Bloody good show by Apple.

So this is APPLE'S summary of the iPad 2:

"So iPad 2 -- amazing product.

Faster, lighter, thinner.
Cameras and gyro.

iOS 4.3 and FaceTime.
iMovie and GaragrBand.
3G on AT&T and Verizon.
Same battery life.
Same prices.
Black and white.
Smart Covers"

Only the first 2 have anything to do with the iPad hardware that has actually changed.

Tony

To me Apple being able to make only 2 HW improvements should be a concern to Apple long term. Other makers (copycat or not) are trying to get into the same market and some of the makers produce the exact same parts Apple needs also. Obviously the components makers can NOT intentionally withhold parts from Apple, BUT they can still use the components in the products THEY make and sell.

So the "Personal Hotspot" is for Iphone 4 users, right? So I don't have to jailbreak my phone which I was about to do soon. Just want to confirm this! Also, do you think they will charge extra? I have an Iphone 4 and just recently bought a MBP and always wanted internet on my MBP while on the go.

same question here. i already have unlimited texts and whatnot, will i have to pay extra?

damn, i was really hoping for a preorder today. why would they be changing the apple store online then if we can't preorder it even yet?

and no "one last thing"?????

may be underwhelming for those with an ipad, but i don't have one and i'm pretty excited.

sucks to see no type of mobileme update.

also dual cores are awesome when you have an os thats optimized for it. ios5 can't come soon enough.

Then you had unrealistic expectations. Sorry but the only thing they didn't do which was even remotely possible was the Retina display and that was always going to be unlikely. Not just for cost reasons but manufacturing and CPU / GPU requirements as well. Next year yes, I'd agree if they don't do it then it'd be a problem but this year they're about spot on.

Its not just the the display... the software is the same.. which is ironically is what needs the most help in my eyes.

I hate how people are just satisfied with eveything apple puts out.

"Who needs LTE"
"Who needs HDMI"
"My Ipad is fast enough"
"Multitasking is great is saves battery life"
"Apple loves me"

All these dumb talking point that apple workshipper spit out in order to justify that they are paying a premium for last years tech.

Then they always have the nerve to spit on other competition without any real facts... or a bunch of spin on the truth.

Why shouldnt we expect more from apple??

That was one disappointing product announcement. Basically everything that the rumors site said it would be and nothing more: thinner, faster, lighter, cameras. Yawn, time to start speculating on iPad 3 and how it may be a worthy upgrade.

Kinda disappointed that there was no news on iOS 5.

That'll come next month at an SDK preview event like every year. No surprise on MobileMe either since there was no scheduled downtime for MobileMe today. WWDC should be interesting.

Lame, I was waiting for some MobileMe or iOS 5 news :(

BTW iPad 2 seems like a good update but I still can't see any reason for my to buy it. Macbook pro is still a better device.

And that domainance would not be predicated on apples hardware and software implementation and how it fairs against the competition.

Mindshare everyone, Mindshare.

Judging from past experience, I'd say specs aside the Apple product will still outperform the Xoom in day to day use. Don't get me wrong and I"m sorry if I come off like a fan boy. We have both platforms in my home and I've yet to have major trouble with iOS. Android however is another story entirely. So my point is you can have all the specs and raw power in the world but if it doesn't integrate in an elegant, easy to use way the public will not buy it. Tinkerers only make up a very small percentage of the market. Most people just want to open a box and zoom off in to the sunset. They just don't have the no-how nor do they have the need for so much raw power with when they'll have to be forced to find their own tires to keep that power on the ground.

Christ, the Aussie iPad1 is now from $449.

Something tells me the inventory is going to clear out super, super quick.
