Roku does not. I use it and it is fast and efficient and offers great 4k without any hassle. Not only that it plays from my media server far better than any other service. Apple TV is a joke compared to Roku in every way.

LOL yes it does. Try scrolling through any list it can't load the art before the selection is off screen and it pauses constantly to load new content when searching. The whole experience is a hassle because it never has issues loading ads, just the content. My Apple TV can pull from any server I want but it doesn't include the long load times and lag that Roku offers.

I will wait for Rene Ritchie to tell me, and convince me that this was the greatest keynote ever. Wait and see...

I stopped following Rene a few years ago. Obviously you've got to be an Apple fan to run a specialized site like iMore and I expect a very distinct Apple bias in the articles, but that guy went off the deep end. Way too many arguments over anything even remotely critical of Apple, and absolute adoration over anything Apple announced.

Where he really lost me though was his unyielding defense of denying Apple was throttling the iPhone because of battery issues despite substantial evidence otherwise.

I was quite intrigued by today's offerings, especially the virtual (and real titanium) credit card.

But I find the whole presentation style is quite dated and dreary. And the whole second half of today's just seemed to meander and stall badly. It could have easily been cut by at least 20 minutes.

Sounds like it's time to weigh in. I think the card is a good idea and that was the only part of the event the stock rose on. That's going to do big numbers for AAPL. You consumers have already had a week of toys. I don't like Oprah but she has a huge following.

The content I am not sure about. A world in the future where everybody is blind... not sure about that. Although I don't watch TV at all except for news. So I have to trust there are enough people that sit day in and out and watch any kind of trash they can get. Most of America spends every living moment they aren't at work in front of a TV.

The card is the winner in this show.
My point is made toward those putting in "margins, profit , PE, and whatever" on every single topic. May it be on headphone jack, RAM size, SSD performance, colored bands and phone's covers. I guess we all know who am I referring to.
Regarding Oprah...that is very US centered. Large numbers come from worldwide coverage, i.e. iPhones.
I live in an European country with no support for localized Siri on Apple TV yet. More than 6 years have passed since Siri debuted. With this approach ffrom Apple towards my country, I feel 2025 as a reasonable timeframe for me to find something worth my money on an Apple Tv Service

Yep, it’s time to move on. Make your investments worthy.

I stopped watching like after the first 2 minutes when mr cook said
todays is all about services or something like that
but when he gave the intro about apple software and hardware
I already knew which direction he was going
then the hint
today is a different kind of special event
so after hearing the first two comment then hearing today is all about services
I stopped watching
I don't care about any service. I don't care how cool others might think it is
I simply don't have any interest on any of that

So to sum it up we have:

Apple Netflix
Apple Steam
Apple Paypal
Apple Kindle

and a "new" $150 1080 video streaming device ( last I checked the Roku and Fire were 30 bucks ).

Might as well have had an Apple landline telephone introduced as well.

In the meantime AppleMaps and Siri are seriously struggling and the Mac Pro was last updated in 2012. Ugh....

I think its HILARIOUS how all these Apple "haters" are here acting uninterested just because its the popular thing to do. This even has been going on for almost an hour and a half...and yet for some reason YOU ALL are still here watching lmao
That’s the thing. I’m not a hater. I’m exactly the demographic that’s well suited to Apple’s programming plans. I tuned in with interest to see what would be previewed of the new Reese Witherspoon/Jennifer Aniston show. Those actresses are actresses I’m familiar with. And I like the concept of family friendly original content.

And that presentation—all of it, not just for that show— just was so wretched it sapped any interest I had. I’ll have to just wait and see how all of this plays out.

There’s possibly a lot of things introduced today that I would be interested in. But I can’t tell from what I saw of it all today.

Tim iPhone sales are dropping , we need to come out with some kind of new strategy to try to make money some how
I have an idea, "services", you can make money without having to sale any kind of hardware
we don't have to invest on parts, because if we don't sale them, then we will have losses

so services is the way to go
money grab services
lol

I guess when things turn a bit hard for apple
they will always come out with an idea to innovate and make new products, software or services for their costumers
is not like doing this just for the money

well just in case I was using sarcasm, we all know that everything apple does is for the money
and they don't care about their costumers

people been asking for a new Mac Pro for years and apple simply hasn't deliver
they have only delivery false promises and delay after delay

I wonder why they have never failed to deliver on iPhones and iPads, year after year
strange, well not really
with their actions they are showing you their priority list

sorry but I used to loved those event but they are simply not cool any more
I don't know if is mr cook, well I'm really sure it is
but is like he suck the enjoyment out of the event and that makes the event simply
unenjoyable and unwatchable

maybe it was his shoes or his pants
:D

Glad I didn't waste my time watching any part of this.
Seems like innovation is dead (at least it appears to be) at Apple.

Where are the new and exciting products? I have yet to see anything exciting come out of Apple since Cook took over the helm.

The new Apple of Tim Cook. Fashion, lifestyle, subscriptions, credit cards, tv shows etc. What about hardware and software innovations. I couldn’t believe that this guy could deliver a worse keynote than the previous ones. But he actually did it.

I don’t care to read anything from the censored politically corrected appleMagazine Plus. Anyone with the least part of his brain functioning shouldn’t sign for sth like this. I wouldn’t use an app like this even if it was free.

Stadia looks more intriguing than Apple Arcade.

No Stadia streaming content run on someone else's hardware is 100% braindead. It means it's bandwidth heavy (forget about playing on the go), high latency. Running local is the only way to go.

Not to mention google is scary as hell and running your stuff on their hardware can't ever be good for you.

I’ve got to agree; I can’t listen to him anymore including any podcasts he pops up on. He isn’t an objective journalist, more 3rd party Apple PR.

Big takeaway was 1) it will be way cheaper if you are already subscribing to one/two of these magazines. Look at WSJ, the monthly fee is 2x compare to apple news+ and thats just one newspaper. 2) you are getting far more content for that $. 3) Better experience, ad free non tracking ****, easier subscription management.

Others will join when this takes off. That will make it more lucrative. And let's now forget the power of default in the apple ecosystem.

Are you sure full WSJ is included in that subscription?

The Apple of 2019: Where a huge number of crazy intelligent high achievers create fascinating, heavily underwhelming services ...

Fixed it for you ;)

Right?

1)
For goodness sake, is this really a thousand comments of moaning minions? I wish they all actually would stop buying iPhones. Maybe then they'd all leave places like MacRumors and get a grip with themselves.

The only thing Apple had to do to make Apple TV+ a success, is get people interested in their content. I don't buy things just because Apple makes it; I buy it because I care about it. And they got me to care about a couple of pieces of the content, so I'm going to try it and see what I like or don't like.

2)
Furthermore, I was waiting for the political correctness that's always bitched about. Like, on the edge of my seat for it. Didn't see much of it, if any. I'm starting to think you all are just living under rocks and have no mad clue what the human condition is like.

3)
Complaining about subscriptions is moronic at this point. Are you going to cancel your cell phone? Your cable TV? Your Netflix? Your car insurance? Your car lease? Your rent? Some aspect of your life is a subscription and it's probably never bothered you before. If some magazines or shows are what's bothering you, then leave the room so others can read and watch in peace. Go cancel your car insurance and some rent, it sounds like you'll be happier that way.

EDIT 4)
Steve Jobs would have approved of the original content. It was always his vision for Apple hardware to fuel the human condition, creativity, storytelling, etc.

What you all don't seem to realize is that it's not Apple that has lost course, it's … you. Go trash your iPhones if you don't like the company that created them. But get a grip with yourselves. Or don't, I don't care. It shows who you are more than anything.
This, a thousand times.

The only remotely decent sounding thing to me was the games service. But when you think about, it's still mobile games, high end titles are generally not more than $10 each. And those will not be available with the service.

Instead you get a microscopic curated library (100 games from 300,000), and those are all games that the devs don't believe will sell well a la carte. How many games will you play in a month? Even if the service is $10/month you're way better off buying 1-3 high end games from the app store each month. If you want more games to start, drop $60 up front and have 6 months of fun with them rather than 6 months of this subscription.
