Ouch, since when does £1 = $1. Do Apple know something about the currency markets that everyone else doesn't? Even after taxes, the Apple TV is 30% more expensive in the UK than the US.

Don't forget that Netflix streaming to PS3 and Wii is totally retarded because it's not an application that lives on your PS3 or Wii... you have to manually insert the Netflix DVD into those machines and run the software. Completely retarded compared to the cool :apple:tv implementation.

PS3 is getting a native netflix app in short order.

Apple are *******s. They've kept the US prices the same, but bumped the UK prices up HUGELY. An iPod Touch now costs £189 instead of £159!

In addition. New Apple TV = $99 USD OR £99 GBP. How the hell is that fair?

Complete tools.

so i have to turn my computer on to stream the stuff to my apple tv, AFTEr converting everything u have into a iTunes friendly format. i dont get the point, just plug in your computer then

no cables ... even cooler feature is the ability to 'push' pics from my comp to TV. great to show selective pics from my laptop library to friends without going through glut of unwanted ones.

What part of streaming solution only did you not grasp? Then again with an Ethernet connection and a switch you can access other shared network drives.

I can live with streaming and eventually they might come up with a hack to allow drive support.

BUT NO 1080P!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, that's lame.

so they said HD recording, no mention of still pictures with the new ipod touch, BUT the specs say:

Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still photos (960x720) with back camera

720p is 1280x720. Why can't you take photos of that resolution?

whether we like it or not...us hard core techies are in the buying minority. Apple is doing very well with the simplicity angle. Thik your parents.

My 85 year old dad uses Netflicks on the computer, doesn't stream, orders the DVDs. Boxee Box is just as simple, but far better inards.

One more thing

A bit frustrating to hear Jobs talk about the HD war being over, HD won, while still limiting its content to 720p and having no bluray support.

ATV now have A4 processor, so it can run IOS binaries - those with developer license will be able to hack and run some cool apps.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple's adapted the AppleTV backend to iOS4 with the existing AppleTV UI. We may see widgets/apps as part of a future software/firmware update.

The ultimate Apple fanboy... I mean fangirl would be Imogen Heap.
Pity they never invited her for one of these, she would've blown Chris Martin out of the water, solo performance wise.

No doubt, she is an amazing live performer.

Whether or not it has a DVD/BluRay drive or not, Apple TV will only move from a hobby until it offers what people are using Minis for (which is an option too far in terms of power needed).

So $99 is nice, but it is still a hobby. Now a less expensive one, but nothing more than I can do with sticking a USB WiFi stick into my TV.

no interest in any of the ipods but the touch (bye bye classic...)

Where's the classic going? I didn't watch the stream, but note that all the other iPods have been updated on the Apple Store whereas the Classic remains the same as it was and still available.

I agree this i a gimmick pay 100 dollars for a little box that lets you rent movies. What is this garbage.

Do people miss the point that you can stream from your computer????

Also, it's a nice option to have to rent the movies and TV shows on the TV other than what cable or satellite offer. I think you're being too critical.

Interesting...

... I wonder if it will be possible to flash the old ATV with the new software - not that it does more? Surely otherwise the old ATV will go out of support completely in iTunes?

People worried about not being able to play rented stuff on Apple TV, I just read the page, and airplay allows you to play any content you have on your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch etc.. right to your apple tv, so if you bought a movie from Apple you can stream it to Apple TV from your PC or from your IOS device.

Good news though is that the iPod classic is still around. 160gb for $249.

The King is not yet dead.

Look at the actual site, or the press pictures, there is a clear camera toggle.

Wow, that live stream from Apple was amazing! I am so glad they are starting to offer this again. I am very pleased with their updates. They did a great job. I am looking forward to the iOS update in November. The stream started to stutter a little bit here and there. But it for the most part was smooth and just as good of quality as the video when it is posted hours later like in the past. Their network at Apple seemed really fast today. Did you see loading the movies and TV shows? They were so fast! Can't wait for iTunes 10 to be available for download. They have the images and advertising up on the site but it still links to the current iTunes 9 download. Hopefully it will be available soon.

US apple tv = $99 UK apple tv = £99.

Looks like I won't be getting one if these then. £65 like it should be I was tempted.

I was hoping for it to be around £60-£70 too.

Bet we get stung on the rental prices too.
