Does anyone know how much RAM this will have? Strange how they don't specify on their website...

Indeed, imagine if they still use 215 mb whilst android tablets out before have 1GB. Pretty disgraceful, when you think about the other things combined making the hardware lagging behind Xoom, galaxy tab (in some aspects).

AND, still the aluminium back, which dents, scratches easily. And those cheap nasty plastic power volume buttons.

Everyone seems to have missed the biggie.

New AirPlay.

Apps streamed now.

Apple just challenged consoles HARD and no one has noticed yet.

My iPhone controller will be able to control apps on my iPad, my Mac, or my Apple TV.

Wow.

Wooow.

How did you miss this? This is HUGE.

They missed it because to them, none of it matters. They only care about tech specs...and in most cases not actual tech specs...just proposed specs of the competition. They're very, very boring individuals.

Nice hardware (cpu+gpu) - rest is rubbish as before...

Too big

Too heavy

No Flash support

Outdated OS (compared to Android 3.0 and even RIM)

Crazy aspect ratio

All in all - good, but nowhere near good enough to make me even think of buying it.

What is the perfect size/weight for a tablet?

It should mollify MacBook Air users mad about losing the Apple Remote capability.

Loving the iTunes Home Sharing improvements ... entire library, video included, available on the iDevices :D

Making the 8gb Touch 4g shine! :p

Love it when people say honeycomb tablets are crap cos of no apps and iPad has 65000 apps.

I have like 20 apps installed on my iPad and only ever use around 3 non apple apps.

I mainly use mail and safari.

Very happy about the safari update mind, and airplay.

Xoom is crap its just another iPad wannabe like all the others. We wont see retina display sadly, because why would apple lay all their cards on the table when the competition hasnt even caught up with the first gen ipad? just like the 3gs not getting a front camera... simply because they didnt have to yet so they save it for the next gen model.

Innovation comes from pushing the boundaries, not holding back because no one else has caught up yet.

More likely it's that AT&T is the only network that uses those 3GSM frequencies in the US. I'm guessing it will work in Europe with a local microsim like the last one.

Thanks for clearing that up - I'm in the US for the next few months but would like to be able to bring the iPad back home with me after my stay here ends.

The US iPhone 4 was locked to AT&T, right?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

So nothing with mobileme! :(

My mom is going to wet herself when I give her one of these. She's still bugging me for an iPod Touch, her only complaint of which is the display being too small.

Question: With the HDMI out, does iPad 2 render Apple TV redundant?

Great piece of hardware with an OS that is not at all compelling. IOS works great on the iPhone. On the iPad it's severely lacking, which is why I sold my iPad.

And no matter what the fanboys say, the lack of Flash is a detriment. Period.

Why, oh WHY! I have to upgrade the OS just to sync my new iPad? Of note, the windows version will work with Windows XP. Grrr. Of course, I'll still get one. =-) But now have to decide on whether to upgrade the OS, or get a new computer. Ugh.

Considering that Apple's current OS is 10.6.6, supporting 10.5.8 isn't that bad. If you notice, Microsoft is phasing out XP support. IE 9 requires Vista or 7.

More RAM is not a given. A lot of people said the same with the iPod Touch 4th gen. They were wrong.

Unless you see the amount of RAM printed on Apple's site, you will have to wait until someone does a tear down of this new device.

Personally, I think that the iPad2 will have 512MB of RAM. If it has 1GB, then I will probably get one.

I did not by an IPad as I always wait till the technology has been proven and the initial bugs worked out. Plus, I wanted camera's on it. So, I am very pleased with the IPad 2 announcement. It has everything I wanted in the initial IPad, and more, and at the same price. Well done APPLE!!!!

Same here. Really I just want to be able to skype with this thing, so now I can. The fast processor and being thinner are just a nice bonus. Retina display is really uneeded IMHO. If you want it, great but expect to pay for this in both money and battery life.

Useless without software. It has, what? a handful of tablet apps? The iPad has a ton already plus iMove and Garageband coming out day 1 of the iPad 2 release.

Just saying. iPad has the whole package. Xoom just focuses on it's specs and nothing else. Pointless.

Its just like the ipad was when first out. It takes time for the apps to be made. You can run old Android apps on it too like the ipad.

The "toy" image won't go away because Apple really is pushing towards that demographic. Look at how much they focus on apps like Garageband and iMove, all the games etc, yet don't give us any info on VPN, Document Viewing, and things corp. would use. Thats why the Xoom and other will succeed because businesses will buy them in bulk. I know for us we have iPad users moving to Android based devices due to these concerns.

Yes, the iPhone is hard SIM-locked here. Apple won't release unlock codes on them. The iPad 1 was different. It wasn't SIM-locked, but it used the uncommon micro-sim.

When a company doesn't officially announce something, I expect the lower/worse spec. Same with apple. No major boost to RAM i think.

If people knew what they were talking about, they would know that Android apps SCALE nicely to fit the resolution of the xoom. Unlike when I had my iPad I had to look at a tiny screen for apps that werent optimized at launch...
