Just a thought, but could this event be related to a possible adoption of blu ray. hope it comes as an option in the new MBP, wouldnt that be great :)

would be cool. i probably wouldn't ever use it, but it would be cool to have new technology... just because it's new.

Yer it would be im sure we'll find a use for it in the not too distant future.

the suspence is killing me - and yer i too think it will be a silent refresh but hopefully not too far away

Yep right now, I think it will be a silent refresh too. I don't think they will redisgn the case right now. Probably after montevina.

Again, what incentive is there for Apple to prolong a design refresh? The rumour was that Apple had something planned for MWSF that didn't quite make it in time. Also, the design of the MBP is out of sync with the est of their computers, and Motevina really doesn't offer anything in terms of size (reduced thickness limited by other components, reduced footprit cuts into MB/doesn't give them a reason to axe the 15").

I'm trying to be optimistic here... I've seen numerous design refreshes for some products but almost nothing for MBP... Come on Apple! :(

I need that book asap

I just came home from a weekend where I had to do the documentation of an event on video. The event was yesterday evening and by today noon everyone should have a DVD with the event on it to take with them immediately.
I had a firewire DV cam attached to a four year old PC laptop.

1. capturing stopped while recording several times
2. there was not enough space left on the laptop I had to use so I started copying files to USB sticks to clear enough space on the laptop (wasn't mine).
3. When finally the software told me there is enough room (around 4am) I started encoding and went to sleep until 7:30am where I checked and it was still running and after some more hours it filally crashed anyway

so I learned something out of this event Never leave home without your own :apple: hardware - so please Steve gimme that xxx macbook pro - that would have saved another sleepless night I spent in vain :eek::mad:

A bit ironic that Toshiba just announced today they're ceasing HD-DVD player production.....

I was just brainstorming some incentives and came to the conclusion that it would make perfect business sense for them to delay the MBP release until at least 30 days after the majority of Mac Pro sales... to avoid a large return. You know? hmmm... but from what I understand most people didn't get their Mac Pro's until like the 12th?? Maybe it will be in March :p

ummm... how do you delete posts?

<--- "macrumors newbie"

This one used to say "i guess you can't write html on these forums" but then I realized you just have to put the link and it codes it for you... so now this post is a bit pointless... laLALALALALAlalalalLAlalALAL!! okay bye.

How many of you will buy a current model if nothing comes by the end of Feb.? I know that if there's no siginifigant evidence by the end of Feb. that they are coming soon than I am going to have a buy a current model. I desperately need one for graphic design as I just sold my old mac after macworld.

I also really need one, but I feel like if I buy one now, all this waiting will have been for NOTHING and i could've bought it earlier...

wellll I went to go install memory for a friend and apparently when they say "wait 5 to ten minutes after turning computer off" they mean it cuz he had had his comp on for months he told me afterward... but needless to say when I went to push the memory in his contacts were super malleable and just pushed back, breaking his dimm slot... so, out of guilt, I'm giving him my perfectly nice Macbook Pro and upgrading to this alleged new one... Long story short, I also need one real bad...

I have never owned a Mac before and I am waiting to own my first one. I was waiting for MacWorld to see what came out there, and I was very interested in the MBA. After doing lots of research on it, and eventually after having had a chance to play with it in the local :apple: store, I decided that it was very nice, but wasn't ideal for my needs. The hard drive just wasn't large enough, I need an optical drive and I would like a 15" screen and a bit more processing power. I only want the machine to use at home and I dont need to carry it around with me so although the MBA is very nice, the MBP is the machine I want!

Having used the current MBP, it is ideal for what I want, but I dont want to order one if :apple: are just about to release an updated version... so here I am, waiting patiently on my PC, waiting to hear an announcement on the MBP and waiting to proudly own my first Mac. I think I have to wait for some sort of update. If I dont, it seems like the wait will be a waste of time. If not February, I will be hoping for March... I just hope they announce something very soon!

No No No I will not revert to the chump-phase of buying what is left at the end of the run. I have been hobbling along on a Dell "company machine" for 2 months - as I had anticipated MWSF announcement. I feel like a cripple dragging my wooden leg through my work - and without any intended insult to our handicapped population - it is painful and annoying! Much longer and I may go elsewhere - but not to the rag-tag, end-of-the-road last 15" on the shelf.
It does NO GOOD, but I just want have the Gestalt of standing on the front lawn in Cupertino or wherever in the world SJ's desk sits now and yelling,
"C'mon, Man, What are you waiting for? You're killing us out here."

I went to the Knox Street, Dallas store last night to check out the MacBook Air. It truly is so small. I didn't notice any slowdowns due to the 1.8 ghz chip, but I was only doing Safari. It would be a perfect machine for my wife, but we just bought her a black MacBook about 3 months ago, so that point is moot.

However, I am holding out for the new MacBook PRO. I like the current model MBP, but will wait for the newest model to be introduced hopefully next week.

Steve, my credit card is poised and ready to use!!
