Its obvious Apple is no longer a Computer-centric company. Its all about iOS now.

Almost every product Apple sells has a computer and OS X at its core. iOS is nothing more than an embedded mobile version of OS X. Apple is a computer-centric company, but the definition of what a "computer" is has changed dramatically over the last 5-10 years. Eventually desktop computers will become irrelevant for everyone except content creators. The rest can get what they need with laptops and i-things.

Why do you think Apple changed its name from Apple Computer, Inc. to simply Apple, Inc.? This company is not just about the traditional computer as you define it, but bringing technology to our lives in ways that betters our lives and continues to innovate in an industry that would not do anything new if there were no Apple.

The best part about all of it - for me anyway - is that with every new product or service offering, Apple renders Microsoft more and more irrelevant. In terms of total iOS market share (not just smart phones), it murders Android. Remember that all of the Android numbers are just for smart phones, but Apple has a total installed base of over 200 million iOS devices. That is a significant number, and something Android will spend years catching up with. That's quite a customer base for application developers.

Think I will only get a Shuffle.

The price tier they set is a bit embarrassing for the Nano. So much more expensive than the Shuffle, but yet so close to the Touch. Would have been better if it priced at $129 and $149.

So tell me again, how the Apple TV can compete with the WD TV HD Live Plus and other devices?

Why does Apple come out with a great design, superb UI, but ruin the functionality?

They are a design company more than tech, it would seem. Smaller and more minimalist naturally means a reduction in features of high quality; that's the universal truth for almost all applications of minimalist styling.

satisfying the subscription fans

it seems to me having netflix on there satisfies all the people who like subscription models. I haven't used netflix in years, but seems to me to be great to have access to all these films for one monthly fee. i may go back and take a 2nd look at netflix. Also netflix rents out tv shows on DVD. i'm assuming these shows are or will be available streaming. i just hope the quality is good

Hey guys, 960x720 is 0.69 MP. Where are you getting the 1.3 MP figure from?

Technically, if you want to get all mathy about it.

But obviously this is more of a video-optimized CCD - as far as stills go we'll just have to wait and see how the quality is - I'm just kind of down that it seemingly didn't get anywhere near an iphone-level camera.

1, they either want you to buy the the next edition, which may have those options, or 2, the more likely option, they don't care about what makes sense, they live in a world of magical creations...

the new, less function, apple tv! ta-da!

Apple TV needs:
1080p
Way to subscribe to shows, not rent each separately
More shows to rent from more networks

and then it would be worth it...

hmmm u will convert them ... why dont u just get a different box where u can just play them the way they were downloaded o_O

the reviews for the WD live tv plus interface arnt that great, PLUS my wife and I both have iPhones, that will be great to stream from.

Depends on how you define "functionality". I (and 99.99999 % of "normal" consumers") could give a rats ass about the audio codecs it supports. If it's easy to hookup... easy to run... easy (and cheap) to watch a show with good quality video and audio... then they've satisfied the market.

You have to realize that what uber-geeks want / need is COMPLETELY different from most consumers.

The new ATV will sell orders of magnitude more than your "functional" WDTV...

the biggest fail is still the iPod Nano they got rid of

Video
Camera
Bigger Screen

just to squeeze it in size (whats the point? the nano was tiny enough and if u really needed a micro device u could have got the shuffle) o_O

and the price ... 159 € for the 8 GB iPod Nano, this equals to about 200$

iTunes download page now says, "iTunes 10 coming soon, Download 9 Now"
Guess the NC Server Farm is not up and running yet:D

Ok I don't understand. People are saying the iPod touch can't take still pictures but on the apple website, it shows that it does. People are saying the rear camera is 1.3 mp. But it takes 720 videos. Can someone explain

The megapixel resolution needed in a camera to achieve 720p video is approximately 0.9 megapixels.....

1080p is only 2.1 megapixels.

How come so many people in this thread don't know that HDMI transmits both audio and video?

because they have only seen a usb, minidisplay, and a power cord before..

..so when they cross an hdmi port they get understandably confused :)
