Who cares about the iPad, they could have released a shiny dog turd today for all I care all that matters to me is that Steve is back and looking better than he has done in a long time.

The Android and Windows fanboys in the media who have been having a Steve death watch are looking foolish right now, Steve is back and better than ever :D:D

His last leave of absence was 6 months this was 6 weeks, he is fine

Did anyone notice that they did not talk about the new multitouch gestures? I guess they decided to take it out??

And just to rant... I don't think current owners of iOS 4.3 compatible devices should have to wait until new customers (those who purchase the iPad 2 on March 11th) can benefit from the new features.

Hopefully the iPad 3 will enjoy a retina display. This is a logical progression but I would really liked to have seen the retina display.

I'm sure Apple are working on it.

Wow. No MobileMe announcement.

MobileME was pulled from resellers as a business/financial decision. When you buy it straight from Apple then Apple gets the full $99. They probably sold the boxes to resellers for about $69.

Disappointed by the lack of anything but iPad, was hoping for MobileMe at least.

The only positive really coming out of this event for me is that Jobs doesn't appear to be on death's door, as rumoured.

Its not just the the display... the software is the same.. which is ironically is what needs the most help in my eyes.

I hate how people are just satisfied with eveything apple puts out.

"Who needs LTE"
"Who needs HDMI"
"My Ipad is fast enough"
"Multitasking is great is saves battery life"
"Apple loves me"

All these dumb talking point that apple workshipper spit out in order to justify that they are paying a premium for last years tech.

Then they always have the nerve to spit on other competition without any real facts... or a bunch of spin on the truth.

Why shouldnt we expect more from apple??

Totally agree with you. If they just released the same iPad 1 in White people would be all worked up over it these days about how cool that is. I can't believe they are so brainwashed. It's not wrong to expect more these days.

Oh oh! The "one more thing..." blues

Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth begin!

No "one more thing..." at todays event. Watch the negative votes fly in.

A solid update to iPad, I think. Which, after all, was what the point of todays event was all about.

And the usual Apple updated spec for the same money.

That'll come next month at an SDK preview event like every year. No surprise on MobileMe either since there was no scheduled downtime for MobileMe today. WWDC should be interesting.

Yeah I know but that feels like it's so far away. I was hoping for a little something now. Oh well.

OK.. so i'm assuming we can't order one until the 11th then?

I'm on the store, but see they aren't available.

I was hoping we could pre-order and then they'd ship on 3/11 :(

Really? What about the hardware beats out the Xoom is ANY way. Maybe the thinness, but I can't think of anything else.

Tony

The price point of the hardware for one. The performance boost is more than enough that coupled with the library availability it will steer many who were on the fence to forget about the xoom. I would bet that by the end of the year sale of the new ipad will be at least 3x-4x that of the xoom.

Nice hardware (cpu+gpu) - rest is rubbish as before...

Too big

Too heavy

No Flash support

Outdated OS (compared to Android 3.0 and even RIM)

Crazy aspect ratio

All in all - good, but nowhere near good enough to make me even think of buying it.

Worth it to order on March 11 and get it shopped to my house or take the chance of getting it at the apple store @ 5pm on a Friday? Therefore, I probably would have to take a day off work and stand in line all day?

Yeah but it doesn't hide the fact that Apple refuses to represent the real reason why the Xoom is more expensive. The fact that it technically is a better unit.

Having spent an hour with it at a local best buy, I was less than impressed. It's thicker and less than evenly balanced in hand. The UI is not intuitve. The hardware stuttered NUMEROUS times. The screen did feel like it would give under heavy tap with a bounce in the screen where the iPad always feels solid.

With the iPad2 updates, it doesn't technically do anything more or have any better features than the iPad2 (dual core, camera, hdmi), so why would I pay more for less of a device?

I have to admire the way Apple expert marketing techniques can make a minor update like this seem like the the greatest thing on earth. Really, I'm in awe of their marketing. It certainly works on this forum.

It's a good upgrade. I'm surprised they aren't accepting online orders until next Friday, the day the models go on sale at the stores. I guess they want people going to the stores over the weekend.

Nobody's acting like this is the greatest thing on Earth.
