What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

With the problems the Pro Audio industry has had with the Agere firewire chipsets in the latest MBP's I would hope that Apple would take care of this problem in the new release. Maybe the Montevina board will give Apple more room to breathe with space considerations. The better, more robust firwire chipsets may be larger and require the extra space.

I know that the commercial recording industry has been outraged by the Agere Firewire chipsets in the MBP's made after Oct 2007. I hope Apple doesn't abandon the industries that put them on the map and have been their mainstay for so long.

It is very likely that Apple is trying to fix these problems and make the new release a very worthy successor. Hopefully the wait will be well worth it for all of us and the recording industry.

Relax, take a deep breath. We all understand that Penryn processors have not been shipping in quantity, even by those manufacturers that have announced Penryn laptops. I understand that if Apple had announced them for future delivery, at least we could have stopped wondering. But if indeed there is an Apple "event" next Tuesday, it would add considerable weight to the event if Apple announced the new MBP's alongside the SDK for iPhone. Hopefully they will be available for immediate ordering.

That gives the Penryn MBP a good six months to be king of the hill before the Montevina update actually hits the shelves.

I understand how this process might lead to thoughts of suicide, but buying a Dell...

If we don’t see invitations for unconfirmed special event today we might be in trouble. :(

Let’s suppose that the 2.6GHz option counts as an update… therefore it's only been 3.5 months since a “revision”, and therefore waiting until June for Montevina would give us a 7 or 7.5 month update time, which is about ~220 days… only about a month over the average. Of course that’d be a year since a “real” update… hopefully that won’t happen.

to not steal the Macbook Air's thunder, Apple might just skip 'penryn' and wont introduce 'gesture touch pads' until Nehalem this summer at MWDC.

Otherwise, there is nothing to show the Developers/pros. Also, it will be bad PR for Apple to charge a high premium on their MBP in late feb/early March with penryn and only to replaced it the newer Nehalem 2-3 months later. This business model might work on the cheaper PC laptops (dell ...etc), but Apple's customers are paying a high premium for the MBP.

Also, since the dust has been settled between HD-DVD vs Blue Ray, Apple need some time to (maybe) offer blue ray burner to the future premium 17" MBP Nehalem machine this Summer.

So, don't be disappointed if you have to wait till Summer for new MBP.

Maybe I can order the iSuicideKit Pro

Does the length of this thread give me an idea the ridiculousness of this situation? Hope maybe?

RELEASE THE DAMN MACBOOK PRO FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is going to be a really awkward 4 months.. I mean my MBP knows I was going to get rid of her, but I didn't because I couldn't... kinda like Coco Crisp... now I know what Theo must feel like.

Can I change my vote to "I'm waiting for the Monteniva update" or is there already another thread for that?

Sounds like you have a Stephen King Christine thing going on w/ your present MBP! with all the Penryn delay, I believe the manufacturers F'd up,not apple, I beginning to think that apple may skip Penryn altogether and go straight to Monteniva But since they announced that Montvenia will be ready for June, it'll take Apple and the Centrino people to get it together by say ummmFeb.2009. I'm feeling conspiracy theory here. The p.c word ploying against the Apple world. A coup, if you will, that forces Apple to have to start lagging behind the rest instead of being leaps and bounds ahead. I'm not really a conspiracy theory person but I can't help to wonder.....what if? HMMMMMM! See ya'll next Tuesday I'm going to get my Tattoo

THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT TUESDAY

Yep, that would be my guess.

With Montevina being released in June, do you think that Apple will have teamed up once again with Intel (a la MBA) to release the Montevina architecture in a MBP alongside the mainstream release?

If they can have Intel make them a chip that isn't offered anywhere else, don't you think that they'd be able to get their hands on Montevina early enough to release a MBP much earlier than would normally be expected?

One can only hope

Yep, that would be my guess.

I would have to respectfully disagree,
Macbook Air has a niche market and it's slowly benchmarking its way into a second hand or "non pro" - but liking the look of aluminum/design category...

Macbook Air should not impact sale of macbook pro, otherwise Apple would've priced it much less...

Does Sony-just an example- sell of lot of TZ's? no, not really, it's a niche market. Considering... Apple is selling a lot more then what they should... mainly because of our Greedo Jobo-Marketing Guru.

:D

Is there an event next Tuesday the 26th - or not?

I am still a little confused about whether there is or is not an event next Tuesday. It seems that the word on that came from some folks associated with the video presentation for the event - or for taping - or for some such staging.

Does anyone among our motley crew actually KNOW about an event?

and Ahem; Am I the only one wondering?
Tell me why it takes nearly 12 hours of Apple Store down time to add one item that has grown up to a whopping 1 gig? What is that? Is that a deliberate tease, or what?

As Sonic says, "I'm waiting...."

The original rumor just stated late february, so this could be tomorrow till next weeks friday. 9to5mac brought the 26th as possible date, but according to the rumor posted by AppleInsider today this date is nearly impossible.

If the event takes place and Linkin Park really is going to play there it can't be the 26th, because they have another event on that day. If I remember it right a user in the day before thread mentioned 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th february as possible dates to fit into their tour plan.

So if we rule out Saturday and Sunday, we're left with tomorrow or Friday. Hmmm...

Like someone said in the AI forums, who will show up to an event tomorrow or Friday if there has been no announcement yet?
Who says that it is tomorrow or friday? Possible dates could also be 27th and the 28th. This would be next Wednesday or Thursday. Today it is no problem to have a event on the west cost and on the next day on the east cost.

If it would be 27th or 28th there would be still time for invitations.
