I think they are really pushing the media creation thing a bit much. The iPad as it stand now will never replace me sitting in front of my iMac instead of on my couch with my iPad.

"So, GarageBand for iPad. This is no toy. You can use this for real work. I cannot tell you how many hours teenagers are going to spend making music with this."

lol

No Toy?

Real Work

Teenagers?

Real Work and teenagers? :S

Reading these comments is just ****ing depressing. So much whining, bitching, and complaining, you're all 'unimpressed' as if Apple owes you something, and you purposely set your expectations so ridiculously high that there is no way Apple can match them without pulling off a few miracles. I'm so ****ing glad you people have basically nil effect on Apple's success, because your expectations and opinions are just downright absurd. Most rumors going in to this event was that the iPad 2 would be a 'spec bump'. This is much, much more than that, and they've shown off some **** that I never expected, especially with the new fleshed out apps, the ridiculous thinness, the innovative case, etc etc. Don't buy the ****ing thing, but don't act as if Apple has raped your family. NO reasonable person was expecting a retina display this soon, it just flies in the face of technical/engineering/financial viability at this point, and yes Apple is giving us 'outdated tech' because of this.

Grow the **** up, all of you.

so what's the price for ipad 1 now?

is 3g personal hotspot over iphone free?

Oh boo hoo. I've been in marketing for over 20 years and of course I would play it the same way. That doesn't make it any less lame here.

Overall I'm unimpressed. A nice device for those without the iPad. But for those with - nothing all too exciting for an upgrade.

iPad 3 perhaps.

I agree. Marketing by misrepresenting or omitting certain facts is lame. Even if Apple does it.

How is the lack of LTE a good thing?

LTE at the moment is just a marketing scheme, the networks aren't developed enough you will be bouncing down to a 3G connection in most cases. Apple is smart in waiting because it's not a deal breaker and it keeps their margins down. The competition on the other hand is looking to all the specs that can make them look competitive.

I'd like to congratulate Apple on spanking Motorola, on the xoom launch.

You may disagree, but the ipad's software selection means it is a lot better to use.

My only disappointment is that Apple did not increase storage on iPads. $499 should be 32gig and so on. Besides that everything else looks good.

Unless you are using it out and about I don't see a big issue... with home sharing you have access to everything on your computer without syncing...

Oh you grow up.

Who says anyone of us are underwhelmed for the reasons you list or have that attitude.

I'm underwhelmed because as a current iPad owner - the "2" isn't much of a reason to upgrade.

If you're new to the iPad - I think the "2" is a great device.

FaceTime

I've used it maybe three times on my iPhone 4. I barely make calls on the thing, now on the iPad? I'm tired of all the "fashionista's" talking loudly with FaceTime at every Starbucks or corner coffeehouse, do I really need to hear AND see your entire conversation in public? Now the iPad will make it even better for us! WOW, can't WAIT to see some schmuck holding their jailbroken iPad in a FaceTime 3G conference or using it for "augmented" reality cause it's "cool" trip and fall into a water fountain. And people are "underwhelmed", any wonder why we're failing other first world nations in education, cause we're too "cool for skool"...

Ugh.

iPad 3 will actually be called the iPad 2, but be at a higher price point and (obv.) with Retina display.

You heard it here first, folks.

When new applications come out taking advantage of the ipad2s hardware that either don't run or run poorly on ipad1 people will upgrade. Just think if a new version of Angry Birds came out only able to work on ipad2. People would riot in the streets.

Yeah but it doesn't hide the fact that Apple refuses to represent the real reason why the Xoom is more expensive. The fact that it technically is a better unit.

So this is APPLE'S summary of the iPad 2:

"So iPad 2 -- amazing product.

Faster, lighter, thinner.
Cameras and gyro.

iOS 4.3 and FaceTime.
iMovie and GaragrBand.
3G on AT&T and Verizon.
Same battery life.
Same prices.
Black and white.
Smart Covers"

Only the first 2 have anything to do with the iPad hardware that has actually changed. The biggest thing is faster, which is good, but not enough for a version 2 update. Maybe there WILL be an iPad 3 in 2011.
