Where were you during the 3GS keynote? You know Steve Jobs was behind that, right? Apple's tick-tock strategy is straight out of his playbook.

Things are relative. Compared to the competition, Apple was seen as innovating. Now it shows them as cutting corners and purely focused on profit. Like an accountant would think. I'm talking about the 5C, not the 5S.

Nobody needs 128GB when you can subscribe to iCloud and iTunes Match. I was bang on with my predictions. There's nothing to be disappointed about here.

Sure, because in just over 5 years my 1GB data plan will let me stream that data. Assuming I don't use it for anything else.

Think games. Think AirPlay. Think big screens. Now imagine your iPhone as a controller.

Also, remember universal apps; there may not be anything to warrant that kind of power yet, but give developers a chance, they'll find a way!

Now imagine playing an Xbox One or PS4 for less money with a proper controller and a gaming experiencing a poxy iPhone can only ever dream off.. ;)

Now imagine your iPhone as a controller.

that might be the worst thing I can imagine. Touch screen suck as controllers - I need hard buttons.

----------

I fail to detect these 'sharp' edges you refer to.

the edges on the 5 are certainly sharper and harder than any other iPhone. Compare to the 3/3GS for instance. I have mine in a case now so it's fine, but it's definitely hard edged without a case.

Embrace it in their lives?

It's an entirely new piece of hardware designed to save you the 1-1.3 seconds it takes to type a 4 digit pin number.

That's the very definition of solving something that isn't a problem.

Yes. In my life. Thanks, I'll still take the fingerprint sensor. And the great thing about choice is, you don't have to.

But I would very much like to save 1-1.3 seconds, multiplied many many times.

I'm sticking with my 4S for another upgrade cycle.

It was a pretty underwhelming keynote. The substantial part (as opposed to the fluff music at the end) was at least 30 minutes shorter than usual.

Than get up on stage and see if you can do better.

It's funny how people here seem to think that there's no innovation if you aren't surprised. I couldn't care less about surprises. I don't even like surprises, honestly. That's why I'm regularly browsing this website. Strange, I know.

Hmm first impression of the Touch ID are not very good, I can enter my passcode just as quick and it doesn't seem to be accurate either:

http://youtu.be/9-ppMRFcDWk

Also the new shutter button just looks plain daft and odd placed above the new home button.

How did you get that it was not accurate from the video?
It looks like if you press it all the way down it will engage Siri; but it appeared to take about half a second to unlock when just resting the finger.
I don't think I could enter my passcode that quickly. Plus I wouldn't have to look at the phone to unlock it.

And the shutter button, are you referring to the red button on the screen? It's the same location as the current camera app. Just red.

*edit*

Plus, you don't have to hide your screen when unlocking it in a public setting.

Will the fingerprint sensor reduce thefts? I think they probably will--at least there will be fewer opportunistic "snatch-and-run" thefts.

But I also fear that some ruthless thieves who would otherwise just "snatch and run" will instead force their victims to shut off the fingerprint sensor at gunpoint.
Takes too much time unless in a private situation. I do see thieves fingerprints along with pictures being captured.

well... the s4 e.g. isnt that bad to told in one hand. its about time to do bring out a significant larger display...

The HTC One has proven that you can actually have both.

Keep in mind, it's not just about being able to hold it in one hand.

It's about being able to securely hold it in that hand and type in URLs, text messages, emails, etc, with one thumb (without having to do an awkward stretch that is both uncomfortable and compromises the secure grip you have on the phone). The number of times I'm out doing things and holding something on one hand (eg. drink, stuff I've bought, kid's hand, etc) while doing something with my phone in the other is huge. There is no way I want a screen to erode my ability to do that comfortably and securely.

No surprise, The Verge is very Pro-Apple. It's great for Apple and their followers.

Not so great for those looking for fair & neutral reporting. Yet that's a dying art anyway. Too much money involved.

The Verge is pro-Apple? In what universe exactly? The Verge has become more and more anti-Apple over the past year or so. That's why I was surprised they actually said something nice about the 5C.

If you're flush with cash, that's correct.

If you're already considering a smartphone, you're already "flush with cash."

Over 2 years most people will be paying $2500-$3300 for their phones, depending on plan.

----------

How, on a device with less memory than would be able to make use of 64-bit addressing?

One step closer to Apple making their own chips for Macs....

I said it before - but I'll say it again. The 5C enables Apple to cater to those that want a cheaper iPhone and also have some variety in colors - something competitive to other phones in the market. They can do this WITHOUT "blemishing" their flagship phone.

They have basically divided their product offerings. It's no longer old/new. It's "Flagship" and "Budget"

Except the "budget" is exactly the same price as today's "flagship,"

It takes a few goes for that guy to make the fingerprint scanner work, the shutter button looks out of place and not the red one, it is a white button above a white button and it looks very odd IMO.
Also it takes more than 0.5 seconds for that scanner to unlock the device and yes I can enter my passcode in that time.

The competition isn't innovating either. Samsung throws hundreds of cheap gimmicks at the wall, hoping one of them will stick. Everyone is trying to replicate that heady time when smartphones were introducing amazing new features every year, but the fact is we've reached the point where there isn't much to do but improve each year iteratively. Given that situation, it makes perfect sense to begin diversifying the line into higher and lower end models (a la iPhone 5s and 5c). I don't think they're doing anything that Jobs wouldn't have done himself.

again, it's not necessarily about speed, though it's probably speedier in most cases - it's about security.

Why did you say again? Are you the same person with multiple accounts? And if you read the other persons comments he implied about the speed hence my reply. And I think you'll find people will get annoyed if their £700 phone takes longer to unlock using a finger.
