I'll admit I'm a bit annoyed.

In the US the iPhone 4 is $199/$299 on contract, so the iPod touch with all the new iPhone 4 features, minus the obvious calls and contract, is great.

In the UK, we pay £499 for the 16GB iPhone 4 to buy it outright, with iPod touch costing less than £200.

Basically, I have no contract, but I've essentially paid £300 to make phonecalls.

That's tough to swallow.

...and surf the web anywhere, a 5MP still camera (Touch is 1.3MP and even takes less than 1.3MP stills) plus a guaranteed 100% compatible iOS 5 upgrade

What video formats will the new Apple TV stream, will it do AVI and MKV, or just Apple proprietary... anyone know this?

of course not its apple we're talking about ... they only support their stupid file system to push iTunes sales *smart but ass move*

BTW the WD Digital TV is 99 $ and can do by far more than this crappy apple tv thing

honestly, I don't really care about ipod nanos
ipod shuffle, nice new additions!
ipod touch! wow... not bad! Huge upgrade.

overall, the new ipod upgrades doesnt really matter, when you already own an iphone that is....

iOS 4.1 and 4.2 is huge though.....
really nice upgrades... HDR photography and airplay.... wow...

iTunes 10 isn't bad too...
I like the Ping... can't wait till I "like" the artists I like...

Apple TV...
well I hope itunes in HONG KONG will open (for music and TV shows), or else, I can't buy or use it ><

Glad I'm not this guy...

Apple did enough with ATV. I ordered one.

Combination of Netflix plus streaming from computer at $99 with remote is the "enough" part.

TV rentals could be a bonus. Probably won't do many HD Movie rentals as REdbox and Netflix dvds are good enough for me and much cheaper.

If I like I will order 2 more for the other TVs in the house.

You're lucky enough to have an HDTV. :p

I take it you live in a cave.

Sorry that you are living in the stone age of HDTV's

I'm in the same camp. I have an older 50 inch Toshiba 1080i set that doesn't have HDMI. It sucks but apple's not the first to kill off component and they probably had to due to the analog loop hole. :(

Buy a new tv. It is 2010... It is not like HDMI came out in 2009.

I actually have an HDTV with HDCP-DVI connection. It works just fine. I also have a projector with HDMI. I was just noticing the bummer of not being able to hook it up to TV's that can do 1080i (tube TV's) even though I don't have one. :D

Holy whining batman!

I might not ever come back to this ****** whiny ******** site (been here for years even though not many comments).

I think the ATV at $100 is great! I will certainly pick one up immediately. Ability to stream to it, connection with Flickr and Netflix... 99 cent rentals. Are you whiners serious? It's only _$100_....

Glad facetime made it into the iTouch... will help spread its use.

Ping... we'll just have to see over time. I'll probably use it to keep tabs on some of my favorite indie bands. I can't see people making "posts" there instead of Facebook...

Tiny nano... well... it's personally not all that interesting to me.... but it will be great for tweens / teens. For anyone that wants more... that's what the iTouch is for.

Some of you people are just plain crazy.

WHY NO 1080P????????!!!!!!!

Seriously makes no sense. Yes I know iTunes content is not there yet but what about home movies/own content at 1080p and my Blu-ray rips at 1080p.

Is not a big deal for Apple to add that. WDTV and Roku supports that resolution and they are simple.

I guess they really want us to buy the $700 MacMini if I want to use as HTPC.

So tell me again, how the Apple TV can compete with the WD TV HD Live Plus and other devices?

Why does Apple come out with a great design, superb UI, but ruin the functionality?

You guys missed the point about Apple TV. Steve mentioned he wanted to make it easy. Sure, you can use a computer, a laptop, a PS3 or whatever, but for the average Joe, the Apple TV is simple plug and play for renting content... day and date with DVD or Blu-Ray.

The Apple TV is more like a brick and mortar DVD rental store killer. It's easy and fast and does 720p which satisfies most people's taste for HD.

I will be getting one. I will miss the internal hard drive but quite frankly I never really used it that much.

"All rentals, no purchases, so no storage management. "

This is what Hollywood and Apple (and Amazon, and every digital distributor) really wants. They want to move to put an end to physical media, you will permanently "rent" your titles through a closed system instead of buying and downloading. In a few more decades, the industry will be able to say that there is no legal reason for anyone to "own" a copy of a movie or TV show, everyone will simply be streaming their content from an authorized source (which works just as well for ad-supported media, as well).

People worried about not being able to play rented stuff on Apple TV, I just read the page, and airplay allows you to play any content you have on your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch etc.. right to your apple tv, so if you bought a movie from Apple you can stream it to Apple TV from your PC or from your IOS device.

So what about if for example the abc player for ipad can I watch that on my tv with apple tv?

Agreed, That's what I am saying. It's so frustrating.

Don't forget that Netflix streaming to PS3 and Wii is totally retarded because it's not an application that lives on your PS3 or Wii... you have to manually insert the Netflix DVD into those machines and run the software. Completely retarded compared to the cool :apple:tv implementation.

They did that to get around the licensing agreement Netflix had with MS and Xbox.
fter that expires their will be an update and it will be integrated..
