Is everything Apple announced so far just focused on their California demographic?
Signed in just to like this comment. By US standards I’m liberal and more than the US spectrum even really covers in terms of big party names.

But by God this circlejerking of seeing the same faces, the same sentences, the same everything over and over and over again is jarring.

I’m all for feminism, equal rights for LGBTQ+ (which I’m a part of as are most of my friends), etc etc...

But this extreme repetition at any opportunity is quite frankly boring as hell.

It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t come with the crushing force of pc policing, content filtering and filtering of “values”.

But hey, at least big corporate money’s interest is represented at all times during these keynotes.

When I saw Goldman Sachs as partner for Apple Card I almost lost it.

LOL yes it does. Try scrolling through any list it can't load the art before the selection is off screen and it pauses constantly to load new content when searching. The whole experience is a hassle because it never has issues loading ads, just the content. My Apple TV can pull from any server I want but it doesn't include the long load times and lag that Roku offers.

If you have issues then you must have a defective unit. And I have seen Apple TV at work. It is limited, which might be why it is fast. My niece tried to get her father to switch to Apple TV when they needed a new Roku. He tried it and in less than a day retuned it to Best Buy. It is limited (though maybe it will be better now) and it streams like a slug compared even to the smart TV apps.

Big takeaway was 1) it will be way cheaper if you are already subscribing to one/two of these magazines. Look at WSJ, the monthly fee is 2x compare to apple news+ and thats just one newspaper. 2) you are getting far more content for that $. 3) Better experience, ad free non tracking ****, easier subscription management.

Others will join when this takes off. That will make it more lucrative. And let's now forget the power of default in the apple ecosystem.

Slickdeals.net highlights sales of magazine subscriptions through discountmagazines.com or discountmags, anyway multiple times per year they offer yearly subscriptions, many of the top names, most for $4.99 per year.

The magazine industry has been dying for the past 25 years, perhaps Apple can inject new life into it but it is a tall task.

Time to bring the old NeXT crew back to turn this company around.

No need to turn the company around - assuming the presented services will generate quite some revenue soon.
However, not the computer manufacturer any more that made me switch away from Windows. Just one more super boring money making machine

Except that Roku is incredibly slow and full of ads.

Your repeating it over and over will not make it come true. I stream 4K on my TV with Roku to include Netflix, Amazon, CBS, and assorted other channels. It is lighting fast with my mesh connection. Perhaps you are having connection issues with your internet service.

The event needed a strong edit but the ideas are good here. They just need another year or two to work out the kinks. It felt a lot like the apple watch reveal, at the time it wasn't quite right, but now 3+ years later the watches are great devices. I expect the same with these services. Those shows look great, but I want more of them. Anyone who claims this is far left has been brainwashed by garbage centrist bs over the last 30 years.

Yes. Check out at apple.com.

  • APPLE CARD: Sounds good, but “low interest rate” is just words. I’d like to see the actual numbers. Kind of interesting that you get 2% cash back on Apple Pay purchases and only 1% when you use the actual card. UPDATE: Footnote 4 on the Apple Card web page says: “Variable APRs range from 13.24% to 24.24% based on creditworthiness. Rates as of March 2019.” What a crock of **** this “low interest rates” line is. Those interest rates are usury, right in line with the rest of the credit card industry. 24% interest ought to be criminal, and 13% is not“low”.

WSJ is not giving you everything, https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1110242556481359873:

WSJ internal memo says Apple News+ users will only get a "curated collection of general interest news." To access biz reporting, you'll still have to subscribe to the WSJ. Memo says "our collaboration with Apple will also extend to areas like video, voice, market data and AI."

The new Apple of Tim Cook. Fashion, lifestyle, subscriptions, credit cards, tv shows etc. What about hardware and software innovations. I couldn’t believe that this guy could deliver a worse keynote than the previous ones. But he actually did it.

I don’t care to read anything from the censored politically corrected appleMagazine Plus. Anyone with the least part of his brain functioning shouldn’t sign for sth like this. I wouldn’t use an app like this even if it was free.
The last Apple customer turn out the lights. In the meantime we’ll see what all this brings.

I liked the keynote. Apple did their usual excellent job. Of course, people think differently about all of this.

But with all of this I say:”Apple, break a leg”.

I did not watch the event today, but I am reading the news and visited Apple's page. It seems ambitious, and a somewhat radical shift from what Apple has been doing so far. But the only product readily available is probably the Apple News. It is kind of underwhelming. I see nothing really special about the announcements.

Apple News does not seem particularly attractive. Apple TV+ had some big names, including Spielberg and Oprah, but the content is yet to be seen. The Apple Card is an interesting idea, and could work. But it also seems more interesting for Apple than for the users themselves. The Apple Arcade seems the best one so far, as it really brings a viable alternative to the pay-to-win games that populate the AppStore.

Apple seems to be betting big here. It is changing its focus to expand its walled garden and become a content provider. Risky move for a company so well-established. Apple could win big, but can also fail. And some of these services may go well, while others may not.

I am not impressed so far.

NO it is not filled with ads. Why do Apple people feel like they have to put others down to justify Apple?
Dude. There are ads on the remote, the menu, and the screen saver.

The Roku is limited, but that doesn't explain why it moves so slow. Googling Roku Slow shows many other people have the same issue.

My Apple TV has no issues. I have used multiple Roku's and they all have ads and can't scroll through content. I am not talking about streaming, I am talking about searching. If the item you want is 100 videos away you might as well call out of work because you won't make it.

Please stop feeding false information that a faster internet connection can make the device UI faster.

I can't help you if you cant read it yourself.
I can see every single article under WSJ.com -> Business Section in the apple news+ WSJ -> Business& finance. Try it yourself. Not sure where is the missing content here. BTW, theres no business reporting section on their site or their native iOS App... I guess its missing from everywhere. :p

Ads on the remote? Are you talking about the Netflix and Amazon buttons. Those are put there for convenience since most people have those services. As for the screen saver and other "ads" they are simply showing what is available on the service. How else would people find out?

You are really grasping at straws here. Just because Apple doesn't have anything to show doesn't make them better. It makes them more limited and undesirable. What do you think today's event was about? It is their attempt to catch up with Roku and Amazon.

And if things are slow for you, then you have network issues.

You're kidding. She didn't achieve anything and walked the plank.
Of course I am. I guess my mind somehow added her automatically to the images I had to endure today: VPs with their “Good for you!” look while clapping for their peers who just bought themselves into the hearts of Hollywood with money they made with overpriced HW options.

Kidding again. Hearts, Hollywood. Too funny.

At least the actual celebrities were unprepared like at any other promo panel. I liked that professional attitude.

That said, I’d like to declare that I don’t appreciate Oprah longing for access to my pockets nor Apple giving her that access.

They are non-changeable buttons, and if you don't sign up they take you to a page where Roku earns a commission if you sign up. Why won't Roku let me change what the buttons do... oh, it's because they were paid to put those services there. Your excuse that they are the most popular services is false because they aren't consistent across devices. They sold ad space on their remote. There isn't a spin for that that fact.

The screen saver and menu ads don't just show ads for additional content but don't let that fool you. Ads for movies and videos are still ads. It shows content for subscriptions you don't have not ones you do. And again, Roku earns commission if you sign up. They are ads that take up 1/3rd of the screen.

There are no straws to grasp. As long as Apple keeps the UI looking nice and responding quickly it is far superior than the economy stick roku is pitching. Seriously, they admit to it. Read up.
