;) they probably aren't sure how to top it!

yah~ maybe they are running out of ideas... sad thought :(

i see two scenerios:

1. "penryn just wasn't ready in time for mw"
2. apple is so greedy that they want to bank on the macbook air first before the new MBP release, because they are so similar in design.

Thought I'd give some insight of what's going on in Indonesia.

After seeing that no MBP update wasn't there on the 12th, I decided not to hold any longer. So, I call in few places in Surabaya to inquire about the current SR MBP.
The MBPs are backordered. No stocks (and usually they are pretty quick to replenish the stock). Tried to inquire the same in Jakarta, I think the store is the biggest apple store chain in Jakarta, they couldn't even give me the timetable when can I get the MBP even if I order it.
Their advice is to just wait because they got info that MBPs are getting upgraded.

So, here I am, when I thought not to wait any longer, I can't buy the machine because no stocks.

i'm getting paranoid - i used to trust people ~ i'm smellin too much sushi here~

I thought :apple: kept tight tabs on their stock to prevent that...either way they need to update the MBP soon because almost all of their compeditors are closing in on the SR MBP's current specs. I think everybody who was going to buy a MBA already has and they need to just go ahead and release the darn thing.

Bite your tongue! I really need a new computer, and i really need a mac... i've been waiting so patiently for so long.... simply so i could have the "best MBP" when I got it... COME ON :apple:

Just zip down to Singapore, the store here still shows 24 hours availability on every model of macbook pro, just as it has for ages. Even a custom box is 2-4 biz days. Apple must have a shed full of them here or something. Japan store is the same, 24 hours.

I do hope we don't have to wait out here not just for the launch of the new model but also for people to eat up the old stock, we'll be waiting here forever.

australia store is the same aswell.

The South African online store has no 2.4 models left and the next shipment coming monday has none scheduled either. They only have the 2.2 model. The sales guy did admit that this is common before updates to clear out stock, but also said he knew nothing about any imminent updates..of course. I called a couple other stores too, they all seem to be clearing out the 2.2 stock in student bundles or similar deals.

The wait continues..

I just contacted another store, they have stopped any orders on the current MBP's. They don't know for certain, but are very positive about an update..and SOON. Nowhere seems to be ordering new stock, so even if I wanted one, I still can't find one! However, this is good news.:)

Right just to summarise where we are with this. The update is well overdue now and i'm just wondering how much of an update we'll get? I'm thinking because there's been such a delay, there might be some good specs.

What specs do you think we'll see. Fingers crossed for VRAM increase or change to ATi's mobile platform?

*nods* mmmhhhmm mmhhhmmm hate to say it but i agree with you on that. the nvidia chips seem to be performing pretty darn well atm. i only wish that apple would give maybe a 512mb gpu option, basically so that they could compete with the dells/toshibas. :)

If they do increase the VRAM then i'll cancel my Macpro order right away!
