Ok! Thanks for info.. looking for a case with the strongest magnets available. My tendency is to think a clear case would do this given the thinness of the material as opposed to say leather.

does anyone have any suggestions?

I have this since few months:

PROS
  • Really thin, thinner than a standard clear case that i have ordered before
  • Color does match very well, silver/gold/blue/black...
  • Feels great in hands, while the amazon standard clear case doesnt look so bulky at first glance, in hands, it was another story, a bit bulky in comparison of naked handgrip feeling, this one is something in between
  • Chrome edges (glossy its more 12 Pro style than 12)
  • Strong magnets (watch my video, the Magsafe support has strong magnets aswell)
  • Cheap price! With some discount, it only cost me like 5 bucks?!
CONS
  • uber hard to remove iPhone out of case, first time i spent like 10 minutes, i was so afraid to damage phone, you need to push a lot of pressure in order to be eventually removable
  • i have a tiny crack/scratch close to volume button (it doesnt bother me since its rather a slight scratch than a crack)

To sum up, really good clear case for its price, as thin as strong (magnets), keep in mind its hard to remove the case
You may not like the matching color or chrome edges
I didnt find any thinner Magsafe clear case for now, however i am still open to any non clear case but after using this, i wouldn't rather using a thicker case tho!

Ooh, howd you get the discount? Interesting in ordering and then forgetting about it (by the time it gets here there may be better options, but hey).

I forgot to add: it still provides some protection despite of its thickness
I dropped my phone twice, once it has been slide out of my pockets, another time, i accidentally dropped the phone in my car, not huge drop though
Neither my phone has any mark (thanks to tempered glass as well) nor the case too

View attachment 1728891Well the brand grip does in fact have a MagSafe ring but it’s very weak barely feels like MagSafe at all
I just received my dbrand grip and the magnet is just as strong (maybe even slightly stronger) as my Apple silicone case. I don't have the magsafe charger but when using my Apple wallet on it, it's just as difficult to remove.

Can you send a photo or video of say holding it by a magsafe charger if you have one? Curious how well it would work for car chargers, the number of poor reviews have put me off

Sorry, I don't have a magsafe charger or a magsafe car mount. My only use case for it is the Apple wallet. If I stick it to my fridge, it sticks like the Apple case.

My grips magnets seem very weak almost as if it’s just working through the case only

My dbrand grip will not hold on the MagSafe charger and it does in fact have the MagSafe ring built inside it’s a shame to I really like this case but without MagSafe it makes it inconvenient to use with my MagSafe accessories

Hmmm...I don't have a magsafe charger to test it out. I really do like this case though. Only downside is probably the amount of lint that is attracted around the skin.

If it’s anything like mine it won’t hold, tbh that’s the only thing that’s preventing this case from being the perfect case imo. I'm using the mous infinity clear case right now and so far it's really good but not as grippy as the grip case

yeah i even got a replacement Dbrand Grip case from Dbrand and the magsafe magnets just arent strong enough to hold up the iPhone 12 Pro Max. accessories work though and the belkin 3 in 1 but its not strong enough if you want to use a car mount.

Mous have just released MagSafe compatible cases. Limitless 4.0 and a new case called infinity
I’ve got the Limitless 4.0 and honestly not overly impressed.
You’ll note that Mous carefully use the phrase “MagSafe compatible” and that is what this is - compatible, BUT, it isn’t “with MagSafe”.

With the Mous case whilst you do get the charging animation when connecting to a charger you do not get the MagSafe animation you’d expect when putting the case on.
I’d also suggest the magnet isn’t as strong as the official Apple cases although that may be perception due to the lower friction of the back compared to silicon or leather cases.

Gut feel is Mous tried to reverse engineer an official Apple case and haven’t got it quite right. You used to see the same with iPad wake/sleep on the third party cases back in the day.

apple uses an embedded NFC chip just for aesthetics so what in my eyes magsafe is the magnets. it still charges at 15w and works with the accessories

Yes, but that’s my point it is simply MagSafe compatible rather than ‘with MagSafe’ as the Otterbox cases are. Given the MagSafe standards really aren’t out in the open, who is to say that the additional NFC chip isn’t there for a reason and a requirement for some accessories in the future. Apple clearly didn’t need to put the NFC chip there purely for the case animation only.

It is obviously going to be a licensing/cost issue much like MFi was initially.

I’m not suggesting Mous have done anything wrong - quite the opposite - they’ve actually been clear to use ‘MagSafe compatible’ but, the question is would every customers understand the difference.
Until I got the Mous case myself I wasn’t even considering that there may be a difference in implementations.

ordered the pad and quill case. Wonder if their magnets are strong enough... anyone find any cases with decent strength?
