So much for Apple. They lost another customer. For about 5 months I was ready to buy a Macbook Pro and I was hoping they would update them in August because I need one for school.

Unfortunately, Apple decided to wait for the Back-to-school promo to end and since the nVidia 8-series chips are plagued with defects, I wasn't gonna buy an overpriced, outdated, and defective laptop.

Luckily, Sony released their new new Montevina lappies and right now, I'm typing from a brand new 16" Sony FW. Amazing machine for half the price of the MBP. And guess what, after being skeptic about Vista, surprisingly, it runs without problems and is not as buggy as people claim to be (much less buggy than my friend's MBP running Leopard, that's for sure!)

Please be more mature, and since you have no Vista experience, don't mention how much it "sucks". Your second hand at best experience is of no value to anyone.

That seems like a pretty nice computer, the VIAO is the way to go if you want a PC laptop. A little lacking in the graphics department perhaps. Enjoy your new computer.

Yeah I was going to do the same thing. But I figured the only reason why I would want a MBP is because of a powerful GPU and good screen, which is not 100% justifiable. So I figured I'd take my parent's Inspiron 1420 to college instead since it's just sitting around in the house...hold out as long as I can with this thing. I just bought a Civic too...so it hurts everytime I look at my bank account. Winter's around the corner too, gotta save for those trips to Killington...

And i do have vista experience considering the computer im on right now has vista...
And im not trying to be immature
i know that the vaio's are good laptops
especially for the price and looks
im just saying that osx puts vista to shame

I don't understand how people can wait for Apple to release new products and then get mad at the company when the products aren't released "on time." Apple never announced new MBPs, so how can people get mad at them for not releasing the laptops?

Are you new?

so when exactly do you think the new MBP will come out? I am not familiar with apples history but since the free ipod with purchase deal ends on the 15th...does that mean the new MBP will come out soon after?

I am leaving for college on the 25th so I am not sure if I will have the time.

I think it'll be out by the 25th. Wait until then.

Are you new?

Haha....Sort of, I guess. But I know people complain about products not getting released soon enough all the time. It just gets annoying when people "leave" Apple (or any company) because they something didn't come out on time.

On another note, I'm finding it hard to envision Apple making two big announcement (new iPods and new notebooks) in the same month....

So then what you're saying is...Apple will bring out the new MBP's THIS Tuesday! :p:p

Hm. What you bought was actually a bit slower than anything Apple has (especially in the graphics department), but yeah, at least you won't be suffering from a dead video card.

Does Sony offer any laptops like that with a slightly more powerful graphics card (i.e.3650/3670)? If so, I might actually be interested.... the thought of a 16" screen really interests me, since I think it would be the absolute perfect size (17" too big).

What resolution do you have? 1680x1050?

Are you new?

New, perhaps, but he's also right, at least in some regards. While the person he was responding to had legitimate points (and I actually quite agree), he's right that some people get upset for silly reasons.... like things not being released, as he said, "on time," when there's no listed time schedule.

WHY? What makes you think August 25th vs. September 16th? I'm waffling between a Vaio (mine is finally dying after 5 years!) and a Macbook, but I start grad school Sept 8. I like Mac OS, but honestly some of the new Vaio's just released are very cool, Vista or not (and I will probably throw Linux on there anyway).

A Friend of mine got this version of the 16 inch Vaio VGN-FW139E/H. It has a 1600x900 resolution running the ATI 3470 instead of the model 140 which has the Intel x4500, 3GB RAM, HDMI, FW and 250GB HD. I must say for $999 (when it was on sale, now $1050 -$ 1150) it was a good deal. Also the 3470 does pretty good on some of the games, no super high frame rates but certainly usable with Company of Heroes (using the DX9 settings).

At 6.5 lb. its nice, as general purpose Windows laptop that can play games but certainly not a Mac.

Cheers,

The Tuesday 3 weeks+ from when Apple said "stock up for 3 weeks, supplies will be dwindling" is Aug 26th

The day after the Back to School promotions ends (and also a Tuesday, the characteristic day for product launches) = Sept 16th

Also, Tues, Sept 9th is both the end of the cycle according to the Buyer's Guide and 8 weeks from the Montevina launch (there was 8 weeks supposedly from the Pennryn launch to the Pennryn MBP refresh)

Lastly, an argument for Tues Sept 23rd: Many rumors pointed towards the end of Sept, casting great suspicion on this day. This one could also be used for Tues, 9/28.

Oh, I thought he meant SEPTEMBER 25th...sorry about that.

Wouldn't it be the 26th (a tuesday)?

Also, I'd love if they added a full KB to the 17 inch (see attachment, quick PS job - the 'M' key is in silver to show how they may keep the keys silver but go to the MB keyboard).

Your mockup serves no additional purpose. There's no numpad!

I don't like the idea of typing off center, either.

Sound the newbie alarm.
I am so glad I found a) this site, b) this forum and c) this thread!

My current laptop is about four years old and, although it's soldiered bravely on through all the abuse I've thrown at it, it definitely needs to retire *pats it*
I've had a couple of friends who've switched to Mac in the last year and thought I'd do some research, and the MBPs won me over. I was all set to snap up the current release, as soon as I had the cash, until I stumbled onto MacRumours while researching battery issues and then discovered all this craziness about the graphics card and so... put me on the waiting list, I guess, because I'm waiting. With baited breath. For the new MacBook Pro. (As long as it's at least as fancy and fun as the current one and not too, um... Air-ish. )

It's just lucky I don't actually have the cash to get the current one yet. My bank balance will look slightly less horrific in a couple of weeks, however, so I'm sure I'll get a little more twitchy then. I'm banning myself from my local Apple store because playing on the things is just too awesome.

Oh, and the Buyers' Guide on this site? Highly useful, thanks for that. Was going to order a current iPod Classic to replace my dying 2nd gen Mini until I saw the big, bold, red warning sign about there being a new release soon, so cheers. I'll keep my coins for now.

I have been "lurking" here for some time, since my life-long Windows experience has been significantly tarnished by Vista. For the first time in 20+ years, I am looking forward to moving to Mac.

I got my daughter a Macbook and she loves it. While we are restarting our PCs, getting disconnected from Wifi, and cursing freeze-ups and BSODs (even on XP), she is happily computing without any interruptions.

In defense of the comments above, Vista was a bad move on MS's part. I have had nothing but trouble on several different machines. I downgraded two of them to XP, which helped some. Macs seem to just work.

I was going to wait and see how the MBPs changed with the new release, since I always like to get the latest and greatest, even if it is not totally rational.

Anyway, it looks like MS is losing another loyal victim, I mean customer.

Im having a hard time between buying the current MBP from apple on the 14th and getting the free ipod touch and not opening the MBP in case the new one comes out and returning it (can you do that and still get the free ipod?) and just stay waiting until the new one comes out to buy from macmall/amazon to save on shipping.

How long will it take either of those sites to get the new MBP's?
