If there's no update this Tuesday, I'm ordering my MBP from Amazon (that $150 rebate is amazing along with NO TAX!). The only problem is, I'm still trying to decide between a 2.2GHz and 2.4GHz. AHH!

I'm leaving for Nashville, then to Colorado after that on Friday. So, when I order on Tuesday, I'll drop the $35 for one-day shipping and have it here by then!

I almost don't want an update so that I can have this MBP for this trip! We'll see...

I'm in.

OK. After dropping my present one on the concrete, I need a new MBP.
So I'm joining this thread of credulous suckers and dispirited time-wasters. May my agony also be long and aching.
What I can't work out is why this thread hasn't been padlocked - like our fascist moderators did to the all-time-record "new ibook next tuesday" thread of 2005.

So that I can make the update moment (whenever the hell it finally arrives) tainted and bittersweet, I will place some unreasonable expectations that can only lead to disappointment:
- One-third thinner, and significantly lighter.
- DVD drive separate / external.
- Incremental form factor towards the AIR. You know it's Steve's baby.
Meanwhile, more grunt / multitouch / AIR keyboard are virtually given.

Comrades, let my trickle torture begin.

I hope they give that option, though I doubt they will unfortunately. I would gladly swap out the optical drive for some extra battery life.

I fondly remember when they jettisoned the 3.5" floppy drive from the first iBook. Quite a stir it was. Those around me laughed at my crippled toy.
The optical drive's day will come...

Need One Now

First Post. I have been reading this particular thread for a little over two weeks, in fact this was the thread that stopped me from ordering the current MBP, which I was just seconds away from doing. But as everyone else, I do not wanna buy something and then have a new version come out. That happened to me when I bought my Power Mac G5 Dual 2.7, three weeks later the Quad-Core came out. I was not very happy to say the least.

So I am in the same boat as everyone else, just waiting.

The optical drive's day will come...

For us filmmakers, who take advantage of the Pro aspect of the MBP, need that optical drive to be convenient. When it comes to burning DVD's of dailies or whatever else is needed to show someone, having it right there is easy.

Having that option to burn DVD's on set is of the utmost importance. So I am hoping it goes nowhere.

Not as long as software/games are only obtainable via CD's/DVD's. People seem a bit optimistic about the whole end of the optical disc. Something tells me these are also the same people that love the MBA and think smaller is somehow better.

The MBP will have a superdrive in it for a while.

Yes, but you could still have it conveniently plugged into your firewire port.
Or distribute your dailies wirelessly. Afterall, your product is going to market sans-DVD now.
Meanwhile, for us MBP users, who also 'use the Pro aspect' (smartass), but not the superdrive aspect, we can have a smaller machine.
And yes - to the other brainiac poster - smaller is indeed gooder in a "portable" computer. Else I'd take a mac pro with me everywhere, no?

First of all distributing two hours of footage at high resolution wirelessly just won't happen. Producers and editors wanna see quality footage and fast and they prefer putting in a good ol' DVD, that's just the way of the business A DVD can be taken by anyone on set to someone someone somewhere else. And with everything going to Blu-Ray now, that would be an added bonus feature for the MBP.

Yeah, I guess we could have the drive plugged in through firewire, but that is just something else that needs to get lugged around.

And why yes, I am a smartass, thanks.

Some Bilbo Baggins thoughts...

Apple has more balls up in the Air than expected......
-Leopard needed 10.5.2
-China had snow storms of the Century at their New Year which reduced
manufacturing production capacity significantly
-Time Capsule was late
-Apple TV/2 was late
-SDK is delayed
-they seem to be pushing hard and then fixing (instead of resting/recharging)
-MBP will get here when Apple is ready
-I'm sure they want a guaranteed totally successful launch (they need it)
-besides they expect it and we expect it also...its Apple:apple:
-MBP is their brand, their reputation, their flagship, their bread&butter
-we expect any MBP to meet very high product performance/quality standards
-give them a break
-I want a new MBP too
-I've recently been using a new HP 9736 17" widescreen, 250GB, Intel, 2GB, notebook; its cool, nice features like scroll up/down on the track pad, track pad on/off, very cool operating temperatures, very very nice glossy screen, a lot of neat new Vista features, $900, I have a ton of pages open, performance meets my needs, (bummer automatic daily SW updates every day that take about 15 mins to load, most being important or critical)
-want a different cheaper alternative immediately, many available
-want the Apple MBP with leopard and new updates, need to wait till they are ready
-remember Murphy's Law
-Apple is experiencing it on a daily basis now
-the latest and greatest technology is on bleeding edge, not only leading edge
-so......bottom line........go listen to some of your favorite tunes......enjoy yourself with your friends.......enjoy life or i-life for the time being.........better things are coming around the corner.........don't worry, be happy.............you'll see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)

Well I'm outta this wait. I just ordered a macbook pro from amazon. I don't reallly care about the new one now because I want to enjoy my mac now. If the new ones doesw come, then I'll just return this one. I got mine for $1762. :p

Now I gotta wait 5-9 days :(

lol i forgot some people said they werent going to shave until the MBP was released. just dont give up, you saw what happened when brady shaved his playoff beard. :D

hmm you know i got my very first mac about 3 weeks ago. back then i didn't even know this forum existed. so i get home and was like just truly ecstatic with my new mbp.

now i've been using macs at work for quite some time now but i guess i wanted to learn more about mbp's so i find this site. after seeing this thread about people waiting for a new revision and that it's suppose to come in feb. seriously i felt like i just got cheated lol.

i said to myself that maybe i should just return it and wait it out... but you know what, i'm just having so much fun with my mbp now that i guess i just think i bought it at the right time.

but anyway, that's just me. i'm really loving my mac and i just want to say goodluck to those of you still waiting it out. i mean i definitely can't do it since coming from pc (still have it btw i like pc's and mac the same :D), no matter how up to date you build a system, there will still be something better in a couple of months.

i guess i just got tired of that.

Thanks! Well, with the new rumor about the 1-3 week SDK delay, my hopes are certainly high for a MBP update this Tuesday.

I don't see the two things as related at all. The apple store won't go down for update to release the SDK, it's not a consumer product, I'm pretty sure that people subscribed as developers will get an email saying that the iPhone/iTouch SDK is available, perhaps with a new XCode release, and that will be it.

The only reason I could see apple having any kind of event around the SDK release is if they have partnered with a bunch of developers and are going to announce application content ..

I really can't wait to replace my 1.25 Ghz PowerBook G4. This wait is killing me, and between this and waiting to hear back regarding my Ph.D. applications, my nerves are shot, my nails are chewed down, and I'm sure my heartbeat is much faster than it should be.

Anyways... I really hope they include Blu-Ray in the update. I doubt this will happen, but since we know that Blu-Ray defeated HD-DVD, all I purchase now are Blu-Ray discs, and it would be nice to be able to take some with me when I travel and watch them on my 15" HiDef MacBook Pro monitor. Would be even better if it could burn Blu-Ray discs, but I'm sure this is all just wishful thinking. Anyone think a Blu-Ray burner might be a possibility? Hi-Def monitor on a 15" and Blu-Ray burner would make my day. Come on Steve J. I know you can do it.

Hallelujah brother.
You are a lucky lucky soul. From extensive research at macrumors.com, I have learned two things:
i) NEVER count on a product update following any expected or logical schedule.
ii) If a product undergoes a major change... wait for REV B anyway.

I am overwhelmed to hear you enjoying the performance of the single best notebook computer on the market today.
Meanwhile the rest of us will return to the self-flagellation and sado-masochism.
