AppleTV as Remote Display?

I guess we will have to wait and see what officially can be done (and what can be done unofficially), but at $99, it would be great if the AirPlay could send all video and audio to the AppleTV or the AppleTV could run an app like "Air Display" (runs on iPhone or iPad and now I guess, iTouch) so you could use whatever screen it is hooked up to as a remote or secondary display. I would stick one of these in every conference room and tied to every projector as a wireless way of hooking up video/audio for everything from Movies to PowerPoints (KeyNotes if you prefer) or even quick video conferences.

What video formats will the new Apple TV stream, will it do AVI and MKV, or just Apple proprietary... anyone know this?

Well, I like the iPods kind off. The new Shuffle and the iPod Touch are amazing! well done Apple..

But.... the new Nano??? what the **** Apple? It too is amazing but what the hell are you supposed to do with a tiny minute unreadable screen?? I see it being changed back next year....
iTunes, yeah that looks good and the new IOS does too.

But now onto my main issue with Apple. Apple TV, well for one I guess I should be grateful they never called it 'iTV' but the WHOLE business model just equals FAIL. In the UK if you have a TV you HAVE to by LAW buy a yearly TV license to view BBC television. You basically HAVE to pay it if you have a television, you cannot argue that you'll never watch any BBC channels. So with that I get about 30 channels of advert supported and non advert supported channels, so just why the hell should I buy your Apple TV, use up all my broad band usage, and then pay to watch American TV shows?

If in the UK we didn't have to pay for that license fee, which currently costs £145, the new Apple TV in the UK is £99, then maybe it would be a good idea but as it is? IT'S A MASSIVE RIP OFF FAIL!!

So good luck to you Apple, I can only hope it's successful in other country's.

No mention of that, so I don't think so.

Once more:

1 - GREAT new iPods;
2 - GREAT news about iOS for iPad;
3 - iTunes 10 is only about Ping? What else, can anyone tell me?
4 - USELESS APPLE TV update.

APPLE IS DEAD.

Troll much?

No iLife???

Steve, I can't believe I have to wait more months for new iLife. I was so excited. I'm only half satisfied with today. Make it up to me by buying me an iPhone.

Sincerely,

Ok everyone, lets recap what we talked about today!

First, we showed you a really tiny new turd, then a medium sized turd and a redesigned large turd.

Then we showed you a smaller version of a previous turd.

Thanks for coming, and don't mind the locked fire exits. We just don't want you leaving before we torture you with........Coldplay!!!!

Do people miss the point that you can stream from your computer????

Also, it's a nice option to have to rent the movies and TV shows on the TV other than what cable or satellite offer. I think you're being too critical.

As long as the computer is awake...and renting is simply something that can be added to the CURRENT Apple TV with no effort.

Again, an USELESS update.

I wasn't too far off for the nano. My mock-up:

Pretty happy with the event. Pity about no Touch 3G.

... I wonder if it will be possible to flash the old ATV with the new software - not that it does more? Surely otherwise the old ATV will go out of support completely in iTunes?

They won't lose support, but I bet we're staring at the last software update for it.

Do you think the new AppleTV is based off the A4 chip and not an Intel Core Duo as in the current version?

Where's the classic going? I didn't watch the stream, but note that all the other iPods have been updated on the Apple Store whereas the Classic remains the same as it was and still available.

i just assume it will be going the way of the buffalo, but i guess it can remain a neglected item that stays in stock.

so, do I have this right ? The new AppleTV is basically the same as the old but without local storage? (so they could shrink it down in size and price)

The iTunes section on both the UK and US apple stores show that version 10 is available but you can on'y download 9.2.1 . Hope this is sorted soon! That's all I was waiting to hear about.

If the cash was in my hand however... Apple TV would be what I'd throw money at without. a. doubt. :p

$99 is not that impressive of a price for what you get.... I mean i can stream netflix and crap from my computer with my ps3 and my xbox.. with my ps3 i still have a hd and i still have a BD player?!

So again 99 isnt that impressive for a hub..
Uh... a PS3 and an XBox are each way more than $99. I don't need those other features, so why would I want to pay for them? Different users, different needs. Compare it instead to other streaming devices and it's very competitively priced. Also think of it more as a merger of the appleTV and the Airport Express which lists for....$99.
